Thanks so much for this! I'm not good at sewing but tried this today on a pair of heavy weight wide legged jeans and they came out great, despite the denim being much thicker. Took about an hour and a half, I used embroidery thread and tightened in sections rather than leaving it all until the end, then ironed over the new seams to help the thick denim lay flatter just to finish it off.
Awesome! I’ve watched other videos about how to hem with the original hemline and I like to sew but it looked a bit tedious. Just the still of this video made it look doable with one photo. Thanks!

Wow, I have three pairs of jean overalls that need to be shortened so will definitely be giving this a try. Thanks for the clever tip! Thought I would come back and let you know that this did indeed work but not exactly as shown for me. I used a heavy weight top stitching thread for the lacing stitches. I could not just pull the thread at the end but instead had to start at the beginning and work the thread around by pulling the stitches individually. On the second leg I left a longer tail so was able to pull the thread from both ends and knot them together which worked better. I then pressed the hem and stitched it down in the inside with long stitches about 1” apart. Will definitely use this technique again as no cutting and sewing machine needed.
I have sewn just about all my life and I’m in my 70s. I only found out about this amazing stitch recently. And every time a video comes up showing this I find myself watching it because I am so astonished that it actually works. I’ve probably spent months of sewing time hemming things. Not for me because I have long legs, but for my mother and my son and my ex-husband. They all have relatively short legs and I spent so much time rehemming things for them.

I found it works great for jeans, but not so much for thiner material, as it creates some waviness all around the hem and doesn't let the legs sit naturally. Might be that I'm not the best at sewing straight lines, so it might be it... hopefully this helps!

I do the same but I cut the doubled over and then put bias binding as a hem finish, otherwise I find it a bit bulky, depends on the thickness...but I do have a sewing machine although for the hem finish I sew by hand..thanks for that anyway! 🎉😊important to press really well the join.
I get the 1st part of the stiching and pulling it tight to get it up, amazing, but i dont gdt the second part with the other leg? Can someone please explain to me. Thanks
Like the reply above me says, the second bit of stitching is to keep the flap in place. That way, you won’t see it poking out from the bottom of the jeans and it will be more comfortable to put on/wear. The stitch they are using for that (blind hem stitch) also keeps the thread on that seam pretty invisible from the outside while still keeping its functionality.

Have to go back be regular cut and hem by machine bottom is plain so will not lose nice jean thread look. But if anyone as idea to make easier. @@katm6086 if your looking for cheap and fast and not exactly perfect, use hem tape, or you can cut the 6 inches off leaving room for hem, and fold the bottom to hem them, nobody really looks at the bottoms of your pants while at work, there are a lot of ways I shorten and hem pants but depends on what type of material, what worn for, where worn, occasion ect, if its a good nice pair for church or dinner dates or whatever I would not cut corners and properly trim and hem them but if you want quick and easy fix, fold them right side out up to length you need once, fold the hem down to right side out and sew the inside and outside seams to hold in place and use hem tape for the rest, insta stick or iron on , it really does not matter. Wish I could upload a visual to this comment
Я уже пользовалась этим методом. Это ОЧЕНЬ неудобно. И при ходьбе выделяется. Я всё нафиг срезала, так что без ножниц не обошлось. Обычный способ более правильный, да и возни меньше.

Sure! This technique works best when the measurement at the chalk line and the one at the hem are similar, i.e. when the pant leg is more rectangular than flared, but you could still theoretically manage it if the flare is greater. The end result of a greater flare with this technique would be more puckered/gathered-looking since you’d be putting a larger circle into a smaller one.

I don’t think my eyeballs ever bulged out like that when I saw the first time she pulled the thread tightly. I’m 4’10” and it’s a struggle. I only wear skorts because nothing ever fits me
До конца-то досмотрели или так, фоткой с превью ограничились? Никуда не девать, оно остается внутри, закрепляется только, чтоб не болталось. Никакой не трюк, способ вполне годится для плотных брюк и/или если лишнего не слишком много.
I need something for that as well! I have some that are too long but last time I brought one to a seamstress, they made the seamstress look so awful, just this flat stitched border. Nothing like it was. And it cost more than the pants were 😭 It's why I'm considering learning this stuff myself.
I’ve done this on two pairs of slightly flared trousers (kind of wide straight legged) and they look great! Just not perfectly lined up with the original stitching.
After you sew together the top and the bottom parts, and achieve the final length, you will be left with the extra portion of the pant that you needed to remove. The problem is that it will be just hanging freely on the inside and flapping around as you wear the pants, feeling uncomfortable and giving the jeans a weird balloon look. The purpose of that last stitch line is to secure that flap and prevent it from moving around.

I'm very disappointed there are several different videos on how to shorten a pair of jeans but there's not one video that I can find on how to shorten some legging type pants My daughter's pants are way too long but I don't want to permanently cut them because I'm sure she will grow into the length

After a while and so many washes... the fold inside will put a "mark" o. The visible outside of the denim...

Its knitting thread and a knitting needle, the regular sewing thread is not strong when pulled .

What kind of threaad are you using on the pink thread? Looks like a thicker embroidery thread.

И при глажке это утолщенное место становится видным. Тоже когда-то давно пробовала так укоротить джинсы. Лучше подшивать классическим способом.

Well, an interesting method; but if you have a sewing machine, it is possible to get a better looking pair of hemmed jeans in less time!

Отличный метод только я бы вторую часть сделала бы не так а срезала лишнее изнутри. Колбасу не хочется оставлять. Толсто очень

I did this too, but I used glue gun, it was very warm in the winter because the extra fabric trapped the wind from entering your legs
