As an obs gasser guy looking to make the jump to the diesel world, this video is invaluable. I can pick a great gasser in my sleep but diesel is new to me. I thank you.
Thank you! I'm buying a 99' with 205k on it soon and this made me much more comfortable with the purchase. 1,000,000 is my goal! Keep up the great work!
Bro, we are a cult following on our 7.3 l powerstroke. 2002 extended cargo van, 245,000 miles, replaced everything bro, new glow plugs, new injectors, new water pump, new radiator, new high pressure oil pump and low pressure oil pump, new gas tank, new fuel pump. New battery cables, 22 years of service bro. Never gonna let me 7.3 l go, ever, cult followers!! If you hear a 7.3 l diesel you know if it's healthy or not, it's sound is legendary and so consistent across the board, here is too another 20 years of service from the most simplest engine and the most driven on the road, over 2 million strong!! 7.3 or die!!
I have a 2,000 ford F-250 and runs like a champ! Its at 430,000 miles. It wouldn't start and had a whirring sound to try, found out the starter bolts got loose. Good thing I found that out before buying a new one and replacing it.
Thank you! I just bought a 99 F-350 4x4 4 door long bed all white even the grill and door handles and it’s lifted with a tuner on race mode and purring like a kitten! I absolutely love it but fuel is expensive at 10 mpg
I'm currently looking at a E350 with the 7.3 power stroke. it was an ambulance but now decomissioned. it has 300k milage after seeing this video its making me feel better about buying it. its only 6k
I got a 2000 e350 ambulance in 2017. It's my work vehicle (I'm a locksmith.) Got it for 3900 with 280k. I just passed 400k and it's still going strong.
When its cold and the door is stuck, pull on the door at the bottom edge so the handle won't break. Luckily Superduty handles are easy to replace. Just bought my dream truck, 2000 F-450 4x4 manual, PTO dump 1/4" steel flatbed with drop down sides. I turned over 50,000 on the drive home from purchase in Spokane. 400+ mile flawless drive. I have had to replace the GP relay. I put in the White Rogers. Not a cold winter but I live down by Sunriver at 4500 feet. Great video!
Sometimes the blowby isn't a dead giveaway I gambled on a 03 excursion 7.3 I bought non running got it running had no blowby but a few of the cylinders were crazy low on compression
So the shaking of the motor means injectors? I got a 95 7.3. Smokes for like 3 seconds at start up but all in all, barely any blow by, no leaks, and doesn't smoke. I always wondered though why the engine shook like it did.
You’ll probably never see this but you said if it does not clear up you need new injectors now I put new ones in but still does it could that be the IDM
Easy check for diesel in oil, VERY IMPORTANT ON POWER STROKES AND DURAMAX. TAKE a paper towel, pull the dipstick, DROP oil on the paper towel. If there's a "halo" around the oil stain you have diesel in your oil. LOOK CLOSE!!!
I feel bad for my truck. Been sitting at my inlaw's land for over 5 years with flats. Maybe I should pass it to someone who'll give it more love. This video motivated me to visit my truck and maintain it just for kicks and giggles. 7.3ls are definitely the best bang for the buck! Less power than newer trucks, but will definitely outlast them!
@@dsimondublin Nice find! Deal’s always come, just gotta look hard enough. Just most people here think their 7.3L 2wd with 300k miles is worth 13k Lol. Market’s gonna crash soon I think.
@92ford13 yea it's crazy. Not sure what it's gonna do. New trucks are 70k+ if you find a deal jump on it. Realistate I thought was going to go down but hasn't stopped yet either
I wouldn’t be pass on it if it’s not rusted out, leaking oil, I also found that you should be prepared for some repairs if 10500 is your max I would wait for a deal.
I use the ELM327 obd 2 scanner with torque pro app on my 97 obs and so far it is helpful wish I had pod gauges but being a daily driver i need to make this a project truck and drive something else. Thank you for your buyers guide video one thing I would mention is look at battery cables since the 7.3 have 2 batteries and seem to have a lot to do with electrical issues cause 7.3 are fussy when it comes to sensors and relays n such. Again Thank you I did subscribe and it's nice to see Central Oregon again Miss the High Desert scenery.🌄🛻 keep on trucking 🤠
Well when you drive it like a pissed off teenager of course you’re gonna brake it🤷♂️ bro bought a 7.3 expecting it to be a race car😂 that’s not what they were made for bro if you wanted a race car you should’ve bought a 6.0 if you want a dependable work truck then you get a 7.3‼️
Dude showing a bad one is incredible. Thank you for that. Everyone shows what a good ones like but you never have a comparison.

@@grantkramer5145 14k. New water pump, power steering pump, 5th wheel installed, and upgraded radiator and transmission
Just a new guy talking here, I’ve never owned a diesel but need a work truck asap. This stands out as a great video. Thanks man!
Dude I’m about to buy a 7.3 and this was the best video I have ever seen.
God bless and thank you for so much information
You are welcome. If you are local, I have a 7.3 for sale. Email me for details

Great video, James!! I'll know what to look for, if I go to buy a F250.. Thank you brother!!
I think this video will help me. I’m looking to get a 7.3 Powerstroke to use the engine trans and chassis for a swap with a 86 F350
Thank you. So informative. I appreciate ya.
You are welcome
Do you happen to sell any trucks at the moment? I'm located in WA and am in the market.@@CentralOregonShenanigans

Great video!
Early Super Duty (99-02) ALL came with Dana 50 fronts (F250 AND F350) UNLESS it's a dually.
'03-UP Dana 60.
James,,, who you looking at??? Was Sasquatch walking around the back yard??? Lol. Thxs for run down.

You're more checking glow plugs than anything else with a cold start (and batteries).
Power Stroke glow plugs are kind of a pain to change.
HOLY CRAP haha Bend Oregon!! youre around bend? im in idaho
I’m local if you come across a 1 ton front axle swap into super clean 1996 F250 SD
Just bought a 2000 f350 dump truck with 78k miles hopefully it will last longer then me
You’ll probably never see this but you said if it does not clear up you need new injectors now I put new ones in but still does it could that be the IDM
That bad running '03 probably had cracked top rings from ether use.
I appreciate the video, helps a lot, what intake do you have on your personal truck and that burgundy truck?
I have a 99 7.3 f550 western hauler, debating on selling due to possible head gasket problems. Should I sell or keep? 248k miles..
I'll buy it
@@marcosanchez1859 it's in South Florida homestead. Lmk how much.
I’m looking into buying one that’s in Redmond right now😂
That is funny
Great vidya
Tire should not be in the consideration of buying a truck may be getting a cheaper price by a small margin, but not determining it

I have an old cowboy coworker who offered to sell me his 94 f-250 longbed under 300kmiles for $5000.. should I pick it up??🤔
It runs, he drove it to work today.
I picked up a 95 that has ob2 but the motor is trashed in it so it's getting everything out of a 96

Under 12k if you got 30k or more to spend then might as well get a 6.7 and have a much better truck.
@@JoshuaOverman I agree, no reason to spend new price on a 20+ year old vehicle. 7.3 are nice motors, but they're all aging

The "bad one" could just need uvch's.

ALL automatic 7.3s have TERRIBLE trans. cooling. Plus a bad front pump seal.
Don't let them get up to 200 degrees.
ADD COOLERS, YES coolerS!
Powdered metal rods, not powder coated.
Powdered METAL rods. Not powder COATED rods.
'94-'00 forged rods.
Don't put ANYTHING powder COATED INSIDE your engine.
