I tried one of your other tutorials yesterday and the results were great so i gave this one a shot too and holy crap! Combining the 2 methods I have turned some horrible oversized jeans in to the best fitting jeans i have ever owned and with only one day of sewing experience. Iv never followed tutorials that are this easy and work out this well before. You are a true legend! Now for the rest of my wardrobe...👍
I’m female, and i couldn’t find a tutorial better than this! I consistently have an issue with jeans being too large around my waist! I’m very excited to try this out when i get home!
I can't even tell you how much i love & appreciate that you don't do the long intro nonsense (like almost every other damn youtuber does) and that you get right down to the point of the video. Oh 👏my👏god.... PRICELESS!!! THANK YOU!
I've lurked for a long time and don't even follow any of the guides provided but I'd just like to say your content has improved since I've subscribed over a year ago and still seem like a genuine guy. Still enjoying watching for the knowledge as I continue to age into manhood (I'm 26). Keep it up and stay positive in this crazy world.
I did it! It worked great! I had the same jeans and went from a 34 to a 32. I just followed the same lines Stylish D did. I watched some other RUclipsrs take apart the waistband, too much for me. I can see how that would be a much better finish but this way is great for these handmedown jeans. Thanks Stylish D!
Thank you so much. I’ve just started uni and my nanna gave me her mother’s sewing machine. I have watched plenty of videos on how to do this but yours made it seem like riding a bike 😂thank you so much!! Subscribed 100%
I have done a similar method, but I lined it up with the front pockets. Where it connects to the waistband near the zipper. And since I usually wear a belt, you'll never see the stitches. Your channel is great man. It's helped me a lot.
Really appreciate what you’re doing here. I’m not saying I’m going to whip out the needle and thread, but there is a seamstress in the village who does this kind of thing and I’d rather give her the work. You’ve made me realise my mass produced clothes can be adjusted to my shape . 👍
Man, am I glad I found this. You just saved my husband from my mistakes. I had no idea what I was doing, and was going to take them in at the sides. Thank you.
Try the jeans on before you cut the extra fabric away from the darts!! lol I know that should go without saying but you never know. Great video!! Love it!
I'm super stoked to try this out, thank you for making this tutorial!! And thank you so much for sharing your mistakes, as a perfectionist it's really great to see everyone can make mistakes, even pros!
This is short and to the point! Right down my alley-you gained a follower! I just took 3 inches off the waist of my favorite jeans doing step by step what you advised here, and boom! They fit perfectly!!!! Thank you bunches and bunches! Jesus bless you!!!
Target just had a sale in my area for the Denizen jeans for $7. Unheard of and @ 34 inch waist even! One was boot cut and the other two straight cut. Going to be watching your next VID! Thanks for this one!
Tried a saddle stitch with threadwax string. Melted the wax on the string and the finish looks awesome. I did this cuz i dont have a sweing maching, and I can have perfect taper angles. Takes a lot longer though. thanks for the tutorial
I bought jeans when I was 78 kg (Thanks to my mom who fed me like I will never get food again )and now I am 69 kg again and I am crying now. Those jeans got lose only from my waist line and everything is perfect. They are so comfortable and full stretchable and bit too costly 😭😭.
This is great! I sew on my machine 90% of the time. I've performed a great number of alterations on all types of clothing, many sizes, and styles. Watching your video made me smile and gave me a few laughs for the end of my day. Keep up the great work and the alterations! You are awesome! Enjoy the rest of your week!
I followed your instructions and I was able to adjust my waist line by taking out a couple of inches on my pants. They fit so much better. Awesome video
Thank you so much for this extremely helpful video!! I’m so glad I found your channel! I used your method to fix my daughters jeans, we were having this issue so badly with any pants/shorts/sweatpants. The waist is always huge on her, and the elastics that come on kid size jeans wasn’t enough to keep them on without scrunching the jeans and tucking at her skin because how tight they needed to be to not fall off her tall and slim frame, it was my first time sewing actual clothes or tailoring them ever, and they came out perfect! And I mean perfect!!! Thank you so much!!!! I’m going to watch all your videos and continue to tailor our clothes, you make it so simple to follow and doable!! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us!! 😃😃😃
Yes!!! I was on the fence about starting alterations on my jeans but after reading your comment I am absolutely going to try. My daughter has the EXACT same problem. For her the legs are too short or the waist is too loose...there is no in-between. Don't even get me started on those horrific elastic bands! 😂 So what the heck? 🤷♀️ I'll be the test subject. If I can figure it out on mine I'll try it on hers. Lol.
I came across this and you make it look so simple and very easy to understand (love your humor too), man you need to be on pbs sewing tv. I'm hard pressed to spend the kind of money they want for jeans and I'd have to alter them anyway, (38w28L try and find that kind of jean without breaking the bank). I have always liked sewing, not good at it (hobby) but you give me confidence. You have a subscriber in me. Thanks for sharing. Will follow up after I hem, bring in the waist (2 inches) and try to taper them.
Tailoring clothes is so underrated. I found a 3x polo at goodwill that i made my size. Now thanks to you i know how to do it to jeans. Thanks for sharing.. liked and subscribed 🤝🏽
Omg I finally found the right video 😭😭😭 All of the other videos use elastic tapes (that I don't have) or sewing and then pulling but the thread would break 😭 Thank you so much!
Thank you... so much.... all the tutorials were about resizing girls' jeans but those are softer and lighter than men's jeans... thanks to u now I can resize my brother's jeans into my size❤
I had to subscribe. I am having a real problem with the consistency of fit of my Wrangler slim fit jeans. Only one out of three will fit just right. The others are usually too big and sometimes too small. Very good video!
This is a great way of taking in the waist, and a fabulous explanation. Could I suggest you have your needle in the centre position rather than to the left? It’s easier to sew accurately.
Never thought of darting the waist, that's brilliant! Now if I can just figure out how to take in the inseam without getting dimples and wrinkles around my crotch
Question! I've taken in the taper and waist on a pair of pants that were just a little too big, and while they fit much better, now I still have a little too much extra around the groin/butt lol. Any advice or recs? Maybe a narrow outside taper? Love all your videos, and thank you so much for the inspiration 🙏
You know whats funny SD I was avoiding my jeans because I didnt want to take out the flat felt seam down the center back of the pants and this just helped me with that problem JUST WHEN I NEEDED THE HELP LOL
Possible idea for another video: I have a pair of ski pants that are too long. These pants have padded knees-- so hemming them at the bottom just won't do, as doing so would turn the knee pads into shin pads. I need to shorten them by about 2-3 inches at the lower thigh level. And they have full-length side zippers that run along the entire outside of the pant leg that will also need to be changed out. These zippers are also 2-way zippers. Thank you and good luck with your channel.
Live your tutorials! Easy to understand and follow. And fun! Question : how do you taper mens winter pants. ? The ones that are lined with flannel. It looks like the lining is tacked at the crotch and sewn into the pockets . So it can’t be removed but can pull lining up to get to seams on the jeans. Fabric is canvas. Thanks
Tried it with my cheap $19.95 jeans that I only wear in the garage anyway. Worked! I used an overlock to then secure the stitching, we will see how long it lasts 🤣 Now on to shorten them and thinning out the boot cut!
You are the man! I had yo buy 36 because I couldn't find 35. But I won't cut my darts, because menopause keeps making my tummy bigger. The joys of being a woman.
Thank you for this informative video. It makes me curious. To get a better fit below the waist (so it doesn't bubble out), how about removing the stitching of the pockets (enough to fold them back) and make a longer taper to the bottom of the pockets and resewing the pockets back. In your opinion, would that make the butt too tight?
Where does Stylish D stores all his videos? In an SD Card! ba dum tss Great job! I'm a huge fan, you helped me tailoring my shirts. Keep on doing great content, you deserve more subscribers.
Do you think you could make a video on making clothes bigger in some areas? I've got pretty skinny legs, but a wider waist, so its really tough to find clothes that fit well
Hey D! I have an all too common problem with almost all my jeans I've ever had: Eventually, the front pockets WILL tear. I know this is a tailoring channel, but in the spirit of DIY, a guide with some common repairs on jeans like creating and inserting new pockets, stylishly patching tears with denim, buttons and zipper replacement etc.
I don’t own a single pair of jeans but I have a lot of shorts that are loose at the waist and I hate belts. This looks like it could work. I have a lot of power tools but not a sewing machine. I’ll have to do by hand. If it works, thanks a million
Brilliant tutorial once again. Just a question however, at the end you said "no need to finish it try them on see how you feel about them". Assuming they are the fit you wanted, would you proceed to zig zag stitch to stop fraying and if so there was no tolerance left to zig zag stitch so what would you advise. Thank you :D
Thanks for this tutorial- I have a pair of jeans I want to make into a skirt and I first need to take in the waist.. this is the perfect way to do it without disrupting the flow of the skirt. Cool tutorial, funny and informative :D
