Loved how tasteful they made the car and brought it into another level. The Golf R from the factory just falls short, but a simple tune really turns it into another animal.
+Jason Andrews you are correct. guess these new generation VW are going for awd instead of the old fashioned front wheel drive they were known for. i would go for a DSG though if i ever go Golf
Thats why I bought mine! Wanted the ultimate proper guys hatch. Can be the regular car when you want it to be, but a stage 2 APR Golf R is just the shEIT!!
Anyone notice how a nav screen flickers on camera? See 5:46 . I think it has to do with refresh rate, and I bet it drives Todd's editing work nuts! Not really anything you can do about it. Great work of course, but I've always wanted to mention this.
My Mk6 runs about 310 hp with a retune of the ECU without touching a single thing under the bonnet, Dyno tested with proof , its quite fast with that much HP without throwing on another 140hp, it must be insanely fast. On highway cycle i regularly get 600 kilometers from a single tank without trying.
I'm genuinely impressed! I never thought I'd say this about a Golf, but I'd actually consider throwing down $50,000 or so for one with an IE Package (for the Mk7).
+Sergio Aguirre Who the hell buys evos these days? CIvics? HA! Please. See why they are cheap? GTI/R share most of their under-the-hood stuff with Audis, quality without any of the pretense of Mercs which have status/bling as a crutch (don't get me wrong some nice AMG Mercs, but generally way overpriced )
That thing would make a great daily as is. Love the fact that it has 3 pedals. Sick of all the dsg's. I get that the dsg is faster, but I'll never agree that an automatic is more fun to drive. I.E. makes some really good parts. Really dig they're products. That Monty green mk2 is f'n sick.
Nice video, wrong math. Sure the turbo kit is 7k but you need a ton of supporting mods, and the intake manifold and head are not included with the kit. Please be accurate before quoting price on kits like this.
Paul Valente yeah, I got a quote on this exact kit with the supporting mods and labor and it came out to well over $10k. You still need go buy ie's intake, exhaust, intercooler, tuning, clutch, hpfp and lpfp and a good $2k+ in labor
Demand says the golf needs "to do more or cost less". That's funny, it's the only car in its class to provide you with a dual clutch gearbox. It's got the nicest interior. As far as I'm concerned it's the best bang for the dollar in its class.
I was all excited, then realized it probably isn't legal in California (for example, the cold air intake). IE is in Utah, so you guys probably filmed there.
I have the "new" sti and it's fantastic. I would not trade it in for a Golf R despite the old engine. By the looks of things, this Golf R is superb. I just wish it sounded better!
That is quite the bargain. I have $5k into my STI and its just over 310whp 330wtq. Very impressive. I dont want to own one, but great work Integrated Engineering.
+Trevor Wray From Integrated Eng site: "Along with the turbo kit, you will need an IE FDS intercooler, IE HPFP, IE450T cold air intake kit, Milltek cat-back exhaust system, and IE mid pipe." It's more like a $10K+ kit if you're starting with a stock Golf R.
I think these new FA20 motors are pretty potent since I am running on 93gas as well. I know depending on what dyno it was ran on makes a differance. Either way still love the STI.
ive always felt like 300whp is a prefect street number. not too much, and not too little. and you will be emissions legal as well. acceleration has less to do with HP them most people think. you can make a very quick car and not have hell cat like HP.
kelsey3283 it's not "99%"where did you get that number from jezz... it engages in almost every corner or in slippery conditions or under load....and the moment you step hard on the throttle it sends 50% of the power to the back, so in reality you'll never feel the torque steer because only about 150hp max goes to the front, that's why you it doesn't torque steer and it has a feature that uses electric motor in steering assist to counter torque steer and it works great, have it on my golf, it also exists in the GTI that's why with even 220hp to the front wheels and and no AWD it still doesn't torque steer, same thing with the ClubSport with up to 290 hp and still no torque steer.
FWD biased (normally), AWD system. Not the same as a Quattro (longitudinal mounted engines), or Subaru Symmetrical, BMW Xdrive, or a Nissan GT-R. It's going to put power to the back when the system needs it, otherwise there is still a lot of power to the front wheels, which act like a vehicle normally powering front wheels (torque steer). Big difference between a car supplementing power to front wheels when the back needs it, compared to a car supplementing power to the back when the front needs it.
This is one of the best tuned Golf R I have ever seen. I love the "sleeper" looks, the balanced and poised stance of the car. I really think this video has has tremendously helped in resolving a decision making process for me. I have been contemplating since the beginning of this year which car to buy: Dodge Challenger Hellcat or a tuned Golf R. I know this looks like trying to choose between an apple and sticks of celery, but I love these two high performance vehicles and I can't afford both at the same time. May be with the help of you guys, my 2017 Golf R will be a formidable 'tour-de-force', unequalled performance king of the road that I have always dreamed of and will enjoy for a long time. Shoot me your e-mail address or something because I really like what I saw. Keep up the good work.
We're glad you liked this quick review. You can reach the show through our website, but you can reach the guys at Integrated Engineering through the link in the video description. We know they'd be happy to talk to you about strategies for your Golf R. Thanks for watching!
But at the end of the day, the competition can also buy mod and still be better or the same as the car being tested. Would love to see you guys test drive a modded 2015 WRX with full bolt ons and same with a Stg 2 2015 STI in comparison to the IE Mk6 Golf R
$7k for a factory bolt on for this much gain is quite good. I'm sure it can be done cheaper DIY but this is more refined. Anytime you up this much HP you risk burning out the engine if it's not done correctly.
Sweet kick ass. I had a 1984 GTI then a 1990 GLI 16V then 2 kids & needed more room so 7 years ago I bought a 2005 Passat Wagon 1.8T with 4 Motion & the best part a 5 speed manual. But it would be even more fun to drive it with 450 hp think they could do something like that to my Passat? But I don't now if I want it to be faster then my 1994 Porsche 911 C4 wide body but it sure would be fun. And I would still buy a TDI .
On the podcast, you guys noted the relatively poor performance of these Fast Blasts. I hope that doesn't mean you'll be moving away from them. I like them! Especially when its something older. 90% of German cars newer than about 2003 just don't tickle my nether regions. Nevertheless, great video!
You are leaving out a bunch of additional costs. I got a quote on this exact kit with the supporting mods and labor and it came out to well over $10k. You still need go buy ie's intake, exhaust, intercooler, tuning, clutch, hpfp and lpfp and a good $2k+ in labor if you aren't doing it yourself
Alrighty. I know nothing about golf Rs. I was actually about to pull the trigger on a 2016 camaro ss. I do prefer and love AWDs but I could not find one for a low price. What model and what year is this golf R? I cost 7k installed?
I don't recall if you compared it to other cars in its size and price range. If not, what does it compare to most closely and would there be a car in the similar size that you would rather spend that money on?
+Sergio Aguirre perhaps with an ridiculous amount of suspension, diff, wheel, tire, brake, transmission, mods. It eventually comes to a certain point of asking "why keep spending all this effort on a front-wheel drive vehicle? It's less useful than a 500-600 HP AWD vehicle at low speeds, which would be under 75. One of of my coworkers has a '1500 HP CTS-V, DDs a '13 S65 w/800 HP. The other has a '10 1200 HP Durango 2500 Cummins by DBS & DDs his Hellcat red key, they're in-laws. The Caddy & Dodge will easily smoke rubber at 75-100 MPH on the interstate. Pretty insane stuff. AWD simple makes more sense on a car for most people. Both the cars I drive, Mk6 & 7 GTIs, with a tune they have 260 & 300 HP. This is ample to me on nice tires BUT 300-400 HP in a Golf R is another world.
+Richard Fergusson not on the motorway. Perhaps on bald tires. Gotta get good ones, Michelin Pilot Sports grip quite well. Low speeds is where AWD helps. A 300 HP stage 1 Mk7 GTI vs a stage 1 Mk7 Golf R really shows. With the R 0-60 is 3.6-.8 & 100 around 9.5. The GTI is 2 seconds slower or more in each.
+Sergio Aguirre not disagreeing they're out there but the reliability concern is debatable - that is the benefit of Haldex 5 that send power to the rear before slipping occurs, unlike the previous gen on the R Matt is driving here. This is why most modern supercars either have AWD or fancy active aero. It's possible to do anything. Some jet skis come with 255 HP stock.
Integrated does all the programming in house, including the no lift shift and launch control. The trans is manual on the mk6 golf R, no programming to do there.
Great review, but what would concerns me is, in the long run, how does this upgrade affect the overall reliability? VW's aren't exactly known for reliability
***** Good point also. So if something goes wrong... Haha, if... WHEN something goes wrong, you probably have to take it to these guys to fix. Awesome car, just comes with headaches imo.
+daison96 wait vw aren'z known to be reliable...Have I missed somethimg? Our VW Bora is 12 years old and never had a big problem...just the typical thing you'd expect from a car its age
IE hasn't posted times to date on a single forum even asking for times... A 2+ golf R has seen times as low as 3.9 0-60, yet IE hasn't posted any...... Strange...
Yeah, it's $7K for 450 hp...if you already have the supporting parts. From their site: "Along with the turbo kit, you will need an IE FDS intercooler, IE HPFP, IE450T cold air intake kit, Milltek cat-back exhaust system, and IE mid pipe." Plus 8 - 10 hrs professional labor. I'm sure it's a great kit and this video makes me want an MK6 Golf R, but it's not "$7K for 450 hp".
So what is better value? A GTI with the same mods and similar power (a little less) for maybe 30-36k total. Or this Golf R with a little more HP and AWD for 45-47k? Personally I'll take the GTI with some winter tires if needed. For almost 50k total you are looking at an entirely different category of car which the R just doesn't quite match up.
+williebobtim Everyone has a different use for AWD I guess. Being a Golf I would assume that most owners are not buying AWD for track performance but rather everyday all year round usage.
+semiautoriflelover1 Wasn't exactly comparing it to a car like the corvette which is out of that price range anyways (about 25% increase in price). I was thinking other 4 door sedans maybe 335, S4, ATS-V
+Pali4life2 yeah, those are great cars. It's definitely a niche market, which is why VW doesn't make a car like this from the factory. I do think this golf is a bit faster though.
getting a theme from the comments, I think you need to visually demonstrate how fast it is... this car by the way, is what is we call (in the SE of England), "the dog's bollocks"
+Onoff314 Fuel mileage around town and freeway is unaffected UNLESS you use the power. If you do lots of full throttle acceleration, obviously it chews through fuel like a 450hp engine would ;)
I've got a 2017 camaro ss, 455hp/455tq @ the crank and online dyno reports are about 420 for both. Fuel economy on a recent 6000km road trip was 8.0L/100 km or 35mpg Cdn. The reason for mentioning the camaro is to show with the right engineering this kind on mileage is attainable in a 450hp car. The camaro is 3700 pounds so I'd think the golf would be lighter so depending on gearing maybe the golf would do even better. I did look seriously at the R but no sunroof was a deal breaker and long term reliability with a VW is always a question mark.
Hopefully the R400 comes out. I still don't get why VW doesn't make a VWR kit/option or something. They know people modify these cars its like they purposely ignore it.
I never knew Agent Smith retired from the matrix and is now reviewing cars.
Loved how tasteful they made the car and brought it into another level. The Golf R from the factory just falls short, but a simple tune really turns it into another animal.
I love the Golf R, I'd do this with a 2 door with integrated engineering 450hp and a stick shift!
450 to the wheels of an awd car is more like 520 at the crank. Holy balls.
+Jason Andrews deez nuts
I have 440 to the wheels in my Sti. 550 at the crank
+Jason Andrews Golf R is front wheel not 4wd
Nope, it has a Haldex system, I believe. It shares many of its components with the Audi S3, due to their shared MQB structure :).
+Jason Andrews you are correct. guess these new generation VW are going for awd instead of the old fashioned front wheel drive they were known for. i would go for a DSG though if i ever go Golf
This video lacks showing, how fast this car is.
+SwPiotrek exactly.
+SwPiotrek Your comments lacks, correctly used, commas.
Right! fucking floor it! shoot gears! show speed let us feel it.
+Tom B Your comment lacks correct spelling. ;)
thank you. Exactly what i was thinking!
Nice! If you needed only one car to do it all (daily-driver, snow trips, track-duty, etc), this seems like one helluva good option.
Thats why I bought mine! Wanted the ultimate proper guys hatch. Can be the regular car when you want it to be, but a stage 2 APR Golf R is just the shEIT!!
Yes, and you don't have to be 22 years old with a backwards Baseball cap, over-dosed on Monster energy drinks to own one like an STI owner! lol
I remember seeing this years ago and just dreaming of owning a normal Golf R but now that I actually own a 2018 i want that extra 158hp bump up 😊
They always are on the best looking roads. I’d love a list
Anyone notice how a nav screen flickers on camera? See 5:46 . I think it has to do with refresh rate, and I bet it drives Todd's editing work nuts! Not really anything you can do about it. Great work of course, but I've always wanted to mention this.
You guys should add Vbox 0-60 testing ect to your reviews....
+To The Floor! You should buy one and send it to them
+Nick Hanscome They make enough off these videos to buy one......
My Mk6 runs about 310 hp with a retune of the ECU without touching a single thing under the bonnet, Dyno tested with proof , its quite fast with that much HP without throwing on another 140hp, it must be insanely fast. On highway cycle i regularly get 600 kilometers from a single tank without trying.
really wanted to hear you rev it out instead of you telling us that it was fast.
I think they are revving it out we just couldn't tell because of how refined it is or it was just to scary to even try
I'm genuinely impressed! I never thought I'd say this about a Golf, but I'd actually consider throwing down $50,000 or so for one with an IE Package (for the Mk7).
+Samidare They haven't started their MK7 package yet as far as I know.
+Sergio Aguirre no way. More blingy, sure! Not better driving, handling.
2016 Golf R manuel is the bomb! Im going to keep mine stock.
+pescatore33 Even if you aren't looking to go bonkers, an APR Stage 1 Tune is a must. Not only is it safe, but it unlocks so much performance.
With manual I would stick with stock power, which is plenty already, but thats just me
I've owned a bog stock VW Golf and loved driving it, I can only imagine how much fun this one must be to drive.
Nice video, wrong math. Sure the turbo kit is 7k but you need a ton of supporting mods, and the intake manifold and head are not included with the kit. Please be accurate before quoting price on kits like this.

7k for everything. It's not a 7k turbo it's a 2k turbo
Did I miss something? I didn't catch what type of turbo. Do you know what turbo IE spec'd for this car?
Demand says the golf needs "to do more or cost less". That's funny, it's the only car in its class to provide you with a dual clutch gearbox. It's got the nicest interior. As far as I'm concerned it's the best bang for the dollar in its class.
looks like dog shit tho.
Love when a turning company gets it right! I'd drive the hell out of this lil beast
After shopping this in Canada...the year end clearance pricing is what it always should have been. I am loving the car.
too much chatter in the review of such a good car, need more action to see how fast this car is
I was all excited, then realized it probably isn't legal in California (for example, the cold air intake). IE is in Utah, so you guys probably filmed there.
+cadsux CAI's are illegal in California?!? What the actual fuck... They dont even do much... That is so fucking stupid
Wow, the picture quality of this video is great! kudos to the camera guys
Tim Allen: what do you do when your regular Golf R just isn't cutting it anymore?
You give it MORE POWERRRRRRR!
The people at IE know how to build a motor. In my opinion, these are the best mods for a Golf money can buy.
I have the "new" sti and it's fantastic. I would not trade it in for a Golf R despite the old engine. By the looks of things, this Golf R is superb. I just wish it sounded better!

How is that? I own a 15 WRX with about $2300 and I'm at 352 torque and 314 hp. Not saying your lying just think you may not have tuned properly.
+krinkin99 only on 93 not e85, and tuned on a mustang dyno
I think these new FA20 motors are pretty potent since I am running on 93gas as well. I know depending on what dyno it was ran on makes a differance. Either way still love the STI.
+krinkin99 for reference, the dyno I was on has stock STIs reading around 215-220.
Tight... precise... built like a tank... GERMAN ENGINEERING!
ive always felt like 300whp is a prefect street number. not too much, and not too little. and you will be emissions legal as well. acceleration has less to do with HP them most people think. you can make a very quick car and not have hell cat like HP.
ofcourse it doesn't have torque steer, Golf R is AWD.
It spends 99% of its time as front wheel drive because it's Haldex awd. Totally different then full time torsen all wheel drive.
kelsey3283 it's not "99%"where did you get that number from jezz... it engages in almost every corner or in slippery conditions or under load....and the moment you step hard on the throttle it sends 50% of the power to the back, so in reality you'll never feel the torque steer because only about 150hp max goes to the front, that's why you it doesn't torque steer and it has a feature that uses electric motor in steering assist to counter torque steer and it works great, have it on my golf, it also exists in the GTI that's why with even 220hp to the front wheels and and no AWD it still doesn't torque steer, same thing with the ClubSport with up to 290 hp and still no torque steer.

That launch from a stand still at 4:39! O_O
love R s but addicted to properly modified ones .great vid.really enjoyed watching.
wonder if it came with a 7 DSG, would it they still tune it to 450hp?
Just got a Mk6 R with 58000 miles. Can't wait to start stage 1!
Where DID YOU find that R with PAMPER miles at 🤔
That is great. You guys should check out the Revo Technik mods. The VW and Audi engines are superb but tuned well below their true capability.
You guys make the best review videos
wow amazing shots in this one. thanks for taking us to cool places!
Uhhh rims? What rims does he have on this thing?
Awesome video guys. You both love your jobs and it shows.
Looking forward to the Mk7 tune! Great job, guys!!
I've always been a fan of the VW hatchbacks... I fell in love with the R32 back in the day. The new Golf looks good, but I wish it was an AWD coupe.
Great Review Guys!!!
But at the end of the day, the competition can also buy mod and still be better or the same as the car being tested. Would love to see you guys test drive a modded 2015 WRX with full bolt ons and same with a Stg 2 2015 STI in comparison to the IE Mk6 Golf R
amazing filming location, great job yet again.
That's a pretty awesome deal for a dub enthusiast who has a pretty good amount of buck.
You can get a well sorted MK6 Golf R for $20-23K. For about $30k that is a lot of practicality and power in one package.
Great review guys!!! nice argument to buy a mk6 Golf R
$7k for a factory bolt on for this much gain is quite good. I'm sure it can be done cheaper DIY but this is more refined. Anytime you up this much HP you risk burning out the engine if it's not done correctly.

Hey it flashed and get a downpipe. It'll be quick but not a racecar..but have money on the side for repairs(speaking from experience owning a 1.8t).
On the podcast, you guys noted the relatively poor performance of these Fast Blasts. I hope that doesn't mean you'll be moving away from them. I like them! Especially when its something older. 90% of German cars newer than about 2003 just don't tickle my nether regions. Nevertheless, great video!
Let me put it this way, my 340hp Golf R got me arrested. Can't wait to give it more power.
Please please please please PLEASE do a Fast Blast of a tuned Audi A3 Quattro! The numbers say it's better than a Golf R32 but no one's reviewed it!
i want them to do the same with the mk7 R
So do the mods pass inspection in Cali?
One of the best cars to mod
4cyl 2.0 running 450 horses to all four wheels?? That's crazy
You've intentionally/unintentionally made me a potential IE Customer.
Maybe I missed it but how are the brakes?
Is that a push start mk6
You are leaving out a bunch of additional costs. I got a quote on this exact kit with the supporting mods and labor and it came out to well over $10k. You still need go buy ie's intake, exhaust, intercooler, tuning, clutch, hpfp and lpfp and a good $2k+ in labor if you aren't doing it yourself

Is this Spanish Fork Canyon? What a great car... excites me to think it's so close to me. I luv Vee-Dub!
Mediocre review until the guy said 'she goes nuts, take her to a bar and the sailors run out'. Quality.
Performance car that looks like a golf, it's like saying I'm married to a supermodel and the best thing is she looks like a traffic warden
+whiteandnerdytuba real original jeremy clarkson
+Imad S .....that's the point
wouldnt it be like saying she looks like a traffic warden, but is a demon in the sack? ie ugly on the outside but great performance....
everydaydriver gti or focus st???
do you guys know what benchmarking is??
Just got my 2016 mk7 gti. what rims are you guys running on this sleeper?
does 7k include all the suspension and upgraded clutch ? also the stock brakes are no Match for 450whp!
This video is like listening to a middle-aged couple compare brands of fiber pills.
Why no DSG?
what about all the engine/trans mappings, electronics?

Visit 3, MT tested the new R and got 0-60 in 4.5.
can u do new focus rs?
Yeah, it's $7K for 450 hp...if you already have the supporting parts. From their site: "Along with the turbo kit, you will need an IE FDS intercooler, IE HPFP, IE450T cold air intake kit, Milltek cat-back exhaust system, and IE mid pipe." Plus 8 - 10 hrs professional labor. I'm sure it's a great kit and this video makes me want an MK6 Golf R, but it's not "$7K for 450 hp".
these are so damn expensive in Australia... I reckon its our crazy import tax.
They are expensive in the U.S. also
@@johnwayne2103 I just got my 2013 golf r with 25k miles for 16k. Not exactly cheap but definetely cheap for this car
Amazing
Do they have something similar tune for the mk6 GTI???
+jrarael90 this is a lot more than a tune lol
tempting...
If you go by crank hp they more then doubled the power
sleeper LOVE IT.
The red Golf R at 2:45 was the Mk7, not the Mk6. Sheesh!
Why is it every time they show them from the back seat the screen is always flickering.
It's due to different frequencies of the camera and the display.
Refresh rate. Used to be easily fixed in-camera. But now that they use the little GoPro sized cameras that don't have the ability, it ain't so easy.
+Pali4life2 Winter tires? Lol. You're missing the point of AWD in this car mate.
...with only 2 seats, 2 wheels drive, tiny trunk...Totally different cars. A corvette will destroy this Golf at the track, but that isn't the point.
Giggly stupid horse power !!! love it.
getting a theme from the comments, I think you need to visually demonstrate how fast it is... this car by the way, is what is we call (in the SE of England), "the dog's bollocks"
Put it against a STI/EVO in order to find out if it is a killer.
Another great review. Thanks.
So basically I should be impressed by a 60k Golf?
No thanks.
$60k? $7k was put into this car that is valued at around $22k nowadays. So no not a $60k car dude. It’s half of that.
waiting for the review for Ford RS
Weird question but what does it do to fuel economy?
+Onoff314 Well it should consume more fuel, especially when you're on it.
What wheels does this car have?
+Soren Lausen The wheels on this car are VMR 810s. Pretty affordable actually! Here's a link to them: www.velocitymotoring.com/wheels/v810/
+Integrated Engineering LLC. Thanks for the reply! You guys do amazing work.
+Integrated Engineering LLC.
What size/offset? Those look just right - 18x8.5 ET35?
Hopefully the R400 comes out.
I still don't get why VW doesn't make a VWR kit/option or something. They know people modify these cars its like they purposely ignore it.
