To be able to adjust the screen in AV, do the following: - Hook up a device to Scart port 2. - Go to tv mode and enter the menu from there (the regular one, not the service menu). - Go to the "Sockets" section, and set AV2 as "Decoder". - Also set Decoder option to "yes" or "on" (whatever it is). Now the device you have hooked up will show its picture in tv mode. You can go to the service menu and make your adjustments.
Do that work with a MX7000 v 2.0 as well? I'm asking because when I hook up a device to Scart port 2 and set AV2 as "Decoder" I got no picture at all... And that feature you are talking about at 06:46, it doesn't happened anything when I try it as you explain. Do I have to have a MX7000 version earlier than 2.0?
Does this work for the MX3500? On mine, the only RGB-capable port is AV1, but i'm not able to adjust anything but the brightness ("brilliance") and contrast, but the colors look very washed out. Should I still plug something in scart port 2 and adjust it from there?
So once you go to TV mode, go to channel 7, my 240p displays perfectly to adjust 🤩 well not really. I can kinda see the shape but then flicking it back and closing it is easier

Most of the time this can be fixed and there are how to guides on the net. Saying that, I have a perfect working MX4000 but the MX7000 was purchased faulty and I paid a small fortune to get it fixed. Sounds like an awesome set. Many would say the WEGA CRT screens were the best tubes ever made. I would probably agree. Shame they didn't max out and fit them into a really thin casing like this one.
Interesting comments - yeah CRT picture quality is really sharp. I am also impressed by arcade CRT monitors running at high res, superb smooth graphic on Naomi games for example. At the time I was blown away.
OK, we can get that sorted I'm sure. Can you get the TV into TV mode and press MENU, 1, 1, GO, and does that bring up the serial number etc>? If so, you are there. If not, I don't know why: the MX7000 was released over a few years and I'm sure all models could enter service mode via the remote. There are also two pin terminals on the back panel, if you temporarily connect them via a wire (low voltage, don't worry!) it will automatically go into service mode, and you can make the adjustment.
After seeing this i went on Ebay and got an MX7000 for £41 (hope that's a good price). Looks an awesome TV - Can't wait to see it handle my retro collection.
Finally got the replacement remote, Got to say i was blown away by the picture on this TV, it just has a slight left-shift of the image. Cant seem to be able to get into the service mode to correct it though.
Finally got into the service mode via Faginrs500's modification. and was able to centre the image. the aftermarket remote works perfectly (i think the firmware in my set is optimised for the beolink 1000 anyway(ver 1.1 if anyone needs to know)). i ran my dreamcast through it last night and i'm blown away by the picture and sound quality of this Behemoth. I thank you for inspiring me to get one.
I just scored myself an ME 6000. = Winning. My ideal goal is an RGB/SCART switch and all my consoles tapped into that. Reason being is that SCART is versatile for composite video, s-video, and component video capabilities if I really need to use them (with adapters or special cables). Saves me changing channels all the time and remembering what's plugged in where, keeps it very simple and organised.
V-AUX is the name of the "device" which you need to select for the AV-1 RGB socket, I also sent another reply below. For Saturn you won't need the de-interlace function so I don't think you will suffer much. Very few of these TVs come with Beo4 working remote anyway so if you think you are getting a good deal, go for it and good luck.
Nice bit of kit there Matt, wouldn't mind one of those in my game room. Shame I haven't got the space. Stick with my scaler and LCD or the pokey Philips CM8833 or the PC CRT monitor I've acquired. Maybe one day I'll build an extension ;)
Thanks for your help! I figured out too late that it wouldn't work so I opened the back of the tv and found the spot to wire, it was easy to find cause there's "Service mode" written just below. Anyway it worked perfectly so I'll have to sell my beo4 when I'll receive it :)
Very cool CRT TV. I recently picked up a 27" Sanyo DS27820 for cheap so I could have a proper CRT for all my older consoles. Playstation 1, 2 and Sega Dreamcast games look amazing with S-Video! And the zero lag is great for Street Fighter and other timing critical games. Will definitely grab an S-Video cable for my Sega Saturn as well!
I picked up one of these bad boys last night... red MX7000. Style is absolutely stunning, love it. And it's not to bad in terms of size out the back, my 20" Sony Trinitron takes up more space. I only got to try it for about 30 mins last night so looking forward to later on! The sound is awesome too. Good video as well, will be going through the options tonight.
For anyone wondering, as I was... once you take the high contrast glass off this TV light guns work great!!! No chance its going back on tho, I damaged the mounts that hold it on, and cant even work out how to get them off! Aesthetically the TV is not as pleasing but it's way brighter and plays awesome.
you will be able to set up the input as mentioned in this video, but actually selecting V-AUX requires use of the LIST function on the remote, as V-AUX is not on the keys (ask the seller, it may be a different version, there were several). V-TAPE is on there for AV-1. However, every BEO4 remote will have V-AUX on its LIST, so in theory you could use trial and error, by pressing LIST, GO, LIST, GO, LIST, GO but in the meantime it will select some other crap, not going to mess the thing up though.
hey, I've not used an Avant; sure they were the highest spec CRTs that B&O produced, they could output 480p through component, and I think they had 100hz refresh rate, but the screen is 16:9 which is never perfect for old school 4:3 games, and they got pretty big and cumbersome at that size (28" I believe). The MX range is a design classic, and the screen, while not quite as sharp as the Sony's of the time, still does an amazing job. As a package the MX is better IMO.
awesome that you like the picture and sound. Yes, it really is a first rate CRT!! The menu settings are all stored in flash automatically so it remembers most settings ie contrast etc, but when you actually go into the menu, it displays in non-RGB mode which increases the brightness of the image while you are adjusting it. A bit annoying but not a showstopper.
Hi, on my MX7000 the image in non-RGB (menu) mode actually seems to be better. White is more white, the image when not in the menu's is quite blueish when compared to the image while i'm in the menu's. Could my tv be faulty?
it was on that street that runs along the old town, after a bend, with all those second hand emporiums up it. The price was steep (200) but it totally inspired me to find one on ebay!!
Thanks mate! The MX4000 is the slimmer of the two, and probably a lot more sensible for a multi system game room but the massive screen on the 7000 is pretty cool.
Hi, it performs extremely well with RGB consoles. That is the only signal input I use with it. I have always found the brightness compensation feature to give optimum picture quality. I really can't find much fault with it. OK it's not broadcast or pro quality by any means. And they can have faults. But overall, brilliant.
oh i am definitely bookmarking this bad boy. i badly need a CRT for my megadrive, N64 and PS2, and ive been holdin off to make sure i get the very best i can get.. somethin that will last for a looooong time.. and surely the B&Os are gonna be up there with the best in terms of longevity.. not to mention the performance of course. thanks for the vid. great stuff.
Hey Matt, I have a problem and hope you can help. My mx4000 colour and contrast is turned down and for the life of me can't change it with my n64 rgb connection. Any adjustments to colour are visible in the menus as it does change the colour of the picture behind the menu text, but as soon as I press exit, it goes back to all washed out. Any ideas?
Looks like I'm going to have to. Would love to add a B&O or even a Loewe but now I have everything outputting through D-Sub15 I'm most likely going to stick with another PC CRT monitor for convenience as much as anything, unless I can find a Hanatarex display. A housed vga ready arcade monitor. Yeah ya do!
I have good news on a remote as i have a Beo4 on the way! I would have picked up the television that came with it but it was situated 160 miles away so i had to leave it which was a shame as it was a MX6000 :)
Dear futurematt, I already own 4 different CRT models, including one 50hz / 50 cm Thomson that is nice and went after cheap 100hz/72cm and 82 cm Sony's. I can see some defaults but it is still a great experience. Sound is a blast as well as colors on the Sonys. Do you think this B&O would be a superior investment ? I'm not a scanline guy, I'd just be sure that I have the best CRT for playing my old systems from Snes to Gamecube & PS2. And I hear a 50hz Sony would be better than 100hz? TY!
yeah you really need the original beo4 remote to work properly, and unless you're lucky and find a cheap auction with both, you might pay over the odds for separates. The thing with the de-interlace function is that CRTs display 570 odd lines of image but in two sweeps, so there's always a flickering which on the B&O looks a bit rubbish.
ok, I can't vouch for the aftermarket remotes but hope they work! I am impressed that you went for the giant MX7000, that thing kicks serious ass, but mine had a serious fault too, mind you I got it fixed. The speakers are lovely.
I'm not aware of any feature in the on screen menus to do that. Are your geometry settings off? I can email you the sheet with my settings which should bring back a semblance of normality if that's the case, then some small tweaks and you should be OK.
Hi Futurematt5! I bought a MX7000 thanks to this vid.. But I have a Beolink 1000 remote control and can't access the Service Menu. I would very much like to play with the geometry to resize the picture. Is buying a Beo 4 enough? I fear it won't work because the system of the tv is set on Beolink 1000... What did you mean when you said: "if you temporarily connect them (the 2 scarts on the back?) via a wire (low voltage, don't worry!) it will automatically go into service mode" ? Please help!
Hey Matt, when you do the picture adjustments in service mode are you able to get a test card to appear? I'm trying to do it using just the snow and well..it's pretty hard!
The remote i have is an immitation beolink 1000 so it doesn't have a "go" button. I have tries TV, Menu 1,1,GOTO and TV, MENU, 1,1 Play (which is used to select items on the main menu) but no luck. The Main Menu Itself looke different to yours, there is only a channel list and setup options. The Sound and Clock options are missing. The sound options can be adjusted by pressing the "sound" button on the remote though. any chance of posting a video or images of where those terminals are?
Cream worthy indeed. Now I've got my Tate crt set up I just can't play games on my LCD without crying over the lack of scanlines! Looks like another monitors on the cards. I heard I'm more interested in vids like this than games at the mo!
How old is this thing? I kind've like Bang & Olufsen televisions because they are so 'out there'. Sadly though, I haven't found any yet. I kind've like the BeoVision 8902, but I bet there are a lot of other awesome Bang & Olufsen CRTs out there.
Cool vid. Nice TV. I have Sony Wega 32" 4:3 HD TV. It's pretty nice. Also you mentioned You want to get a Marty at some point....heh I own one. A Marty 2. With Splatterhouse and View Point(new) The neatthing is the Marty 2 I bought was from the same dude who created Diehard Gamefan magazine. Dave Halverson.
Hi . I got an MX7000 as a birthday present , and I love it . I just have a few difficulties with it . I can't find the " SOUND " cue to add to the list when accessing " ADD ? " , and , because of that , I can only play in Mono . I also read from someone that they can access " SOUND " , but mono remains mono ( I also tried tuning it , but , it doesn't change it ) . My other issue is that when I plug in my ps2 through scart , the image is less bright than my android tv box for example , which I have hooked up through a converter to SCART .
Thanks for quick reply. ok then, I'll look for one of theses beo4, But they look expansive! Just hope they will work with my MX7000: it's one of the first model, with the 1.1 software. The menus aren't the same as yours.
@scaffairl hey. It's got to be in TV mode so unless you can get a testcard from say a dreamcast or PS2 plugged in via RF lead, with a game that includes emulation of a testcard, you are stuck. I just switch back and forth to V TAPE. How do you rate the TV for image quality and sound?
You really want the MX4000, 4002 or higher models. I don't think the smaller models have 2 RGB inputs, or take NTSC even. They probably don't have great screens either.
I saw one for £40 and you can get replacement remotes, but only through specific B&O linked German companies it seems (not your usual "all round" remotes are they?!?). Sale fell through anyway though so I'm a Sony Trinitron boy, but happy with that! Its interesting the Beovision can have the option of *not* showing scanlines - I thought that was just a feautre of CRTs? Or is this because its a bit funky and futuristic (for its time)? Anyway, cool you got the bigger brother version as well..
Hi, since a week i have this television. When i play Gamecube and N64 trough the standard rgb cable the screen is slightly moved to the right (black border on the left side of the screen). But with my dreamcast I get a lot of overscan on the left side. (black border on the right side) I have fiddled with the service menu options. But i never can get the screen the right size for all my consoles. When i adjust the screen for the DC, so that it fits the screen. The image on the gamecube and N64 after this setting is shifted more to the right side. Is it because i use a Dreamcast RGB scartlead? Do you also have this problem with your consoles?
I am working on this since I got the TV 3 months ago.... So far, I made settings for 8 consoles, wrote them down and switch constantly, which is not the best solution! But now it got even worse: I have to fiddle with some games specifically, allthough onthe same console! Meaning, there are some PSX title, that have overscan issues allthough the general settings are fine for my PSX.... I am at the point of giving up and opting for a Sony Trinitron.... This really is a bummer and allthough some years old: have you guys found a solution yet???
Thanks, all my 60hz consoles work fine. I also believe that withe correct leads an NTSC console will display in color. But I don't know any more than that, and can only vouch for it displaying a Saturn, JP and Japanese PS2.
Thanks dude! Bitten by the CRT bug?!! Me too. I now have three sets which is plenty enough and reckon overall the MX4000 is the perfect game room addition, given its smaller frame but high specs. Are you saying that since your Tate setup is dedicated, you might invest in another CRT for your normal games?!!
Do the 100Hz refreshment create ghosting? I remember my late 90s/early 00s high-range Widescreen Sony Trinitron (or was it Wega) was 100Hz and had a LOT of ghosting. Maybe the B&O can manually disabling.
Struggling with RGB with SNES and megadrive on this TV. Do they have a RGB setting? Also looking to get a B&O mx5500 or will I have same problem? liked and subbed mate cheers.
You can't find these in the states...And ebay UK lists them sometimes, but of course, they choose local pickup only. How the hell ami I supposed to buy one of these and get it shipped to the US? Any suggestions?
No, the 3000 I cannot vouch for on any account, you would have to research that. I reckon the MX4000 is the prerfect allrounder but if you're after info on other TVs you'll need to ask around as I don't have much experience other than the odd Trinitron.
hey, excellent video! I have a question... I just picked up an MX7000 and i'm wondering about the S-VHS port on the back. Can this port be used as an S-Video port? What i mean is, can i hook up a console, for example, N64 using an S-Video cable to the S-VHS port on the back of the MX7000? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
i had the same problem, my sw version is 1.1 which seems to be optimised for the beolink 1000 remote. i tried using a borrowed beo4 to access the service mode and it didn't work. my advise is not to fork out for a beo4 as they're quite pricey. the connection matt's referring to is a jumper on the circuit bord see faginrs500s video for instructions on how to do this
@arovane44 hi! well done for getting this awesome TV. You really just need a beo4 and that really is all there is to it. Nothing else is remotely easy otherwise and beo4 is fully back and forward compatible. Good luck!
I hope to fix my Bang & Olufsen BeoCenter AV5. The problem is that the tv has a "pincushion" problem (sorry for my english), and some technicians have told me that it will be expensive to fix it, and other technicians said me that it can't fix. I've never opened a crt television, I get a little scared.

The MX4000 is the slimmer of the two, and probably a lot more sensible for a multi system game room but the massive screen on the 7000 is pretty cool.
the mx series was the ultimate crt.
mate the graphics look absolutely beautiful~
Hi, it performs extremely well with RGB consoles. That is the only signal input I use with it. I have always found the brightness compensation feature to give optimum picture quality. I really can't find much fault with it. OK it's not broadcast or pro quality by any means. And they can have faults. But overall, brilliant.
Great update on the description, very helpful and informative :-)
Many Thanks :-)
Wow, i would love to have that document also. Thanks!
I keep watching this!
I believe the MX6000 is the same model as this one, but the audio on the MX7000 is a bit better.
oh i am definitely bookmarking this bad boy. i badly need a CRT for my megadrive, N64 and PS2, and ive been holdin off to make sure i get the very best i can get.. somethin that will last for a looooong time.. and surely the B&Os are gonna be up there with the best in terms of longevity.. not to mention the performance of course.
thanks for the vid. great stuff.
aha great news mate! Never mind about the 6000, if you've got a solid 4000 setup you'll be as happy as Larry!
@GamerLev only for basic operation not servicemenu, always recommend beo4 cheers
Hey Matt,
I have a problem and hope you can help.
CRT tv the best for old school system
Dear futurematt, I already own 4 different CRT models, including one 50hz / 50 cm Thomson that is nice and went after cheap 100hz/72cm and 82 cm Sony's. I can see some defaults but it is still a great experience. Sound is a blast as well as colors on the Sonys. Do you think this B&O would be a superior investment ? I'm not a scanline guy, I'd just be sure that I have the best CRT for playing my old systems from Snes to Gamecube & PS2. And I hear a 50hz Sony would be better than 100hz? TY!
That set is awesome. I wish I had one as nice as that!
yeah you really need the original beo4 remote to work properly, and unless you're lucky and find a cheap auction with both, you might pay over the odds for separates.
Looks awesome! Do you know if this (european version of the) tv accept 60hz retro game consoles without getting an black and white screen?
Struggling to get the deinterlace function working , where is the shift button?
Did you ever sort it mate, I can’t find shift mode on my remote
I'm not aware of any feature in the on screen menus to do that. Are your geometry settings off? I can email you the sheet with my settings which should bring back a semblance of normality if that's the case, then some small tweaks and you should be OK.
What's your opinion on using CRT vs LCD for a monitor?
Totally agree! Thanks for checking this out!
A Marty 2. With Splatterhouse and View Point(new)
The neatthing is the Marty 2 I bought was from the same dude who created Diehard Gamefan magazine.
Great design nice looking set
Fascinating. Good content. Groovy. High Five
Thanks for quick reply. ok then, I'll look for one of theses beo4, But they look expansive! Just hope they will work with my MX7000: it's one of the first model, with the 1.1 software. The menus aren't the same as yours.
Thanks this gonna help me a lot , cheers buddy 😀👍
+0fUnkn0wn0rigin i have the same "problem". dont think its an error or anything, just the way it is
Same thing here, Would love to hear if anyone got a fix!
What firmware do you have guys?
Damn might have to get one for my PC Engine. Just looks washed out on my living room telly.
Thanks, all my 60hz consoles work fine. I also believe that withe correct leads an NTSC console will display in color. But I don't know any more than that, and can only vouch for it displaying a Saturn, JP and Japanese PS2.
I finally found one i can buy. Got any tips before buying? I comes with the beolink 1000 remote (but the seller said some buttons won't work anymore)
@littlefury good to hear from another happy B&Owner!!
@TheDeeplyCynical fantastic!! Really pleased you got it all working, agreed this is the best consumer CRT for gaming!!
@Baseley09 yes, Goblin! Dario Argento film soundtrack compilation.
Hi, would you recommend the 6000 ? I found one for dirt cheap, but with a generic remote. Tx!
Thank you!! You were a big help!!
I dont have the shift key on my beo4 remote. How would the de-interlacing trick work?
did you lick the pixels off the screen? lol...fantastic crt
Do the 100Hz refreshment create ghosting? I remember my late 90s/early 00s high-range Widescreen Sony Trinitron (or was it Wega) was 100Hz and had a LOT of ghosting. Maybe the B&O can manually disabling.
MX7000 isn't a 100Hz TV.
Nice vid, what's the music...Goblin? Or some remix there of?
Is there a way to factory reset the mx7000? My screen geometery is tilted and I don't know how to fix it
Another Banger gets a good Banging.
Struggling with RGB with SNES and megadrive on this TV. Do they have a RGB setting? Also looking to get a B&O mx5500 or will I have same problem? liked and subbed mate cheers.
Yay, my picture is now centered =)
Hello! Yes the TV accepts S-Video, though I've not used it myself. Good luck!
futurematt5 thanks for the reply! It helped a lot. One more question... which BEO4 remote should I be getting? The mk 1, mk 2 or mk 3?
i had the same problem, my sw version is 1.1 which seems to be optimised for the beolink 1000 remote. i tried using a borrowed beo4 to access the service mode and it didn't work. my advise is not to fork out for a beo4 as they're quite pricey.
the connection matt's referring to is a jumper on the circuit bord see faginrs500s video for instructions on how to do this
the video is called "Back to the gaming furure B&O style. for some reason i can't post a link.
I have updated the video description with all the details!
