  • The sequel (remake?) (requel?) of Escape from New York was said by some critics to be the end of John Carpenter's Hollywood career. But is it actually bad? Isn't Kurt Russell surfing with Peter Fonda into Steve Buscemi's care the greatest idea ever realized on film? We answer all those questions and more.

Curious what you think about Col Jack O'Neil from Stargate when it comes to Kurt Russell roles.

Escape from New York, was darn near a horror movie. It was dark and in the darkness you got Isaac Hayes coming after you before salty balls, Isaac Hayes you better run. Escape from LA was darn near Disneyland The movie.

This is spot on, by comparison, it’s not close. However, Escape from LA is fun to watch because it’s so freakin ridiculous

I sincerely don't understand why folks call this movie bad? Im 41 years old, and grew up with Escape from New York running on regular tv way before the sequel. Escape from LA came out my freshman year of high school and my buddy and i saw it at a discount matinee, and we liked it. Yes, the special effects are bad, and its tone is lighter and silly in comparison to the dark nihilistic Escape from New York. But my only reason i can find for people saying its bad is because it's not dark and serious like New York. I still defend this film as a fun silly ride.

Absolutely- the only thing that’s hard for me to get past is just how poorly the CGI has aged. But I’ll watch this over New York every time

Even if this is a bad movie (which I disagree) it has the best ending ever.
