    Thank you so much! My mom is a seamstress but i never learned to sew. During covid she came to see me and we found a wonderful Singer sewing machine (with the original sewing kit, with bobbins, dethreader, feet)at the goodwill for $20. I learned to make masks, and have taken in clothes. Attempted a quilt for grandaughter, etc. However, although my mom is a pro she never taught me this way of taking in pants. Makes me wonder if she knows how. Maybe ill show her something when she visits me again. She is 93. So God willing we have many more visits. Ty once again!

    First timer here✋🏾and I must say your instructions were spot on! Managed to take in one side of my jeans. It took less than 10 mins to do. I used normal sewing thread but doubled it up and just took my time when pulling it all in. Thank you 👍🏾

    do you divide the 1 1/2 inch in half and take up on both sides to equal that amount or do you do the whole 1 1/2 on just the one side.

    • @SewingatHomeMom
      @SewingatHomeMom  4 месяца назад +3

      Yes, I divide the 1 1/2 inch in half and take up on both sides to equal that amount. This way the jean alteration, after it's done will look nice, symmetrical and fit properly. That is the best practice when taking in waist on jeans at the side seams area. If you want to take in waist on jeans in one place only, than it's often best to take in at the center back. Hope this helps! 🙂

    What about the side with the tiny pocket? There isnt as much room.

    • @buhlekomape4124
      @buhlekomape4124 3 месяца назад

      Exactly my question! Do we alter one side only and leave the side with small pocket?

    • @SewingatHomeMom
      @SewingatHomeMom  3 месяца назад +4

      If the small side pocket is very close to the side seam or the amount of fabric that needs to be taken in is greater than the small space between the side seam and the small pocket, alternatively taking in waist on the side seams, is taking in waist at the back centre seam on each side of the double stitch with same stitch technique. Hope this helps! 🙂

    Can you do the same thing around the thigh area of jeans? Is there a specific video on that? I have some jeans that I want to make tighter around the thigh area because I have really skinny thighs. The jeans I have fit me good but I want them to be tighter around the thighs… Any help would be much appreciated!

  • @seemysparkle

    I guess I need to start with a tutorial on how to do the needle and thread.
    I do not understand how you only put a knot on one side of the thread and the needle pulls through without detaching from the thread if only one end is tied🤔

    • @SewingatHomeMom
      @SewingatHomeMom  3 месяца назад +1

      Sounds like you might benefit from my recently uploaded tutorial about this topic. It's about making a sewing starting knot and ending knot, plus I talk about the single and 2 string thread and the needle , hand sewing and stitching.

    Do you do anything to "finish" the inside? is that chunk of fabric irritating to wear?

    • @SewingatHomeMom
      @SewingatHomeMom  4 месяца назад +1

      This is a very good question🙂 Simply, I don't. Mainly because I use this method only when I'm in time squeeze and I need to temporarily and fast take in the waist on jeans, skirt, etc. I like to alter my clothes permanently and for that reason I would do a professional jeans take in waist alterations as you can see it in this in-depth video: ruclips.net/video/tH0WH6QJdsM/видео.html

    Hey!...how do you deal with that little 5th pocket that jeans have? Do you cut out, work around it, etc? THANKS!!!

    • @SewingatHomeMom
      @SewingatHomeMom  Месяц назад +1

      I would work around it - if possible - but that's me.
      Usually there are few factors to consider beforehand, for example: by how many inches you need to decrease the waist, are you taking the waist in temporarily or permanently. How thick is the fabric that you're working on. How much the inside bulk of the excess fabric bothers you after you take the pants waist in - things like that. As you see, it REALLY depends on each piece.Hope this helps 🙂

    Are the jeans comfortable like this? I might try this, but I am concerned that the crimped part of the denim will be uncomfortable. Has anyone tried it?

    • @jbjalexander1440

      I did it a few years ago and they were my favorite jeans! By far the most comfortable because of how well they fit me. I was only 13 at the time so I sadly grew out of them and I’m just now doing it again

    Would this work on trousers as well?

    • @SewingatHomeMom
      @SewingatHomeMom  Месяц назад

      Yes, it should. But keep in mind this sewing technique is suggested more for a temporary and easy-quick fix. If you're interested in more tailored look for your trousers, it's suggested to do the take in waist at the centre back of the trousers. The alteration does look complicated but with step by step tutorial, it can be done. It's suggested (in sewing) always try the garment on to see if it fits properly before you decide to cut any fabric off.

    I find very difficult to sew the upper part where the belt loops are, and when I try to pull the thread in the end it breaks anyway, and I am using embroidery thread. What am I doing wrong 😢 it is very difficult to sew this thicker part of the belt loops area 😭😭😭

    • @juliecollman1629

      Use dental floss. Also pull as you sew instead of just at the end.
