Interesting thing from the hammer of the waters video, you made an off hand joke about the children using weirwood roots to cause things to collapse, and while it was a joke, it got me thinking of the real world phenomenon of “liquefaction” that occurs in earthquakes, where the vibrations hit a certain frequency and the ground turns into quicksand essentially. The descriptions of moat cailin look like the aftermath of liquefaction, everything is sunk into the ground, some structures more affected than others. The destruction of real world Port Royal is a perfect example of what happens to a town and fort when liquefaction occurs. Buildings that survived are tilted and leaning, others crumbled into rubble. And, like moat cailin, the town was flooded by a tsunami in the aftermath of the earthquake. Just something I thought you’d find interesting, given this “disaster hunters” series you’re working on! One connection I just thought of and haven't seen anyone else talk about: The weird seasons that Planetos has. The seasons changing in length is more than just "odd". Seasons on a planet are created by the tilt of the planet's axis. Compared to its orbit around its sun. Planets that rotate on a 90° axis have no seasons. For Planetos to have seasons that change in length means that the tilt of its axis is changing continually. (Plus the long night happening when the sun is blocked out). A theory is that Earth got its axis tilt when we were hit by something big and the moon was formed. So, what if Planetos had normal seasons (a stable axis) until the meteor hit, caused the long night, AND sent the planet's axis to "wobble" as it tries to eventually settle again.
There's a great reddit post explaining how a wobbling axis probably isnt the cause. Basically if the axis were wobbling then the stars would be wobbling as well and the maesters and whoever navigates by the stars would notice
The amount of symbolism associated with the Moon Maid, the stories of Galladon, and the Sword of the Morning that you talked about is just incredible. Vids like this make me convinced that Jon's ultimate purpose is to somehow revitalize the weirwood net for a higher purpose. So many of the figures we remember from early ages are egocentric and hubristic, as you said. They used their power (ie - knowledge of green magic) to further their own ends. The true heroes -- the sleepers who were sacrificed to become the trees actually saved humanity, but *only* the trees remember. Men forget. But Jon is heavily foreshadowed to sacrifice everything to save the world.

Arya IV is for me one of the most important chapters in ASOIAF. Gendry talked to Arya (dressed as COTF and named Squirrel by Greenbeard). As a show-watcher and not a book-reader, your channel helps me vicariously live through you and the other the book-readers to explore the extraordinary world GRRM created and kind of forget how angry I am about the end of the show. I learn all the good book stuff from you guys without the decade-long time commitment or the angst of waiting on a final two installments to a series I am certain isn't going to be finished at all. :)

Dude, READ the books, even if they're unfinished! I started them this summer, so far am on A Feast for Crows, and I do not regret it. George's writing is so complete, it's not poetic or pretty but that doesn't take away anything, he's a master of the craft, the story is so detailed and full of life I can't get enough of it, I'm even considering reading his other works.
I keep returning to the thoughts that the Hammer was what created the difference between the weirwoods in Westeros and the darkened twisted version east of the impact site. Either the Hammer was used intentionally to prevent some corruption within the weirwoods in the east to spread to the whole network. A sort of intentional amputation. Or that the twisted corruption became a secondary effect of the sundering and cut offing. Could also be some combo, there’s narrative room to create something that entails both.

In regards to the theory that Azor Ahai might be the villain, I find the name Eldric Shadowchaser significant. Note that it’s shadow CHASER-not shadowhunter, not shadowkiller. Usually “chasing” something means a person WANTS that thing they’re chasing. An addict is chasing the dragon. A man who likes heavier women is a chubby chaser. Maybe Eldric is called shadowchaser because he was known for his lust of dark magic and the dark deeds he committed to sate that lust. Maybe he was chasing whatever powers eventually led to the Long Night, of course associated with darkness and shadow.
Ehh idk “chasing away” something is a very common usage of the word chase. To “chase away” is to “force something to go away” The hero figure Azor Ahai never did kill the others or whatever the power behind the long night was, he “drove back the darkness,” which is in line with chasing away something but not hunting it down and destroying it
I remember in one interview that the seasons take long to pass for a reason, and that would be later explained. A cataclysm of that scale could certainly have disoriented rotation and the angle of a planet enough so that seasons would take a lot longer.

Would not Galladon more likely be an homage to Galahad? Receiving a sword from the maiden and being a perfect knight who Brienne wants to base herself off sounds very much like Galahad, a perfect knight in a series of tales including a magic sword.
that's a great call, and explains adding the G to Alladin. And you can see the natural confluence of ideas, with Alladin's lamp and the holy grail. It's all fire of the gods-related, conceptually, and both characters are strongly associated with virtue. Very cool. Someone else added that Virgo correlates to the Greek Dike, the goddess of Justice, so further evidence for Virgo as the Moonmaid and the inspiration for the Just Maid story

Azor Ahai / Bloodstone invading the “wierwood net” could be the classic trope of a powerful mortal leader attempting to claim immortality for themselves (given the children & weirwoods have a form of immortality”, and then unintentionally achieving it but in the form of undeath (creation of the others, bloodstone using necromancy, etc.) This character would have much in common with an Arthas Menethil or Ar-Pharazon figure (particularly the latter with the hammer of the waters being kicked off similar to the sinking of Numenor; Valinor = Westeros parallels also given where the children mostly are) Should note both were first considered great heroes / strong leaders before their fall, adding to the question of if AA is hero or villain (probably both at different points)

I used to find LML theories difficult to accept and gave up on George Martin so I immersed myself back into Middle Earth, Wheel of Time, Dragonlance and learned to be a Drummer. A few years later, I’ve revisited and I totally get you now. Great work and a huge volume of vids.
Part of my weird brain likes to consider the possibility that there may have been two Long Nights - or rather 1.5. The first took place during the Dawn Age as was said in the video - the second, smaller one (confined to Westeros only) could have happened during the height of the Andal Invasion. Perhaps a rouge branch of Greenseers and Children of the Forest unleashed the Others once again in a desperate attempt to stop the Andals. Maybe this was when the Horn of Joramun was blown and part of the wall came down?? This probably isn’t the case, but it’s a fun thought experiment.

God-on-Earth = husband of the fisher queens (which I believe are a more traditional fantasy high elf type race) It’s said he had 100 wives / queens and was carried around by them on a giant pearl basically. That would be very similar to a king with many queens living on an aquatic floating city. Furthermore, with that many wives and a long life, you assume the GoE was pumping out many children (Garth is that you?). This plays into that area being the womb of the world / very first starting point of humanity and it’s different tribes. As you’ve pointed out in other videos, Huzhor Amai rhymes with Azor Ahai, and was a claimed final descendant (power in kings blood) Maybe the great empire of the dawn was first ruled on that floating city in the silver sea, but overtime the capital moved to a newer, bigger Asshai. Perhaps the city’s name is a combination of Ash (the local river) and Ahai (the founder or last ruler) Side note - the grey king & durran’s “mermaid” god wives also probably fisher queens
I've always struggled to make sense of the Fisher Queena stuff. Crawfordsville Daughter has a theory along the lines of what you're suggesting, I just can't find any evidence of a direct link. only the idea that the ancient Dothraki and Huzhor Amai came over the Bones after the LN. And those mermaids are Deep Ones I am pretty sure. the Deep Ones farm humans all over the world of Ice and Fire. I don't see how Fisher Queens are getting to Westeros or Asshai

The only thing that throws me off about the Fisher Queens being Squishers is that they were "wise & benevolent" which seems distinct somehow. What if the Others we’re always just weirspirits of winter and the first men started chopping down the trees because of their scary resurrection powers etc. Then the meteor event happened so they turned to the singers who carved faces into the trees to trap them from coming out. The watch was formed around the trees to make sure they stayed put and built the wall the keep man out of their home, the land of always winter. But…some men preferred to live beyond the wall as free men unburdened to lords and continued to trap the spirits by carving faces into the trees until they became over populated and the Others just lost their shit. The wildlings were never meant to stay beyond the wall. The wall is there to keep man on the other side which has been forgotten through history? I first had it as a child" 😂😂 18:36 I hope we get a POV of someone getting hit by a moon meteorite. 29:42 Nagga also represents Ouroboros. So the slaying of the Nagga or the "wheel of time", as Roderick the Reader calls it, could just be another metaphor for the long night. Just like the Neo-pagan wheel of the year being represented in WAYNwood (wagon wheel, ice wagon in Bitterblooms) sigil and the Wydman sigil, but both wheels are broken. When you line it up with the pagan wheel of the year, the wheel is broken between Yule (Dec) and Imbolc (Feb). If this broken wheel was on a wayn or wagon, It would stop at the point where it's broken, thus being stopped at the dead of winter. So slaying Nagga/Ouroboros is akin to breaking the wheel of time or breaking the world. It all seems to be one. Pretty sure this lines up with the Dharma Wheel of the eight-fold path also, which comes up a lot in the Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny (which has heavy inspiration in GRRM'S works). Having a broken spoke/path would leave seven (which Martin seems to be obsessed with). The wheel would be broken at "the path of right intention." supposedly. But I'll have to dig deeper to see. To me it seems that Martin has mixed ideas and symbols from Lord Of Light by Zelazny and Wheel of Time by Jordan. Each having a cyclical symbol representing rebirth and the cycle of time. 35:35 this would explain why R'hllorism is taking off during these dark times. Martin has talked about Zorasterism in interviews several times. So if in real life people saw life as hell on earth and the good god relieves you of your suffering through death by this "heresy", it makes sense that as war ravaging the lands of Westeros and no god intervenes that the idea that they live in hell on earth and death is the only way out starts to sound more accurate. 48:02 this got me thinking. If Nissa was impregnated by a human could she actually deliver a large human baby? She might've died giving birth or perhaps a C-section happened. Her belly being slit would be like the moon cracking. And if Azor was a dragon, then a dragon would pour forth from her broken moon belly, thus killing her. IDK. just random thought. Also "Get hype" is refreshing phrase I've not heard in quite some time.
agree with you on the wheel of time stuff, you've probably heard me talk about that too - the ice wagon and the waynwood sigil, exactly. I hadn't heard anyone pin it down to being broken between Yule and Imbolc, but that really corroborates the idea here about stopping the cycle of the seasons. He's basically implying it in as many ways as possible, as if the breaking of the natural order is reflected in every level of reality. The Wall is like a frozen river of time, and yes slaying the Ouroboros is not good either and yeah Rhaegar had his dream a long time ago you guys he's totally original
Something to remember is that winters on Planetos can last years naturally. The meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs created a winter that lasted a decade and killed off everything on land bigger than a cat. The one that hit the arm of Dorne must have been less destructive as there was no mass extinction that we know of, although the plants and animals must be more resilient to long winters, although the long night lasted more than one generation. Therefore while magic may have influenced how the long night was established and maintained, it may not have been quite as bad as we might think. Maybe plants could grow in the warmest areas in what could have been the summers. Otherwise mammoths, elephants, horses, cows and deer would have likely died out along with most life of the planet. There may still have been of tens of thousands of humans or more after this time, for the events following the long night or at least for genetic diversity. It makes sense if the moon dust and rock maintained a constant concentration in the atmosphere for much of that time by gradually crumbling after the initial crack. Still, multiple winters and an ice-age. The ecology of Planetos has always been a mystery to me because of this. Could all the animals and seeds hibernate and survive being frozen?
Great theory LML as always, but I don't see the need for you to try and link the arm of Dorne meteor with the flooding of the neck as you did in 30:10 and earlier in the video! As you said yourself, Grey King tale about the sea dragon could have been a meteor hitting the sea, and there were likely many meteors in the event, so wouldn't it be more likely that the swamps of the neck were caused by flooding from meteors hitting the sea around the iron islands, since they are so close to the neck? Arya IV is for me one of the most important chapters in ASOIAF. Gendry talked to Arya (dressed as COTF and named Squirrel by Greenbeard).

Dude, READ the books, even if they're unfinished! I started them this summer, so far am on A Feast for Crows, and I do not regret it. George's writing is so complete, it's not poetic or pretty but that doesn't take away anything, he's a master of the craft, the story is so detailed and full of life I can't get enough of it, I'm even considering reading his other works.

I keep returning to the thoughts that the Hammer was what created the difference between the weirwoods in Westeros and the darkened twisted version east of the impact site.
Either the Hammer was used intentionally to prevent some corruption within the weirwoods in the east to spread to the whole network. A sort of intentional amputation.
Or that the twisted corruption became a secondary effect of the sundering and cut offing.
Could also be some combo, there’s narrative room to create something that entails both.

In regards to the theory that Azor Ahai might be the villain, I find the name Eldric Shadowchaser significant. Note that it’s shadow CHASER-not shadowhunter, not shadowkiller.
Usually “chasing” something means a person WANTS that thing they’re chasing. An addict is chasing the dragon. A man who likes heavier women is a chubby chaser. Maybe Eldric is called shadowchaser because he was known for his lust of dark magic and the dark deeds he committed to sate that lust. Maybe he was chasing whatever powers eventually led to the Long Night, of course associated with darkness and shadow.
Ehh idk “chasing away” something is a very common usage of the word chase. To “chase away” is to “force something to go away”
The hero figure Azor Ahai never did kill the others or whatever the power behind the long night was, he “drove back the darkness,” which is in line with chasing away something but not hunting it down and destroying it

I remember in one interview that the seasons take long to pass for a reason, and that would be later explained. A cataclysm of that scale could certainly have disoriented rotation and the angle of a planet enough so that seasons would take a lot longer.

Azor Ahai / Bloodstone invading the “wierwood net” could be the classic trope of a powerful mortal leader attempting to claim immortality for themselves (given the children & weirwoods have a form of immortality”, and then unintentionally achieving it but in the form of undeath (creation of the others, bloodstone using necromancy, etc.)
This character would have much in common with an Arthas Menethil or Ar-Pharazon figure (particularly the latter with the hammer of the waters being kicked off similar to the sinking of Numenor; Valinor = Westeros parallels also given where the children mostly are)
Should note both were first considered great heroes / strong leaders before their fall, adding to the question of if AA is hero or villain (probably both at different points)

Part of my weird brain likes to consider the possibility that there may have been two Long Nights - or rather 1.5. The first took place during the Dawn Age as was said in the video - the second, smaller one (confined to Westeros only) could have happened during the height of the Andal Invasion. Perhaps a rouge branch of Greenseers and Children of the Forest unleashed the Others once again in a desperate attempt to stop the Andals. Maybe this was when the Horn of Joramun was blown and part of the wall came down?? This probably isn’t the case, but it’s a fun thought experiment.
The smaller one would’ve been caused by the Doom. The cataclysmic eruption of 14 volcanoes at the same time would definitely be enough for it.

It’s said he had 100 wives / queens and was carried around by them on a giant pearl basically. That would be very similar to a king with many queens living on an aquatic floating city.
Furthermore, with that many wives and a long life, you assume the GoE was pumping out many children (Garth is that you?). This plays into that area being the womb of the world / very first starting point of humanity and it’s different tribes.
As you’ve pointed out in other videos, Huzhor Amai rhymes with Azor Ahai, and was a claimed final descendant (power in kings blood)
Maybe the great empire of the dawn was first ruled on that floating city in the silver sea, but overtime the capital moved to a newer, bigger Asshai.
Perhaps the city’s name is a combination of Ash (the local river) and Ahai (the founder or last ruler)
Side note - the grey king & durran’s “mermaid” god wives also probably fisher queens
I've always struggled to make sense of the Fisher Queena stuff. Crawfordsville Daughter has a theory along the lines of what you're suggesting, I just can't find any evidence of a direct link. only the idea that the ancient Dothraki and Huzhor Amai came over the Bones after the LN. And those mermaids are Deep Ones I am pretty sure. the Deep Ones farm humans all over the world of Ice and Fire. I don't see how Fisher Queens are getting to Westeros or Asshai

The only thing that throws me off about the Fisher Queens being Squishers is that they were "wise & benevolent" which seems distinct somehow. I also question if we should read into the name "Fisher Queen" so literally, or interpret it more like the Arthurian legend as youve pointed out (classic misdirect by martin)

What if the Others we’re always just weirspirits of winter and the first men started chopping down the trees because of their scary resurrection powers etc. Then the meteor event happened so they turned to the singers who carved faces into the trees to trap them from coming out. The watch was formed around the trees to make sure they stayed put and built the wall the keep man out of their home, the land of always winter. But…some men preferred to live beyond the wall as free men unburdened to lords and continued to trap the spirits by carving faces into the trees until they became over populated and the Others just lost their shit. The wildlings were never meant to stay beyond the wall. The wall is there to keep man on the other side which has been forgotten through history? This line of thought is just me trying to connect so many of your amazing theories together LML. Hope you enjoyed the links I’ve just thrown together. Praise Garth

29:42 Nagga also represents Ouroboros. So the slaying of the Nagga or the "wheel of time", as Roderick the Reader calls it, could just be another metaphor for the long night. Just like the Neo-pagan wheel of the year being represented in WAYNwood (wagon wheel, ice wagon in Bitterblooms) sigil and the Wydman sigil, but both wheels are broken. When you line it up with the pagan wheel of the year, the wheel is broken between Yule (Dec) and Imbolc (Feb). If this broken wheel was on a wayn or wagon, It would stop at the point where it's broken, thus being stopped at the dead of winter. So slaying Nagga/Ouroboros is akin to breaking the wheel of time or breaking the world. It all seems to be one.
Pretty sure this lines up with the Dharma Wheel of the eight-fold path also, which comes up a lot in the Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny (which has heavy inspiration in GRRM'S works). Having a broken spoke/path would leave seven (which Martin seems to be obsessed with). The wheel would be broken at "the path of right intention." supposedly. But I'll have to dig deeper to see.
To me it seems that Martin has mixed ideas and symbols from Lord Of Light by Zelazny and Wheel of Time by Jordan. Each having a cyclical symbol representing rebirth and the cycle of time.
35:35 this would explain why R'hllorism is taking off during these dark times. Martin has talked about Zorasterism in interviews several times. So if in real life people saw life as hell on earth and the good god relieves you of your suffering through death by this "heresy", it makes sense that as war ravaging the lands of Westeros and no god intervenes that the idea that they live in hell on earth and death is the only way out starts to sound more accurate.
48:02 this got me thinking. If Nissa was impregnated by a human could she actually deliver a large human baby? She might've died giving birth or perhaps a C-section happened. Her belly being slit would be like the moon cracking. And if Azor was a dragon, then a dragon would pour forth from her broken moon belly, thus killing her. IDK. just random thought.

I hadn't heard anyone pin it down to being broken between Yule and Imbolc, but that really corroborates the idea here about stopping the cycle of the seasons. He's basically implying it in as many ways as possible, as if the breaking of the natural order is reflected in every level of reality. The Wall is like a frozen river of time, and yes slaying the Ouroboros is not good either

Something to remember is that winters on Planetos can last years naturally. The meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs created a winter that lasted a decade and killed off everything on land bigger than a cat. The one that hit the arm of Dorne must have been less destructive as there was no mass extinction that we know of, although the plants and animals must be more resilient to long winters, although the long night lasted more than one generation.
Therefore while magic may have influenced how the long night was established and maintained, it may not have been quite as bad as we might think. Maybe plants could grow in the warmest areas in what could have been the summers.
Otherwise mammoths, elephants, horses, cows and deer would have likely died out along with most life of the planet.
There may still have been of tens of thousands of humans or more after this time, for the events following the long night or at least for genetic diversity.
It makes sense if the moon dust and rock maintained a constant concentration in the atmosphere for much of that time by gradually crumbling after the initial crack. Still, multiple winters and an ice-age.
The ecology of Planetos has always been a mystery to me because of this. Could all the animals and seeds hibernate and survive being frozen?

Great theory LML as always, but I don't see the need for you to try and link the arm of Dorne meteor with the flooding of the neck as you did in 30:10 and earlier in the video!
As you said yourself, Grey King tale about the sea dragon could have been a meteor hitting the sea, and there were likely many meteors in the event, so wouldn't it be more likely that the swamps of the neck were caused by flooding from meteors hitting the sea around the iron islands, since they are so close to the neck?
