  • Hey everyone! Today I took y'all along with me as I headed off for my 6 week study abroad trip. For my study abroad I flew into Frankfort, Germany and then took a train to Freiburg where I am spending the first 2 weeks. After that I am headed to the Netherlands for a week and then London for 3. Needless to say it's gonna be a long but fun next few weeks and I can't wait to take y'all along with me on the journey!

Welcome to Germany. I hope you will have a great time. Summer days here tend to be very long, warm to moderately hot. The only US state with longer summer days is Alaska. Sun rise can be around 4am, sunset at 10pm. So get ready for some long late summer walks along a local river bank, with a beer in hand, just taking it slow and easy. Yeah, at 18 you are allowed to buy and consume any alcohol here. So have fun, just don't go overboard with it; the hangover just isn't worth it. 😂
Edit: little pro tip: try the local cafes and bakeries instead of McD, BK, or Starbucks. While you might not be used to them the quality of coffee and cakes there are waaay better than the standard chains. Try some Brötchen (literally "little bread"= bread roll) . Yeah, the crust isn't as soft, but that's also the good part. The crunch of a good crust as you bite into a German style bread or bread roll can't be beat. Just give it a try.
For some good snack food you MUST try a Döner Kebap. While technically it is Turkish food, the version here was invented by a Turkish immigrant in Berlin. It has become THE number one snack food for a late night in Germany. Not exaggerating, ut really is that good.
