today, a twitch streamer by the name of puppers passed away. he was well-known in the dead by daylight community as one of the friendliest, comfiest guys out there. he made no enemies, only friends. his amazing community was always growing, and he'd peak at a thousand viewers each stream. and then in early 2020, he suffered a stroke. it turns out he had terminal ALS. for the next 3 years, he suffered. he would regularly vent his frustrations and pain on twitter, which was just heartbreaking. he slowly lost the ability to do the things we all take for granted: walking, talking, moving, eating, drinking, and at the end of may 2023... breathing. he spent a short time on a ventilator, but he'd already fought his fight. he chose to be taken off the ventilator for his last days. he finally succumbed to his disease earlier today. as someone who had been keeping an eye on his situation, it's devastating that the day we all dreaded finally came. so why am i writing this? well, being an autistic person is very interesting when it comes to emotions. i often find myself unable to properly grieve as my brain responds weirdly to things like death and loss. yet, i find music like this, and it helps me ground myself. when i heard 3:46, i was finally able to shed the tears that i'd been bottling up. thank you.
My friend died yesterday. 32 years too young. Goodbye my friend George. May your soul have Godspeed back to your home in the sky. Love you and we will meet again
I sobbed hysterically the first like ten times I heard this song, makes me think about my ex who committed suicide. Right in the feels. Thank all of you for existing and bringing this beautiful noise into the world.
Bro what the hell !!!! My ex committed suicide too She was the person I thought when I listen to this song, even though our relationship turned into a disaster, I still love her and would have enjoyed a friendship. After we broke I never saw her again. I found out 3 year from the time she had committed suicide which left in limbo mentally
I love it, Mile zero has less complex meaning compared to the overarching storyline of Alpha and Omega. And yet this song is just as powerful simply because the passing of a friend is something that hits so close for so many people.
After at least 3 hours of listening to this album front to back, my mind is absolutely blown. This song really tied it all together for me. I really loved the back stories the band wrote in the about section for each song and I think Mark explained it perfectly on this one. It's hard to explain but after listening to this song, which is one of my favorites from the album, I feel like I've evolved or something. I can't say I've ever felt this way after listening to an album and I've listened to A LOT of music. I've been a fan of the band since the beginning and I've always been very impressed but this album took it to another level. These guys are very special musicians. This is the stuff of legends. Even though some of the songs didn't move me emotionally, somehow I felt very motivated to continue listening. This album demanded my attention and even when it left me confused, overwhelmed, and uncomfortable I still was drawn in like a magnet and now I feel enlightened, humbled and peaceful. The last few hours have been an epic journey that I will never forget. Thank you Periphery!
WonderGhost i totally agree, i love periphery and everything they do but this is the only album that has really spoken to me on a musical and personal level
It starts as one festering feeling The kind that cuts from the flesh down to the soul No way to make amends for the time behind the door Street lights feed lies straight to the mind of the wishful wanderer How could he give up? No second chances to say goodbye. Wrapped in this cold, nostalgic energy from the cries of the ones who are Buried Ascend beyond. Life is ruthless and shot full of pain. It lifts you up, leaves you out in the rain, And it hurts just to know that you're not coming back again. I will miss you my friend Memories like a slug to the brain Paint the walls with a love that will stain the darkest of nights You left to join the stars and I cannot shake this off my chest. In death we grieve until all have transcended from this realm In time we will meet again. Suddenly I can feel the connection between dimension ties Open gut on the floor. Trembling down to the core. What is this? It's been a long ride without you I'm lost inside my own world. There's not a single day where I've feigned the acceptance, But it's a somber stroll down this road that we call life. The silence still is crawling out of my sedated sight. How can I be free? Wrapped in this cold, nostalgic energy from the cries of the ones who are Buried Ascend beyond. Life is ruthless and shot full of pain. It lifts you up, leaves you out in the rain, And it hurts just to know that you're not coming back again. I will miss you my friend Memories like a slug to the brain Paint the walls with a love that will stain the darkest of nights Left to journey alone, but I can find my way back home
Being a guitarist, I want to love periphery as much as I do for the guitarist. Mark, Misha, and Jake are great. Technically gifted but don't allow the technicality to overtake the musicality, which is key. However...What makes this band so amazing to me is Spencer. Such a vocally gifted man. What sold it for me was seeing them live. First time I've heard a vocalist sound so great live and on a record. Keep it up Periphery :)
this song is so deep especially this when Spencer starts singing/screaming this part " Life is ruthless and shot full of pain, It lifts you up, leaves you out in the rain, and it hurts just to know that you're not coming back again. I will miss you my friend! Memories like a slug to the brain, paint the walls that with a love that will stain the darkest of nights! You left to join with the stars and I cannot shake this off my chest."
This band has changed my life...and to think that half a year ago, I wasn't really a fan of these guys, mainly due to the fact scream vocals put me off a tad since I wasn't used to it, though I always did appreciate the musicianship of these djentlemen. Now they're my favourite band. Strange how things turn out, huh
Same thing happened to me, I used to despise this band, but they inspired me to change my life, and now I ended up with a tattoo of their lyrics, including their logo. Definitely interesting how things turn out!
Im gonna try to push my band Proliferation to do it when we finally finish a full length album! (Which will be the next thing we do) so yeah youre right more artists should do this thats why I want to contribute to it lol
Hands down in my top five favorite periphery solos ever. that one particular hits me in the feels. I think Jake has the best solos but that's just my opinion
Extremely personal song for Spencer. (You can hear him throwing his headphones on the ground at the end) My favorite song from Periphery by far. Both musically and lyrically.
Haha holy crap thanks for clearing that up. But C'MON how could this NOT be a personal song for Spence, just listen to how he sings that fucking chorus! What a real, raw sound!
Yeah, I don't think the mic will capture the headphone drop. More like an on purpose effect which in this case, a bullet drop. Maybe his friend joined the army, presumably.
@@ottonilsson3942 he's my older brother whom I dedicated this song too. He's the one that introduced me to periphery and he passed away October of 2019.

I don't think I've ever felt more feeling come from a song both lyrically and instrumentally than in this song. Truly amazing and inspiring. One of the best songs on the album in my opinion.
On top of being somber, this song is completely empowering. Its like one of those things that make you want to smile through tears. This song is absolutely amazing in every way.
10 years ago My friend and I worked 3rd shift and he had this CD in his car for months and this was always my favorite, I'll always thinking of riding home at 4am when I hear it.
Heard the original version idea for this song for first time on your soundclick(still my favorite) and hoped dearly that you would consider turning it into a full fledged song. Thank you for that Misha! Thank you..
Brendon stacey Not really. Mark wrote the intro and the after-intro riff, not sure about the chorus, but the rest were Misha's. There's an old demo by Misha, try look it up :)
Ahhhh... years ago I declared this one the best song I ever heard... I mean just listen the way that the rhythms enhance the melody and how the melody flows. I love the emotional weight and the way the song progresses it's very unique with the key changes after the first chorus it feels like the song is turning upside down and falling apart just to reassemble in the last possible second to take us to one of the greatest solos ever. It's like reading a novel when you finally hit the climax of the story and you be like "jesus what is going on!? this is GREAT!". It's taking me from the first to the last second and leaves me in awe even after so many times of listening. Absolutely inspiring stuff!
i listen to this song not being i had someone close pass away but for a friend that i thought would be by my side for the rest of my life, we both shared a love for periphery and even went to see them in Manchester a few years ago, i will miss you my friend.
His vocal range is insane! Not only that this band is very creative with their riffs and beats I cant get enough. Thank you for your efforts periphery, you are appreciated

Because the vocals are relatively prominent in the mix, I never fully appreciated how intricate and beautiful the first riff is (the "It starts as one festering feeling..." riff). Check out Mrak's GuitarWorld lesson on it!
I don't know if it's just a musician thing, but I absolutely love stories about the writing process and how songs come together over time. If you ask me, these kinds of series should be common practice for anyone who puts out a good album.

Such a good song. I’m starting to find almost every song on this album great. So far it’s: have a blast, froggin’ bullfish, mile zero, the gods must have gone crazy, masamune, ragnarok, maramasa, Erised, Epoch, and scarlet that are my favourites.
I love Spencer. He really inspires me as his voice was decent before, but he put in the work and now it's amazing. I love this song acoustic too...maybe ill try to cover it...

Such a good song. I’m starting to find almost every song on this album great. So far it’s: have a blast, froggin’ bullfish, mile zero, the gods must have gone crazy, masamune, ragnarok, maramasa, Erised, Epoch, and scarlet that are my favourites.
Ah remembering hearing this album for the first time when I was in highschool. The nostalgia is real.
King, Masterpiece, Fuking Brilliant.... Genius n Ingenious
I love Spencer. He really inspires me as his voice was decent before, but he put in the work and now it's amazing. I love this song acoustic too...maybe ill try to cover it...
Shawn Bennett must have been an awesome dude, enough to have a six minute kickass eulogy written for him.
3:50 the pinch harmonic is fickin amazing!!!!
this song is audio coke
this song makes me absolutely love spencer as a vocalist
Definitely. Wes Haunch adds so much, in my opinion. I'm not saying that Periphery weren't already amazing, though.
This song takes you on a journey. Best since 2014
Wes, your solo was exquisite
