New players for a game that ended printing in 2009. That’s awesome. Once things calm down in the world I’d be happy to play with anyone that wants to battle
Thank you so much! I really like this kind of videos. Maybe in the future you could do more videos with tips on how to play specific armies, for example Arrow Gruts/Beasts army, Deathchaser army or Elemental army. Just a suggestion, I’d really enjoy that
I only play casually at home and only have RoTV and 2 unit packs from wave 1. It seems common units are extremely powerful but also hard to get a hold of. Should I even bother trying to pick some up for my home games or would that just make things imbalanced if I can't get enough for everyone to run 15+ units? That seems like a crazy number to need when they are $5-$15 for each set even when 3d printed.

Have you shown you whole collection? I am gradually acquiring so I can at least have one figure of each squad. I also have tons of figures I want to make custom cards, need to know how to calculate stats and point value based on the skills. Cheers. I follow you since your beginnings. From Puerto Rico. My husband and I love Heroscape.
It is also helpful to give new players an experienced general (person) to advise them if possible with a good bonding army to get the feel for how the figures work together.
Are there any other scenarios besides the ones in the rise of the valkyrie master set that use Glyph of Brandar (artifact)? I usually just use them as teleporters or capture the flag.
Maxson At The Fort what are your favorite combinations for bonding? I’m partial to the gorillanators and Nikita agents although there are other probably better combinations
4 would give you a 4th turn then. You only get 3 turns in each round. The X is absolutely essential in competitive play. Much more impactful than it may seem.
1v1 400 to 500 points max, premade balanced armies to choose from. Themed armies works well. Also choose armies with classic move-->attacks turns like classic bonding not very weird stuff.
People have to have an affinity to the type of gaming that Heroscape is, so before I try and play a game with someone I always ask them a couple quesitons: 1. Have you ever played D&D? 2. Have you ever played Chess, Risk, Warhammer 40K? 3. Do you like Fantasy stuff like LOTR, Harry Potter, Dragons etc? Once I've gotten a bit of a sense of their interest/experience in those things, it makes it a lot easier to introduce them. If they haven't really played or are familiar with the above than it's not super likely they'll "get" heroscape but they may still like it...BUT if they like or play any of the above than I use that to build off of the introduction of heroscape...because heroscape is a little bit of all those games and has all kinds of fantasy themes that a lot of people can relate to. But first I want to understand where their "nerdiness" is at.
The online tournament sounds amazing. I’m not sure I will be able to devote the time to participate in the tournament because of my newborn son; however if anyone would like to crush a newbie I would love to play Heroscape. I have not played an online game before so I’ll need to get my pc set up with that. Is it possible to play an online game over a series of sessions? As in play for a bit, put the game down (save it) and then resume at a later time.
For the arv map contest, do you have to use every piece of the set? Because I'm missing two 1 hex pieces of swamp but that's it. And also for the online tournament, do you have to buy online heroscape?
@@SirHeroscape unless this video is geared toward online play or people who already have a large collection, how can a person afford to have 15 of a common squad at today’s after-market prices? Customs or stand-ins, perhaps?
Hey Sir Heroscape, good video tho I'm disagreeing quite a lot on your 120 points hero rule. Some armies based around a big strong hero like greenscales or TKN, or Q9 pods are very strong, people won tournaments with TKN (dok did, I did). Which is important in those armies is to know how to make damage without risking the hero life too much. But honestly they are not hard to pilot. I usually prefer to have one Big bonding hero than multiples small ones who force me to like separate my forces, except for bonding Heroes who are very passive like Nerak for example. Also heroes at under than 100points who requires OM are almost unplayable in competitive with tons of commons, they are used only for cleaning up at the end if the game is close but other than that they are pretty useless. And finally the 15 figure is a good tip but nowadays almost all tournaments have a 16 figures limit in addition to the 24 hexs limit so running 5x the same common is not possible. Other than that very very good tips.
I agree with you...but keep in mind, this is the “basic” version. As you get more advanced, of course TKN becomes a fun and useful unit to pilot...but for a newbie it’s all too easy to exploit their inexperience. So this “fundamental” should help newer players not invest too much into individual figures or run too “shy” on common squads. I would also point out that TKN is more of a reverse the whip type army build. He’s not A tier so playing him also largely depends on the format. Same goes for the commons rule. In a standard, 500pt army with 24 hexes these apply pretty well for newbies.
I think you need to work on more concisely communicating what you want to get across. You don't get to any of your main points until almost 8 minutes into the video. Also, if you're going to make this video for beginning players, you should show them what you're referring to, visually. If you want to bring up elves, bring up a picture of an elf card and highlight the relevant text. If you want to talk about rats and their ability to "screen", go into detail about the game mechanics that allow that to function (some people don't know about engagement/disengagement abilities) Most of your time is spent talking directly to the camera. To make best use of the video medium, you should be including a lot more visual info. This could've easily just been a text/picture post on a forum.
I've been playing since Rise of the Valkyrie was released casual play with friends mostly and never heard of your 15/120 rule. Sadly most of my common squads I only have 2 or three of. This is one I disagree with I've had success with 3 squads of Gladiators plus Spartacus and Crixus, and would rather play with 3 squads microcorps with Realin and Laglor than 5 squads of Microcorps.
Well, Spartacus, Crixus and Glads X3 is the “Steamroller” build and one of the exceptions. Generally speaking though, you’ll want at least 4 squads of your bread and butter unit in order to have enough figures to last you the game. Not to say fewer squads can’t ever be effective, they just can’t be AS effective as having more squads - generally speaking.

I’m a new player, just bought a used set online and I’m really excited to start learning how to play :)

pretty sweet map!!! any link to the design?

Q9 >= 120 points. So which other units are >120 points and still recommended to take competitively? TY
TONS of units haha. But largely depends on if you’re talking C3V included and in what formats
Great. Makes sense! Maybe you can mention in a future video which core >= 120 points are worth the risk of the extra cost.
Excellent tips! Thanks!
Do you have a link to the site that you guys will be using for the tournament?
bishop 2003 you can find the interface at heroscapers.com/ohs
Nice video!
My two tips I go by are bonding and height advantage. They tend to get me victory 7/10 times.😅
Maxson At The Fort what are your favorite combinations for bonding? I’m partial to the gorillanators and Nikita agents although there are other probably better combinations
Death Chasers 100%
@@vaultnurse3365 Knights and Death Chasers all the way. They're both so versatile for bonding that you can mix it up really well.

They’re custom made and are a prize for the map contest we’re running
I used to play a long time ago with friends, and I want to play again but it’s so expensive
I really don't understand how the X marker can 'fake out' your opponent. Why not just have the marker say 4 on it.

@@SirHeroscape oh so the x marker isn't a turn its just a decoy marker?
@@The.Master71-73 correct. That said, there are some units that use the X order Marker for activating special abilities…see Siege and Evar Scarcarver

always have a map set up in your house. with figures displayed.
My tip is let them win the first few games, just don't make it obvious.😂
What about the common attack +1 surely that's in the same boat as Unique attack +1?
Not even remotely. Common Attack +1 is OP and shouldn’t be in a competitive glyph pool.
I would personally like to see mitonsoul in tournament. It would be fun. Although it probably would not make sense in a competitive format.
@@SirHeroscape so what treasure glyphs are classed as competitive play?
Pon subtitulos en tus videos porque casi no te entiendo
I’ll have to look into it, I haven’t added subtitles before though or even a translate option. I just assumed it was available already

Yes you can save and resume. No worries if you can’t make the tourney this time around. Depending on how it goes, we may do another one of these

No purchase necessary and sorry I missed your question because The contest is now closed :-(
Sir heroscape how do we submit our maps to the ARV
Also if we are doing the tournament on our computer should we get discord on our computer or other device
Are you familiar with heroscapers.com?
And yes Discord on your computer would be fine.
Less than 15 of a common squad? In 2022? How?
Huh? Not sure I take your meaning?
