Wonderful memories you bring back. 55 years ago I did the Trans from Perth to Adelaide with my Nana. First leg Perth to Kal was a horror night. 3'6" gauge rattler and I had to share a 2 bunk cabin with a smoker. And I was a severe Asthmatic with no medication. But after the change to std gauge at Kal and a comfy cabin shared with Nana the trip was wonderful. Extra spesh was the stop between sidings on the Nullarbor due to problems ahead. We were allowed to get off the train and wander about. Then after dinner that evening Nana did a naughty and took me up to the obs car at the tail end of the train. We spent a time chatting to others and enjoying the view. But got busted on the way back to our cabin. We were second class. Only first got to see the view from the rear LOL.

I've been watching some very ordinary travel videos on here, with people who don't know how to write interesting words or speak clearly, or even bother to create interest. Your video is superb. Thank you for the class and quality - it deserves far more views.

Great video Dave, really enjoyed watching. Just got home from Australia myself, was in Adelaide last week at the central market and walking along the River Torrens. Shots of the Nullarbur Plain bought back memories of outback adventures, 4WDing in the Red Centre and trips from Adelaide to Sydney. Thanks for sharing

Beautiful video Dave. It is nice to hear someone speak so appreciatively of this wonderful countryside. Im booked on the Indian Pacific in a couple of months and this video gave me a good idea of what to expect.

Most tourists overlook the negatives and finer itty gritty details unlike the locals - so hope you didn't get your hopes up too high!

I took that train, and we had the great fortune to conk out in the Nullabor , about as far away from civilisation as you can get.
The air conditioning had also gone down and we started to bake on board, so they let us off the train to have a walkabout with the warning to always keep the train in sight because if we couldn't see it, they couldn't see us and they weren't going to come looking!
Wandering about on this seemingly endless plain I got chatting to an Irish girl off the train. I never saw her again until two years later when she walked into a pub in I was drinking at in central London. Of all the bars in all the world, eh?

Nice job Dave. Notice some drone footage. Courtesy of Great Southern Rail perhaps? Or did you have one yourself to use while at Cook, and did you fly it to photograph the train from above while it was stationary there?

+Bob Bell Thanks Bob. I carried my own drone and flew it at Cook. It's a DJI Phantom 3 Professional - love the view!

They accept your money to buy tickets, then 3 days later they cancel the trip. Then add that you might not get a full refund. WTF

Frankly I believe there's much better rail travel tourist setups than GSR - it's overpriced and way overrated.
