Completely on point considering it was 44 years ago. No surprise it was used for Lord Merlin in Pursuit of Love. Superb reprisal and I for one glad it brings this to a new audience.
Only Marc could sing a 'POP' song about Greek mythology and pull it off so well, crikey I miss you Marc... I was 17 when you died and I will think of you every day of my life...
This track played perfectly in ' The Pursuit of Love ' Perfect that Bohemian Eccentricity, Love T Rex ,Marc Bolan such a sexy Cat ,along with T/Rex , what a Tune .💚😘🎶🎸
Whatever the truth, this is a fantastic live version and Marc plays a fab solo too. The mood of this particular Bolan classic IS one of melancholy...........such a timeless slice of Bolan. Delf n Kaz x
He was only 29 there, barely 4 years after his great wave, of course he could still cut it.. he didn‘t go on a hiatus for ages. If he only had lived longer, I‘m sure he‘d stuck around in the charts for a long time
The album cut is fantastic and holds up to his 70-73 material. The only thing that could have "improved it" in my opinion was if he had put the solo he plays here live on the album cut. I 100% agree with you in regards to the single version he released in order to omit "cocaine" from the song though. That one sounds hollow and poppy for some reason. Nonetheless, Bolan rocks and there were great tracks on the Dandy album.
He knew how to perform-it's great to see him with all his different antics & his persona change naow & then. His wonderful music ability stayed with us-thank you for posting.
Prince of Players, Pawn of none Born with steel reins on the heart of the Sun Gypsy explorer of the New Jersey Heights Exalted companion of cocaine nights 'Cos he's a Dandy in the Underworld Dandy in the Underworld When will he come up for air, Will anybody ever care At an old eighteen exiled he was To the deserted kingdoms of a mythical Oz Distraction he wanted, to destruction he fell Now he forever stalks the ancient Mansions of hell Now his lovers have left him And his youth's ill spent He cries in the dungeons and tries to repent But change is a monster and changing is hard But he'll freeze away his summers in his Underground yard
@#WalkAwayI agree! "Teenage nights or heights" or whatever he says makes him sound like a paedo! And it wasn't his fault either, it was the powers that be that thought the word COCAINE was too controversial at the time - Really? Similar to The Stones when they had to change "Lets spend the NIGHT together" to "time" together to appease the American audiences and controversy - what a joke!
Very good. I love T.Rex. But the original text was "cocaine-nights" and not "T.Rex-nights". On my LP from 1977 he was still singing about "cocain-nights". Let´s dream about the good old times and fly a little bit through the cocaine nights
you lot make me laugh you havnt got a clue this man was the king of punk rock this is where it all started this man was well before his time his musis was far advanced of others I remember his death even though I was very young what a sad loss and for your information he was not a junkie just to put that comment straight .rip marc.
Super great! The kids got really great song for guide them in the world! I love that what people done and accepted then! Marc really hit the jack pot in my mind when ever I seen that first time! Super! All the best! I'm just only a guitar player who looking all the people for make many shows with me, come money too! I push thumbs up! Feels by Assa!
Marc Bolan was such a tiny guy, like Angus and Malcom and Bon (of AC/DC) they were all tiny, so we’re their fingers, maybe that had to do something with their mastering their instruments (Bon of course playing the recorder in “Fraternity” his final pre AC/DC band.
And didn't old Bon play bagpipes on It's A Long way To The Top? I think AC/DC was an opening act on one of Bolan's '76 or '77 TV shows, can't remember which, maybe that Rollin' Bolan special. Anyway, I really love this performance of Dandy.
"All his lovers have left him and his youth's ill-spent, so he cries in the dungeon and tries to repent." - Amazing poetry.
That lines always makes me freeze

That scene was amazing. I’ve rediscovered the song amd Marc.
I'm here because of Andrew Scott
Really great and i like him and his larry the lamb type voice
Amen! 🙌✨

No one will ever compare. Ever. I wish I'd been around for this.
I still love this live version so much… just brilliant to see… even 45 years later ❤️🙏🎶
“Will anyone ever care?” We do. Thank you Marc ❤️

When Andrew Scott arrived in the scene with this playing I was in ecstasy, I'm not even exaggerating, this song is pure heaven
I am Bolan fan for many years. but I have never heard such a guitar solo of him....
Excellent!!! Solo
It's OK...but restrained for sure
Can't Believe this was his last Record. Keep a little Marc in your heart😧😙
Marc is the main man, a great track, very sad he is no longer here :o(
It's a tragedy that he died so young.

f-in brilliant - love that he could still cut it in 77. Much better live than I thought he was! Why is this song not more famous?

Marc singing his own epitaph.
He's fabulous, my generation needs someone like him!
He was incredible, It was heartbreaking when he died, for a 17 year old fan absolutely heartbreaking.
I think Prince is a modern artist in the same vein
@@randyrhodes7137 Right on! "Cream" by Prince seemed almost like a T-Rex tribute.
Well prince is no more either..
If I could be that i would but rn im just some guy
This guy was so far ahead of his time.....
My thoughts exactly! Marc was amazing.
Yes, he was a genius.
there is no ahead of time, only inside of time, and outside of time.
King of Glam Rock, voice of an angel!
A music icon who knows what other
masterpieces he would have written
If he had not been taken so tragically !!!!
This version of "Dandy" is by far the best he ever did, great song but all other versions are just too light weight compared to this live recording.
The most underrated British rock icon of all time

Mark Bolan's writings lyrics were often separated from the real world , but this song’s lyrics seems as if were clearing up his life.
