George would never write or greenlight that. The Dawn Age, the Last Long Night, and other obscure mythological events need to remain muddied. It's what adds the mystery to the story. If it was all explained there wouldn't be a wonder factor that the reader / watcher could then fill in on their own. GRRM himself has said it about eastern Essos, Sothoryos, etc. It's to make the world feel larger and to add wonder. However, it would be interesting to see how they'd handle something like the Dawn Age. They'd really need to have a strong story and very good writing as it has events that are the foundation of ASOIAF.
William A it. Is all in the show, first there was a book written explaining the history then the show started and then he explained everything that happened in the show. Who said and did what event after event. Watch the show pay attention it is all there.
Bro, Essos is so fascinating. Westeros is cool and all, but Essos is just so Bizarre in such a cool way. I hope one of the HBO spinoffs shows more of essos
I really want at the very least, a "spin-off" of sorts centered around the seamingly endless continent of Sothoryos; maybe depictions of settlements trying to inhabit Yeen, or a spin-off mini-series about Asshai and it's wanderers It would be awesome to view this in the perspective of a random Shadowbinder honing his/her skills in magic, avoiding death from the natural elements and hostil surroundings of the area
@@mrhello7611 We also need to see Y Ti empire and their gigantic tower from the age of Long Night and also the gigantic giant that is far bigger than Westerosi giants

I think that is one of the things that would make GRRM the happiest, I have so much respect for him and hope he knows how much his fans (and would've been Tolkien) love him and his work. Just watched an interview on him seeing his home(s) and theatre in Santa Fe, found out he's married, stayed humble, and helped out his community a lot, just seems to have loved the life he's lived. @@joeroseri6201 I know what you mean about your last sentence. I talk to unknown people online more than friends IRL about these stuff!😂😂😂 I need friends IRL who are more into GOT!😭😭😭
Tbf, most of the shit prior to 297AC wasn't even described in the five novels either, they were explained in a separate book titles the The World of Ice & Fire.
Unknown The Martell storyline was shiton the show. But in the books shows great promise. I just wish it will not be the samefate as what happened in the show. Dorans revenge must be done!
Zach The Ripper it's possible but it's expensive to make it with the quality of the current version. Star Trek had a lot of episodes and will most likely produce more seasons in the future.
When people moan about Martin not coming out with the latest book I am certain they have only followed the TV version which I really love but I started reading these books in the early days and have been incredibly impressed that one man could possibly have just thought all of this up on his own. It is phenomenal and you can see why even a brief run on TV would not be able to explain all of the plots and sub plots and history. This is why they have focused on a few characters who aren't even that signifiant to the overall plot and who are fan favourites (even as we love to hate them). George RR Martin has a mind that is almost impossible to comprehend. When he says he writes without a script I believe him but also admire that anyone could accomplish what he has. When I first learned that they were coming out with the show on HBO I couldn't imagine where they would even begin. I think in all we have had the pleasure of watching the show and when people get tired there are things like this. The links are great as well. This presentation is excellent and I will be recommending it to friends who are wondering why the next book is taking so long. When we think that Martin is basically bringing this incredible story to a conclusion of sorts (who knows) we have to admire him even more. This would be like saying good bye to characters that have lasted in his mind for decades. For all I care HBO can run this for ten more years and I won't lose interest. I am eager to see what type of spin off they come up with. None are going to ever get this far into it but well done!
Read some of the original drafts for the books, they're so different it's difficult to comprehend they are the same story. You definitely won't think he writes with a script afterwards. In his original draft, Tyrion fell in love with Arya, Jaime killed anyone who opposed him and became king after Joffrey died, Catelyn Stark was killed by an Other, loads of massive differences like that.
Not sure if you have heard but one based on the long night is in the works, starts filming June so presumably airs around this time next year. That's only 1 out of at least 3 I believe
George Martin has confirmed that there is already 5 spinoffs in the works, with some of them being prequels, even one dating 5,000 years before the events of GoT.
A well developed story line. A lot of time and effort must have been put into getting this video together. I've just about finished reading A Storm of Swords and am boggled by the sheer length of this epic that is ASoIaF.
There will be at least one spin off. Game of Thrones has made too much money for HBO. You will have stories from this world until they are no longer profitable.
The Long Night is already confirmed. I hope for a Dance of the Dragons, it's just to perfect, it got everything GoT has except the White Walkers but it has more dragons, many more dragons. Otherwise Blackfyre Rebellion would be nice and the Century of Blood in Essos.
Well, they are the only ancient house to still sit on their castle. Main problem I see with fandom is many people think they gotta look for a hero and in this show there are no heroes, many some heroic moment, but no heroes at all.
“I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, and R’hollor shows me only Snow.” Yeah okay Jon Snow is the “Prince Who Was Promised” and when George RR Martin finishes his books you’ll know
This was well done and helpful. Thank you for your time and effort to help us understand the history of Ice and Fire. It helped put a lot in proper context and clear up some confusion. You could even break it up into sections and go into more detail in their own videos!

And had support of fans and ppl who knew about it like the actors for Gandalf and Saurman. And acouple others who may have known it.
Couple of bones to pick, but it's very well done. The biggest issue I have is the insinuation that Aegon III tried to keep dragons going but that he simply failed. He had a deep distrust and dislike of dragons due to his childhood.
Of course he did considering he watched his mother being eaten alive. However in the books he did try to revive the dragons. He understood that even tho he hated dragons and was extremely terrified of them. Dragons were the key to house Targaryen’s image and power. The Targaryen’s Downfall began to slowly happen without their dragons.
Nice job on this. I have listened to the audio books, but the TV show keeps sticking in my head. This concise description of what happened helped me remember the books. Thanks. :)
Wow.... good job. I always knew the book was better than the show but I forgot just how much better it is. I really really wish G.R.R.MARTIN could live along enough to finish it. Such a shame but hopefully there is someone talented enough to take over from him when the time comes.
That was awesome and must of taken some time to put together. It's appreciated, I've read all the books up to a dance with dragons, it's been sitting on my shelf for years. so this was a nice refresher before I get into it.
To think the tv show covers just a fraction of the overall timeline. The potential for countless shows that could be made from the ASIOF universe is mind boggling.
PGeraSUX Yeah I know that.😏 I meant that there is so many possible stories over thousands of years that they can’t possibly cover especially when the current show is just within 8 years.
No one ever brings up the fact that the last hero used lady forlorn, a dragonsteel blade to fight the white walkers thousands of years before Valyria is even founded... Dragons had to have existed in Westeros during the time of the long night.
Yooooooooo: This is so---- crazy! Thanks CivilizationEx for this post! It definitely is no easy thing to have created this video 🙏 You covered so--- much! My hope is that HBO goes with it and the entire story line...-Much like Disney is running away with the Star Wars thing. HBO could just bounce around different timelines and cover the whole thing. They have content and new series from the Ice & Fire stuff that could last them a century or more. Btw: I'm saying this in 2022, during the "House of the Dragon" (HBO) release
this makes me want to actually read the books... Edit: Why didn't the show cover all of this... They could've made more episodes and we would've loved it..

The only thing that bugs me about the lore is that he felt it necessary to place the early foundational years of House Stark, the Night's Watch and so forth so many thousands of years in the past. Even in a fictional, light fantasy setting, whenever those dates are mentioned I'm immediately taken out of it as it's just so preposterous. I could perhaps accept the Night's Watch lasting for thousands of years in a similar fashion to how the Papacy has been around since the days of the Romans as it is not a dynasty and is an elected position with reasons for existing outside of mere politics (religion for one, defending Westeros for the other), but that a House could maintain control of a tumultuous region like the North for a longer span of time than separates us from the great pyramids of Giza is just too improbable to accept.
ValensBellator You have to keep in mind that the history presented in these books is not always reliable. Thousands of years passed until people started to write the histories down. As Sam told Jon: "The oldest histories we have were written after the Andals came to Westeros. The First Men only left us runes on rocks, so everything we think we know about the Age of Heroes and the Dawn Age and the Long Night comes from accounts set down by septons thousands of years later. There are archmaesters at the Citadel who question all of it. Those old histories are full of kings who reigned for hundreds of years, and knights riding around a thousand years before there were knights. You know the tales, Brandon the Builder, Symeon Star-Eyes, Night's King … we say that you're the nine-hundred-and-ninety-eighth Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, but the oldest list I've found shows six hundred seventy-four commanders, which suggests that it was written during-" "Long ago." Btw the Starks are tied to the supernatural in the story. A connection with the Others. Maybe that's how they ruled for so long.
I think that can be somewhat explained by the technological stand-still this world seems to live in. I mean, from everything we see, these people have been leaving in a perpetual medieval state for 5,000 years or something, with not an inch of technological development. Since no technology is developed, societies rarely, if ever, change. Which would (somewhat) explain why a power structure such as the Starks ruling over the North is able to stay un-changed as well for so long.

I wish we had a series about the Dawn Age. I think that would be amazing. We could see the facts behind all these myths.

Bro, Essos is so fascinating. Westeros is cool and all, but Essos is just so Bizarre in such a cool way. I hope one of the HBO spinoffs shows more of essos
I am more intrested in what's outside the Known World. Hopefully G.R.R expands the map
I really want at the very least, a "spin-off" of sorts centered around the seamingly endless continent of Sothoryos; maybe depictions of settlements trying to inhabit Yeen, or a spin-off mini-series about Asshai and it's wanderers
It would be awesome to view this in the perspective of a random Shadowbinder honing his/her skills in magic, avoiding death from the natural elements and hostil surroundings of the area

I think Tolkien would be proud
I think that is one of the things that would make GRRM the happiest, I have so much respect for him and hope he knows how much his fans (and would've been Tolkien) love him and his work. Just watched an interview on him seeing his home(s) and theatre in Santa Fe, found out he's married, stayed humble, and helped out his community a lot, just seems to have loved the life he's lived. He's happy with what he's put out, and I for one have no animosity towards him for taking his time because it's my favorite series of all time. Sorry to go on such a tangent here but I just haven't had a place to properly comment this anywhere yet lol

Well the show starts in 298 AL currently at 304 AL

Its not impossible. What makes you think that one man would not have a team to assist him?
reading his books, i became convinced he takes adderall before writing.

The HBO GoT series need a prequel. The 8 seasons are like 1/4 of the book
@Worm String it makes a lot of money too
Ya guys like LOTR??
We don't talk about season 8 anymore. It never happened.
A well developed story line. A lot of time and effort must have been put into getting this video together. I've just about finished reading A Storm of Swords and am boggled by the sheer length of this epic that is ASoIaF.

Apparently HBO already has 5 spin offs in the works for after Game of Thrones ends and which ever is the most popular theyll make spin off show of
i hope to see aegons conquest, dance of the dragons, blackfyre rebellion, and roberts rebellion.
There will be at least one spin off. Game of Thrones has made too much money for HBO. You will have stories from this world until they are no longer profitable.
I want the long night
The Long Night is already confirmed. I hope for a Dance of the Dragons, it's just to perfect, it got everything GoT has except the White Walkers but it has more dragons, many more dragons. Otherwise Blackfyre Rebellion would be nice and the Century of Blood in Essos.
What a magnificent piece of work CivilizationEx . The length is wonderfully extended and I can listen to you speak all day 😂 A king is very pleased.

Damn, that must've been a pain in the arse getting the "present" and "near past" timeline correct in one go. Props to you, great video. 👍🏻
He got all this from a book called a world of ice and fire, he just animated it and summarized events at face value, still a great job though
So if it wasn't for the Starks, everyone was fucked? Yet, people still always side against the Starks.
Well, they are the only ancient house to still sit on their castle. Main problem I see with fandom is many people think they gotta look for a hero and in this show there are no heroes, many some heroic moment, but no heroes at all.

They should've waited before even doing a show on GoT....
Tolkien's books of lotr was completed and Peter Jackson had plenty of information to go off of. And had support of fans and ppl who knew about it like the actors for Gandalf and Saurman. And acouple others who may have known it.
Wasn't sure how this was going to be when I started. But this turned out to be great. Good job.
Couple of bones to pick, but it's very well done. The biggest issue I have is the insinuation that Aegon III tried to keep dragons going but that he simply failed. He had a deep distrust and dislike of dragons due to his childhood.
He hated dragons but knew they were key to their family's power.
Exactly!! He watched his mother get eaten by Aegon II’s dragon. Poor kid was extremely traumatized and wanted NOTHING to do with dragons after that.
I’ll give you a subscribe for that video alone. I can’t imagine the time and effort you put into it and it shows!

So many characters and subplot. No wonder the show has to be simplified.
The Targaryens rode the last dragons on Earth, created empires, fielded massive armies, but only one thing could possibly stop them: natural causes
Hey man this is spot on. I love your videos so thanks for all the work you put into this!
No one ever brings up the fact that the last hero used lady forlorn, a dragonsteel blade to fight the white walkers thousands of years before Valyria is even founded... Dragons had to have existed in Westeros during the time of the long night.
Where did you read that the Last Hero used Lady Forlorn?
Yooooooooo: This is so---- crazy! Thanks CivilizationEx for this post! It definitely is no easy thing to have created this video 🙏 You covered so--- much! My hope is that HBO goes with it and the entire story line...-Much like Disney is running away with the Star Wars thing. HBO could just bounce around different timelines and cover the whole thing. They have content and new series from the Ice & Fire stuff that could last them a century or more. Btw: I'm saying this in 2022, during the "House of the Dragon" (HBO) release
Took me 30 minutes to realize that he wasn’t talking about lord of the rings

So much info/history lessons in 1 video, OMG. THANKS! ;'D
ValensBellator i
ValensBellator You have to keep in mind that the history presented in these books is not always reliable.
You know the tales, Brandon the Builder, Symeon Star-Eyes, Night's King … we say that you're the nine-hundred-and-ninety-eighth Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, but the oldest list I've found shows six hundred seventy-four commanders, which suggests that it was written during-" "Long ago."
Btw the Starks are tied to the supernatural in the story.
Marat
yeah, but the Lannisters Gardeners and Durrandons ruled just as long as the Starks, the Arryns - almost as long.
