I remember years ago, I played Heroscape with a bunch of my friends one day. Three out of four of us made a secret alliance to take out this one player who won EVERY game we ever played. We should've steam rolled him, except that he used Ne-Gok-Sa and the Shades of Bleakewoode to take control of our units in order to make up for his losses. We finally beat him, but not after taking heavy casualties from the Abomination he managed to Soul Devour using his last Shade of Bleakewoode. Good times.
Agent Carr! Can move through all figures, never attacked when leaving engagement, gets 6 attack dice when adjacent, has a gun AND a giant sword, and he looks like Samuel L. Jackson. Nothing but upside. :-)
Yeah, Carr is awesome. I also liked Sergeant Drake Alexander, if only because of his name and that AWESOME grappling hook gun. Also, the WWI soldiers that parachute in mid-game and throw grenades everywhere were fun, too.
Yes Agent Carr is totally the best. I like him more than Drake Alexander as his base attack his ranged so you can get bonuses from height and glyphs. Plus he looks awesome.
Oh, yeah, I know. I just like Sergeant Drake Alexander (I always say his FULL name) because of his awesome name and his cool mini.

Which mini are you talking about RotV or SotM? They are both pretty cool, I am more likely to draft the original though as the cost is much less and he is still powerful.
Rise of the Valkyrie. Honestly, I didn't know there were different versions.
I love Braxas a lot as well, she has an interesting effect, and having a black dragon is a cool aesthetically in addition to being the only girl dragon. I also like that Kee-Mo-Shi is a girl too. All the dragons and all the Marro are interesting.
Some of my favorite common squads are the 4th Massachusetts and 10th Regiment, I love their look and mechanics. 10th are underrated in non-Valiant armies. But even more than those, I love the Zombies of Morrindan, moving them in groups and turning your opponent's figures into zombies is great.
I'm getting into repainting figures to see if I can make an alternative look for Syvarris and Raelin, who I use with my zombies.

My favorites off the top of my head would be (in no order)-
Braxas, dwarves, wolves(love high variance characters), phantom knights, hydra. Used to play in the big Dallas competitive scene and one of these units made my army every time.
My fav by far is Sonlen the wizard. Move:5, Range:6, Attack:4,Defense:3. But what I love is his abilities; every time he moves if he rolls a 15 or higher (20 sided die) he can heal one wound, As well he can deal one wound to any hero within 4 spaces.
Thanos is such an underrated unit. He's overpowered. His range is 6, his attack is 6, his defense is 7, and he can fly. Plus, when he dies, you get to roll a a D-20 and bring him back if you roll a 19 or 20 (18 if you have the glyph of lodin.) He came back 4 times and wiped out not only the entire castle but also the entire damn board. He's even more dangerous when he has height advantage as his attack and defense dice increase and has a good amount of health at 6. He is expensive to get at 360 points but honestly, it is worth it as getting him will cost your opponents more in the long run.

I love the Suzuki Samurai; 5 defense, and any excess shields you roll inflict wounds on the opponent!

There's 4 samurai squads, Izumi, Kozuke, Tagawa, and Tagawa Samurai Archers.
I spent a few years stalking ebay mercilessly till I was able to get ahold of at least on of every heroscape figure produced. Twas expensive (especially since I didn't start collecting till after they quit making it). My personal favorite units are the Dwarves. I love running Migol Ironwill and Mogrimm Forgehammer followed by a few squads of Axegrinders. If there's the points available (though I"ve found it's generally not all that point effective) is to beef up Migol using Finn and Thorgrim to make Migol even more survivable.
Overall though, the best unit in the game has to Raelin. Nearly all tournament winning armies include her (ROTV version) due to her +2 defense being so powerful.
Now how the hell do you manage to call Braxas a guy when it says 'QUEEN' right there on her card?

I got most of my Heroscape stuff at Walmart in the Clearance section back in the mid 2000's.

Mine was Drake Alexander and his Paratroopers. Any time I'm building an army, those two are a hallmark.
A general unit that I use are either the Colonials or the Redcoats (or sometimes both).
When are you going to do another live play-through of this game?
My favorite guy is Mimring. It's so satisfying to roast three guys at once, not to mention how awesome he looks.

Agent Carr is super cool and pretty powerful for just 100.
Ne-Gok-Sa is awesome for his mind shackle 20, how I wish for the character with mind shacked 19-20! I don't now how many times I've rolled a nineteen and failed!!
My absolutely top squad is the Marro Warriors, many times it has come down to the wire and I am left with them against a superior opponent's army, and with cloning they (almost) always come out on top!
Definitely my favourite game and I have big hopes for the new Magic the Gathering board game.
I love this game. There was a period of about a year where I played it every day with my son. We even built a gaming table specifically to play this game. Now I've got a shitload of terrain tiles I'm trying to unload. Great game, the thing that killed it was too much set up a tear down.
Sergeant Drake is affordable and gets a good grapple, Krav Maga agents due to their dodge, and any samurai units with a counter-attack are good too.
I know theyre not the best but I always loved the Airborne elite and grimnak

I usually used heroscape terrain stacked double for a semi-miniatures version of battletech.. (hexes for range and movement but actual line of sight based on terrain) I think I've played heroscape once and wasn't thrilled with it. but could see it was a nice and quick system.
Finally picked up a complete original master set. It's obtainable folks, just gotta be patient and persistent to find those occasional "deals". Snagged mine for the original MSRP plus $15 for shipping.
I used to be in love with this game when I was a kid, mostly for the building aspect, and never truly played the game. I happened upon this video and am now regretting not asking for more expansions. xD Might become an expensive hobby shortly...
It has been too long since I've played this game. I don't have a huge collection, but from what I have I do have a few favorites.
Sentinels of Jandar, Shaolin Monks, Anubian Wolves were all great. I like the 4th Massachusetts line as well.
I like the 4th for their "Wait then fire rule" which added to their theme. I remember there was a Roman unit that I liked for their thematic rules as well. I don't think either one put out a whole lot of punishment, but thematically I liked them.
I also liked Syvarris for the awesomeness that he was.
Ne-Gok-Sa I liked as well. Cool mini and he had mind shackle. Always liked taking marro warriors with him to have a nice big unit.
Wyvern is my personal favorite because you can just carry small units into water where you can just mow them down with major q-10 for example
Krug was not part of the base set. I pulled out my heroscape stuff so I could teach my son and realize that I never unpacked one of my boxes (I had pulled out the dice and turn markers, but the figures are still in the original plastic and the terrain is untouched).
10.I agree with you about the snipers, BUT the snipers seem to be one of the better common ranged squads in the game (i personally own three units i liked them so much), and while they may be a little pricey, they can cut down heroes like little lawnmowers
9. Ah yes, Braxas, the bane of my existence. Darn no-good dragon always melting my squads!!! But in all seriousness, Braxas is a beast, and she always makes me nervous when someone field's her!
8. Jotun i guess is one of those units that are fun to play as, but are somewhat hard to use (i have terrible luck using him).
7. Unfortunately a very expensive unit to find on eBay, so he has never found his way into either mine or my friend's collections :\
6. Same with KEE-MO-SHI; can't use her if you don't have her! On a similar note though, a friend of mine was playing his first ever game of heroscape, and rolled 2 20's in a row with Ne-Gok-Sa's mindshackle; the chances of that btw, are 1/400
5. Iron Man has always been one of my favorite marvel characters, he's on the less expensive end of the superheroes, but still has a lot of firepower!
4. Dan is one character i've wanted for a long time, but have never managed to find for a good price, his range is amazing, and that Ullar's enhanced rifle would be super deadly against expensive Kyrie squads!
3. The shades have never invaded any battlefield of mine, so I have nothing i can say for or against them.
2. Long has this elf been used in our battles, and many a foe has been slain by him. A really good and really reliable unit (although I usually pick Kaemon Awa instead).
1. KRUG!!!!! I actually just bought Krug off of eBay, and have yet to use him, but I shall VERY SOON, and i am looking forward to smashing some units!

Sadly the game had a tad to much cosim and at the same time luck for my taste, but it was quite an experienced (played all but the last rule book mission).

I still have a bunch of Heroscape.
These lists are nice, but maybe you shouldn't stack all of them together. Though, they are short, so maybe not worth it to post them separately. But it will generate more excitement :) You should probably name them a bit differently, so they want be confused with the regular top 10s. And maybe even pick a day of week for them. Like post 3 of them every Wednesday (don't know how many of them are planned). This will make viewers anticipate the Wednesday like they anticipate Boardgame breakfast every Monday and Live Plays every (almost) Friday, and will anticipate Zee's Blender show in the future :)
I like paring Krug with the Orcish Archers... (Because beast bonding.)

+lego fanatic 22 There is no limit, you're entire team can consist of heroes; BUT their cumulative point value cannot exceed 700 (If you're doing a 1v1 game)

theres no rule saying games have to be for 700 points. People play different points all the time. 500 points is a lot more common in tournaments that I've seen

Look it up online! Heroscapers.com. You can play online too using Google Docs. PM me (MegaSilver) on the site for more details if you wish.
You can also play Heroscape online using Tabletop simulator, there is a basic workshop mod for it.
Edward Sherriff True, but everything's already ready to go with the OHS App. And there are online tournaments using it. It's easy to use as well.
Tommy Adams Well I suppose it depends on what you value more; an automated 2D environment suited to tournament play, or a full 3D simulation where you can build and save terrain, chuck dice and move models around. Granted the TS mod doesn't include 3D models for all the figurines yet but it definitely has potential.

Agree, but Krug was first and his blade is composed of the melted armor of enemies (Knights of Weston, I'm sure) he crushed in battle. Too cool.

I find it frustrating you're doing a top 10 list for something that is unobtainable.
Its obtainable, just very expensive now.
Ironic that it's expensive, cuz when they stopped making them, they were dirt cheap. I got two base sets for 20$ and a lot of the expansions for on the cheap at walmart where they were just trying to get rid of them.
Honestly, the reason it failed is that the fun of the game came only in the complex rules, yet, for those willing to learn, most of them were probably playing Warhammer or even more complex games. That, and it took VERY long to set up, and the casual version wasn't nearly as a fun, so you ended up with a game that didn't quite have a target audience. It tried to please casuals and hardcore, so you just ended up not pleasing either, save the few hardcore people that just happened to like the flavor of it.
@@poego6045 they said it was cancelled due to the sheer amount of plastic that was used, and Petroleum prices went up and 3D printing wasn't as accessible as it is now. The rumor is that Hasbro is revamping the series next year
