I'm going to show you how you can taper your own jeans at home, and I'm going to get straight to the point because there's ZERO reason for this video to be 10 minutes long.

Thanks dude
Better just, just buy stuff in your size, save yourself the hassle
We use to do this in the 80's
@@PurpleObscuration Tapperd legs is not a size factor. Leg tapering is a cut preference. Like a Italian suit vs British, or American cut.
@stylish D your channel is amazing! New subscriber!! I love that you show the settings for the sewing machine. Notalotof DYI RUclipsrs do that. Came changer.
Thanks for that. All the female RUclipsrs love to turn this into a 30min video. And as a woman myself I can say, ain’t nobody got time for that! And your video shows it really doesn’t have to be that way, I followed your instructions and it turned out perfect. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Exactly!! Aint nobody got time for that!!
😅😅👍🏻
They even have the gall to talk about their life stories and their "soul searching" in India haha
Nah, I don't want to watch 30 minute 'how to'-video's as well. Straight to the point and get it done.
The sexism wasn't necessary, but I agree with the sentiment.
I appreciate how straight to the point your tutorials are, thank you for posting!
I used to do this when I was in high school. Thanks for reminding me about this technique, so I can taper my son's jeans the way he likes them.
SD, this was exactly what I needed! Recently lost 36lbs and had to take in jeans, taper the legs, and take up the legs. You're the man! Thanks for your effort in making these helpful videos.
Congrats on that AWESOME weight loss my friend!! That’s incredible!
I corrected/altered my pant today following this method. Worked like a charm. Thank you so much. ❤
Love from Pakistan
Thanks so much for this. It's incredibly hard to find work pants with actual pockets as a woman in the trade, and I was sick of rocking the JNCO look from the menswear I had to settle for. My workpants are night and day and it literally took less than ten minutes. I feel awesome. Definitely will check out the rest of your videos!
You're so welcome! Ah yes JNCO jeans...memories...
Yes, this. Same thing here. I have been buying slim mens pants because pockets and length. But I am getting tired of wearing pants that almost fit. I am so glad I Found this video also. Now I can just make all of the clothes the right fit
The JNCO's!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Good times!!!
I am grateful for your channel SD. I hand hemmed my work dress pants last night, tonight I’m tailoring my first pair of jeans. These videos are well done, to the point and male oriented. Thanks for the effort you put into them.
It worked out pretty well for me. Kinda rough but it was my first time sewing anything.
After a night of practice with the sewing machine I actually did it.
Got some guinea pig jeans from the thrift store and after mangling then I managed to get my new jeans fitting a lot better.
Where have you been my whole life. Following/learning tailoring can be time consuming. I’m wordy, but I like my tailoring to be short, this hits. Thanks man.
Man, your videos are addicting to watch. I’m one of those 59 yr old women who just started learning to sew masks (3211 of them) and got addicted to sewing. Your tutorials are both entertaining and interesting, so, thank you!
Thank YOU so much for the super chat! That was very generous of you!
Woo finally - an instructional guide that doesn’t take forever. Got some second hand Levi’s to alter for my husband - thanks to your tutorials I might have a chance at not screwing it up! #boop
How did it go?
Absolute legend. Other videos i have seen are quite complex for a beginner but your methods are much easier and the results are just as good, if not better. New sub for you and thankyou!
Just tapered jeans by cutting off the excess fabric first and then sewing, your method makes so much more sense.
Thanks for the great vids, D! As a short, slim guy finding pants that look nice is such a struggle. You make these tutorial so simple and entertaining!
Thanks for the feedback! I pride myself on keeping it simple for people. There are enough long complicated tutorials as it is...
Hmm
What I read once was right
Boys want attention
Men want Respect
And Legends like me don't care 😂😂😂😅
I was scrolling so this video came and yeah its a good idea...
Thanks Mr-D.
Love the short video style!
Thanks for the feedback! I'm experimenting with it for now but so far the feedback has been good!
didnt get the straightest of lines since it was my first time sewing but MAN these are the best fitting pants ive ever had. since i have short legs most pants are extremely baggy near my feet but i can finally taper all of my jeans to my liking. this little machine was a worthwhile investment and thank you c:
Dude don't even sweat those lines! I've tailored so many things that had minor imperfections that I thought I would hate. Over time I loved how the piece fit so well that I completely forgot about the mistake I had made. I'm sure the same thing will happen to you!
Thank you. My journey of tailoring starts here. Excellent video and personality.
You got this!
Thank you so much for this video man. I recently lost over 75 lbs and I always wore shorts for 15 years straight. I got my first pair of jeans and the length is great it is just so baggy. I'm watching this at work and I can't wait to go try this. I love jeans and pants but they've never fit me correctly being overweight and 5 foot 6.
I really value being able to fix things myself and this seems like an incredibly valuable skill as I'm sure you can use your concepts and knowledge and take it over to other fabrics. Thank you thank you thank you!
Awesome job!!!
Thanks a lot for this, man. I did it all by hand since I don't have a sewing machine, but it turned out great, you really can't tell. Took me many hours, but it was worth it. Thanks!
Dude, you rock. Nice and to the point, and anyone who sucks on a sewing machine can easily manage this method. Thanks
Thank you for creating these efficient yet informative videos! I really like them and am also trying to learn tailoring at home to suit my needs...Keep up the good work! Love these!
Glad you like them!
OMG I actually managed this and who would know? A little tip for people like me though, if you're shortening too, do the narrowing first. I learned the hard way 😅Thank you so much for this quick no nonsense tutorial.
thanks for the tip, I have to shorten, bring in the waist too.
I'm blown away far away from this universe because this was a 2 min helpful instructional video.
Omg....where has this channel been my whole life!!! Thanks for the great content
Use to think it was taboo to taper from the out seam…I feel sooo much better seeing this!
Personally I’d take 5 minutes to un pick the hem and then turn it back up once you’d tapered but anything that encourages men to tailor their own clothes gets my vote! Been doing my and my mates stuff for years
Thanks for making this video mate, you just earned a sub.
I like how your videos are short and straight to the point.
Sending power and blessings from Melbourne Australia
I tried this on a pair of my jeans and they look waaaaay better. Thank you!
Great to hear!
Thank you. You helped my fix my middle school daughters pants the night before the first day of school. 💚
Best taper video I've seen so far. As a big guy, it is hard to find jeans that aren't baggy and this helped a lot. Tnx
Bruh same but I’m still gonna have alterations place fix them
Stylish D is a legend I just fixed up a new pair of work pants with these videos and it was super easy
Man I have to come back and thank you from my previous comment. I borrowed my moms sewing machine and I followed your instructions rigorously. I did it! Definitely not as perfect as yours by a mile. Idk how you make the stitching look so easy!
So much better than standing on a chair while auntie accidentally poking your legs with pins while telling me not to move when she damn well knows I'm not moving 😂😂❤
Love reading comments like these!!
Hey, D! I found your videos after getting fed up with poorly fitting clothes and wanting to see how hard it would be to do some basic tailoring myself. Your tutorials are seriously great, man, and your personality is just the cherry on top! I just got a brother sewing machine and have already shortened and re-hemmed several pairs of shorts! I'm wanting to taper and shorten some of my jeans too and maybe move on to tailoring some button shirts and maybe even a blazer.
One question I've got for you with this tutorial is how do you know where to measure to for the knee since that's where you're tapering up to?
Thanks!
Hey there, awesome to hear that you took the plunge!! As far as your question goes I like to measure from the middle of my knee. You can do just below or above no problem just as long as you're consistent about it moving forward and always using that same spot.
Thanks! So while wearing the pants you measure from the bottom of the hem to roughly below your knee?
Love this! thank you for making these quick tutorials covering jean alterations!
You're so welcome!
Wow! Now, I've got to pull out that sewing machine that's been collecting dust for the last 4 years. Not sure I even remember how to thread it. THANKS for the tip. Great video!
Thank you so much for the simplicity of this video. My son has homecoming in a week and I don’t want to pay someone else to do the alteration to the leg
Hope it went well!
You have no idea how appreciative I am of the booping sound you made when you put the pin in!! 😂
Thank you for making this so easy I get my pants tailor all the time but it has become very expensive so I bought a sewing machine to learn to do it myself and your video made it soooooo easy
I came here because I have a 6-year-old who demands to wear skinny tapered black jeans and nothing else. Those are surprisingly very hard to find. 🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️ THANK YOU!!
You're very welcome! The struggle is real, I get it...
I can just sew the taper straight on, ofc 🤯
This changes things
Thanks so much! I went and bought jeans at the store thinking they'd fit but the legs are damn near bell bottoms, I was thinking I was SOL but I didn't realize how easy it is to taper. I'm going to fix them no problem
Love the video simple and fast and straight to it thank you for the video
Thank you for this!! I remember my Momma doing this back when I was a teenager in the 80s.👵 She took it in on the inside because no matter how she angled it, there was a pucker. So she hid it on the inside of the pants. I've got some wide leg pants that sit in my drawer so I am gonna try to tackle this soon!!
I was paying attention so closely that 1:44 made me jump 😅
Thank you for this video, it was exactly what I needed!
Kept it simple and explained well, definitely earned a sub
Double thumbs up!! I stumbled upon this video (I mean, it popped up in my feed, lol) but it’s just what I need and keep forgetting to do a search for. Thank you for a simple and easy to follow tutorial!
thank you, this was the only video i've seen that was quick, informative, and simple
Glad it was helpful!
My grandma use to do that to my pants back in the 90 . It does works and looked great.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees, finally, I can do something with the 23 denim pants with almost bellbottoms I have in a trunk somewhere!
*Release...THE KRAKEN!*
- You before you start tailoring all those pants!
Love that you said you hate a long intro because so do I…..long intro I tune out right away thanks for the tutorial
I need a sewing machine now. Great tutorial, correctly tapered jeans and pants look so much better.
Thank you man! Really needed this. Your clear and cool with it!
Great tutorial SD! If you need a new video idea, I have a personal pet peeve of gym shorts being waaaaay too long. You think we could get a tutorial on how to shorten some gym shorts? That polyester material baffles me lol.
Sure thing, but as a heads up it would involve tapering as well, as if you just shortened them they might look kinda funny.
@@StylishDTailors They do look weird everytime I just shorten them! I never even thought of that. I always figured if you shorten the inseam on them they'd just look like a shorter version of the original. There's literally no tutorial on youtube for this so I appreciate the response and future content 😁.
I'm not a guy, but thank you for showing me how to fix my jeans :)
SD, dude I’ve caught the bug too! Your videos are awesome and you’ve got just the right mix of humor, personality and information. Not to mention you cut out all that long intro/ramble on BS that’s in most other RUclips vids. Huge fan here and am lucky enough at my work that they have a big “destroy old clothes” box because they can’t donate stuff with the company logo on them so I have tons of practice material! (Now I’M the one rambling…) Anyways I have a request from you. I’m a big Football fan, and I play Ice Hockey, so any chance you could do a video on the needles and techniques used to shorten jersey material in hem length, sleeve length, and jersey width please?
Solid idea! I'm going to do a video on some workout materials so that will work out perfectly!
Cool!! We did the same thing in the 80’s when we wanted rocker/metal jeans. Had to make our own.
Right on!
"I don't like long intros" - Best line I heard on youtube ever.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I just bought a pair of jeans that fit so well from the knees up, but the legs are too wide to fit my proportions. This just might make them the perfect jeans for me.
I love this video! I pulled out ALL my jeans I was gonna throw away. I got some work to do! 😎✊🏾
Thanks D! Lets bring back life skills! Our kids couldn’t believe when I broke out the sewing machine a few years ago and made some repairs. 8th grade HomeEc!
Bro lets go! Kids these days have no idea I tell ya!
This is awesome! Thank you for being direct. I need to alter my scrubs since they are too loose, now I know how to.
Glad it was helpful! You're gonna look AWESOME in those scrubs!
I seriously appreciate the BOOPS! Don't ever change.
Glad they're appreciated!
Thank you so much for this I had a pair of baggy jeans and I absolutely hated wearing them I was always embarrassed to wear them but now that I’ve seen this and turn them into skinny jeans and I look great with them
Glad I could help! Now they're gonna become your FAVORITE jeans!
Worked like a charm. Bought some shorts that where one size too big (didn't have my size) and your method got me right. Thanks for all your videos. They come in Clutch. Used the denim taper last week.
Just what I was searching for n only 2mins. Stylish D you the best
I Love tapered pants!
As someone who regularly tucks his pant cuffs into his socks, people have mistaken my straight pants for tapered, lol
I hate long intros too.....there nothing worst then a 15 introduction and a 5 minute tutorial. So glad I ran across you. Excellent tutorials.
Thank You so so much brother...you cleared my life long trouble...to make Tailors understand what they actually needed to do 😍😍😍♥️♥️😍😍 😍😍 may god bless you sir ...form my inner core of my heart! And your family too !!!
Most welcome 😊
Just found the channel, I love it. Been doing pants alterations for myself for 30 years because my single mom couldn't afford tapered leg Levi's so I learned sewing in Home Ec and improvised. I sew better than my wife, 😂 I cook better too
Welcome!
Aye D you killed this video and your other videos as well. Great Job and Thank you!
excellent video !! congratulations super fast without so much explanation ...
Straight to the point , I love it thank you !
This is really going to help a lot, Thanks for this easy tutorial!
You're welcome!
Thanks, watched a couple of your videos, now I feel ready to bring my pants to a tailor.
فضيحتكم ف العالم

My friend ( Anthony ) was doing this to our jeans when we were 15 years old back in 1987.
While listening to Run DMC I hope!
So glad I found this channel. Awesome work bro :)
Glad you enjoy it!
Good video mate 👍 you've solved my problem of getting clothes to fit me correctly I'm
6ft 4in and can't get anything to fit I've started to tailor my own clothes you've saved me a lot of stress trying to get things to fit me
Stylish D! Just came across your chanel and I Love It! I can never buy clothes that I feel comfortable with the way they fit, I buy clothes I like and they just sit in my closet. Thanks to you I'm going to tailor them myself. When you say measure to where your knee is? Bottom top or middle of knee? P.S. I'm a guy, but some how my youngest daughter took over my email account and name. These kids are way more tech savvy then us adults.
I want to take you for this quick vid. I love denims for many years and I would always run by them quickly unfortunately. I always end up damaging them and they always end up being throw. I want to learn how to fix my denim and learn to sew so I'll most likely be looking at your videos for help lol
Safety pins work well too. Also for short sleeve shirts that are too wide. 👍
A lady did this for me on my selvedge jeans. Didn’t really work. I lost the unique hem ,but also ended up with a pucker at the top of the leg. I’m told the proper way is to pull the inside leg thread out. I’d only recommend this method on cheap cloths you’re not fussed about.
Absolutely love how you get to the point and make it super easy and understanding.
Earned yourself a sub for this one, my guy! What thread would you recommend for sewing denim?
Regular polyester thread will do you well!
Thank you so much, needed something striaght forward and this is perfect. So many vids online really confused me and put me off attempting this but you've bought the simplicity back, thanks...can I ask you to recommend any budget or high end sewing machines please
For sure, any used sewing machine for like $60 can do this for you to be honest. Even a brand new one shouldn't cost you more than $120.
Mane its the vid i was looking for my whole life i swear🥵
Bro! you made what was a mystery of nature seem easy to me. 😅
You also can make it unsewing all inseam in order to keep the same appearance(abrasion) along of the side seam. Tha idea is take the points of measure(bottom, Knee and thigh) from another favorite jean that you feel good
"That's what she said" bravo sir very droll very droll 👏👏👏😂😂😂
D, thanks for the video. Question, for the knee area did you measure to the bottom or the center of the knee?
I measured from the bottom
I'm a woman but also find myself wanting to alter my pants. THANK YOU!!!
Great videos!
No time wasted. I love it.
Thanks bro. New subscriber. I will definitely have to ask my mom to teach me how to work the seeing machine now. 👍👍👍
Bro, that cannot be that simple. Tailors in my neighborhood were trying to charge me too damn much for a simple taper but you just gave me the confidence to do it myself! Thank you!
Did you try it??
@@StylishDTailors I have my notes at the ready but have not tried it yet. Costco of all places ended up having a brand of pants (Jachs New York) with a nice tapers fit I was going for. May try sewing my old pants on my next break. Thanks again for for your helpful tips.
Surely you've tried it by now riiiiiiiight?
@@StylishDTailors "Necessity is the Mother of Invention". Fortunately, due to the Costco pants, I have not needed to cut and sew yet. The last break I had was only a few days and I ended up spending it with my son.
I bet you are a great teacher. I appreciate the follow up.
Definitely enjoy that quality time, they grow up fast!
This is very helpful!Thank you sir!
Most welcome!
Thanks👍. You made something intimidating seem easy. Ima subscribe
You're the man. Bravo.
Wow. I wish I had seen this video sooner :') I'm going to fix all of my pants now
This is smart.
Please make a tutorial on how to shorter a jeans
