    I’m in a school with lots of faster, modern players… I absolutely love Lucas’s style because it allows me to stick to people and slow the game down!

    I come back and watch these half guard breakdowns every few weeks to figure out the details. Thanks again for putting this together.

      +Blockhead Awesome to hear it helps so much! Hopefully there should be a couple more videos and then a book full of gifs to really nerd out on the details coming up!

    This is great stuff, one critique. The back step is a threat, especially without a good reverse half guard. However the position you showed when introducing this was Leite going for a failed coyote sweep with a reset, which is half of his 1-2 punch from underhook half. The pant grip is part of turning the wheel along with the knee twist to dump your opponents hips and come up on top. Keeping the knee torque all the way through puts you into a brutal control position from the top where you can dog bar or pass easily. In nogi coyote the pant grip becomes an underhook on the leg or a foot grip. To prevent the back step He more commonly uses the top side leg like a crab hook to prevent the back step and subsequently takes the back from there by going out the back door and dropping them into the pocket. You will see this at the beginning of his highlight vid here on RUclips. Perhaps you covered this in another video and maybe I’m missing something. At any rate this was great stuff and I really like the far side leg hook analysis from the dog fight position. Oss

    Awesome breakdown! (and nice soundtrack, too!). I never think about simply using the straight leg to prevent the backstep, I'll have to try that.

    CORRECTION: At 1'40 you say that the position is essentially the truck .Its not . With the outside hook in place its a Sacrifice
    Ko soto Gake position from Judo (which is a great way to enter the position) . In order to do the truck , it must be done with the opposite leg with an inside hook , essentially the sacrifice ko uchi Gari from judo ( Again another great set up ). Thanks for the great breakdown !! Keep em coming

    Really great for sport Bjj but really bad for fight Bjj so I'm not sure if I would ever use a deep half guard sweep....

    • @GambleDub
      @GambleDub  9 лет назад +3

      +Luc Nguyen I wouldn't really call Leite's half guard deep half. If anything it's far more similar to traditional half, or 10th Planets lockdown half. Demian Maia uses this half guard a bunch in MMA, in fact he used this exact "far hook control" to take Gunnar Nelsons back.

    • @LucasNguyen1980
      @LucasNguyen1980 9 лет назад +3

      +GambleDub I stand corrected this isn't a deep half and yes watching the video this seems farm more applicable to fight Bjj since the head is ducked under the opponents arm to be prevented from being strikes and the far hook allows you to shift your hips to stand into a single leg hold to swing and take the back. What had happened was I automatically dismissed this thinking it was a deep half... My apologies
