Hi, welcome to ShuoshuoChinese 说说中文; my name is Shuo, I’m a native Chinese teacher living in Bangkok, Thailand, I’ve been teaching Chinese as a foreign language for seven years and I’m also a language learner.
In this channel, I will upload a weekly video, in which I talk about Chinese vocabulary, Chinese grammar, Chinese culture, Chinese stories with pinyin and the English translation for listening practice.
With my channel, you can easily start to learn and understand complicated Chinese grammar, sentence structure, and differences/nuances between similar Chinese words.
If you are a Chinese beginner, I’m planning to upload videos about what Chinese language is, how it differs from English, Chinese pronunciations, Chinese characters and Chinese stroke sequences and a mini Chinese course, (10 minutes per day), which can help you learn quickly and easily. Don’t miss it!
So, subscribe to my channel and start your Chinese learning journey!
Finally an explanation for this topic, 感谢你!

Hi Shuo, love your channel and videos, I’m confusing about different words for “think” such as 想,认为,以为,等等,Can you make a video about that, thank youuuuu
What if Shuo already made such a video?!
@@TulekBehar Really? I can't find it
想=general "think", most used to share opinions.
思考=think(formal, most used in the situation where finding out the answer/solution to the question/problem).
认为=consider/in my opinions, used in the situation where you draw a conclusion after serious and deep thinking, the conclusion is unnecessary to be correct.
以为=thought/was wandering, used in when you realize the idea in your mind is the exactly opposite of the fact/reality.
I am native speaker, sorry for my broken English...
以为 is when you thought/think something but it was/is wrong. That's the only one I'm sure about, not sure about the others

看到你开心, 我就开心了. (This one is a bit hard because 高兴 is visible but I get a feeling that this one is talking about inner feeling so that's why I put 开心).
很高兴认识你 .

他高兴地跳了起来。
在中国的每一天我都非常开心。
看到你开心,我就高兴了。

Great video! For me, the hardest thing about learning Chinese is the number of words that have a very similar meaning, so this is really useful. It would be great if you could do a Part 2, and explain some of the other words that *also* mean "happy" - like 美滿,欣喜,喜悅,愉悅,喜樂,快感,歡樂,歡喜,歡快 ... 😱🤯🤪
So I'm gonna be that guy... Isn't 高兴“地”哭了 the proper formal one instead of 得? (I know in practice most people don't care, but that's how I learned it) or what is your view on 得地的 here?
here 得 means “so…that…”
@@ShuoshuoChinese 哈哈好,谢谢老师!我都没发现那种用法是存在的。
@@ShuoshuoChinese How do you differentiate the two just from listening?
@@zhongxina9569 U need to realize that in chinese, there are thousands of words u can't diff by just listening.
I think u are right. It should be 高兴地哭了. 高兴得哭了 is wrong.
joy
happy
blissful
pleasantness
enjoyment
and many more
It would be weird to say the words Blissful or Pleasantness in a conversation.
Another fantastic lesson from one of the best Mandarin teachers on RUclips
happy? what is this? can i eat it? :3
I really like watching your videos . Entertaining and well explained . Tks
你说的对
Though I new all these colocations well before it never occurred to me there are a lot of ways to describe happy in Chinese and perhaps more, certainly by frequency, than in English
开心 - open hearted i.e. well disposed in other words happy, inner attitude
高兴 - gāoxìng excited and happy, external stimulus
快乐 - kuaile used for expressing wishes
愉快 - yúkuài joyous, relaxed, pleasant
幸福 - xìngfú happiness in ones life
more than English? No...I'm not so sure.
"fun" (adj) describes a thing or activity, but it's often used to say someone enjoyed something
"joy" (noun) and "joyful" describe short-term states; "enjoy" is the verb
"thrilled" and "ecstatic" are different ways to talk about a short-term happy feeling that's particularly energetic
"pleased" and "content," similarly, are different ways to talk about a short-term feeling happy, but when it's lower energy. ("pleased" also suggests the person is grateful)
"satisfied" is probably the more formal way of saying a person or people are happy about something; "grateful" is probably a more casual version, though I think both would be heard in the news.
"optimistic" or "bright" might be good adjectives for someone's personality (though they also suggest a bit more than being "happy"; "optimistic" suggests one assumes positive explanations for most things, whereas "bright" suggests a cheerful and perhaps high-energy behavior); note: you may also hear "optimistic" be used to describe how someone feels about a particular thing or future event
"serenity" (noun) I think is usually used to describe a peaceful happiness, long-term
"bliss" (noun) or "blissful" (adjective) is used to describe a ...usually short-term feeling, but it could be for days, and it's an exaggerated no-worries high-level sort of happiness.
[I keep thinking of more, so I'll stop there]
...The thing is, with language, some of these are usually used in certain ways, so you may not hear them often (I'm guessing "yukuai" is a version of this). My Chinese is terrible, but I've heard "kuaile," "gaoxing," and "kaixin" pretty often, but different contexts - I'm guessing it's the same with English. It depends on the context.
Speaking of, you yourself mentioned at least 6 different ways of saying you're happy in English just in trying to compare the different Chinese terms (well-disposed; excited; happy; joyous/joyful; pleasant; and relaxed [though "content" or "satisfied" are probably more useful])
Forgive me...I hope you don't mind me responding as such. Your word-choice and syntax suggests you may be an English language learner, so I wanted to comment partly for you and others learning English, and partly because I think many language learners (like me) underestimate the nuance and complexities of other languages...or perhaps, overestimate their own language.
@@tagkoz5254 There's even more than this! Just to name a few that only begin with the letter 'J' for instance: Jolly, Joyous, joy, jovial, jubilation, jouissance
Actually, English has other words than just “happy” which can translate those five Chinese words more accurately. For example, gao-xing is best translated as glad or pleased. Kuai-le means lively, upbeat. Xing-fu is happiness or bliss, etc.
@@johnsarkissian5519 English has a huge vocabulary but happy is the go to word for everyone and everything. 轻松could be happy go lucky, light hearted, it's entirely possible to make very good appropriate translations in any case but in fact just like English gloms it all on AND so also it does the same with HAPPY. It's part of why english is a fairly easy language to learn despite its *apparently* unruly (in truth... arcane) spelling and reduplicated grammar (vestiges of Latin/French and German grammar).
This one is also very helpful. Will repeat it definitely. Ye ding ke...
At 3:38 If you don't have many chances is the correct way to say it. While u offer me chinese, I offer you English.
