    Assuming the generator is 110 volt yes 2 conductor14awg would be fine. However instead of using romex I would use SOOW cord with a male plug on the end.

    Can I assume that this is parallel wiring of multiple outlets? If so I assume the first one in the line, that also has the feed wire from load center is per this example the second would be similar to the first and the last one wouldn't have the pigtails/splices and the three wires would just hook directly to the hot, neutral and ground screws. Is that correct?

    You mentioned that the wires running through walls should be in middle (1 1/4 inch from front/back) of the stud... how much from floor should the holes for wires be?

    • @Tyrone3340
      @Tyrone3340  10 лет назад

      there is no requirement for how high or low you drill the holes . It is a good idea to drill the hole for the stud holding your box at least 10 inches above or below where you mount your box so you can get a strap 6 inches from the box

    Hello again Tyrone, I have a single outlet coming from the breaker panel in my garage which is a GFCI and would like to add two or three more single outlets from that GF, If I come off of that GF can I pigtail the rest of the outlets, also is it safe to connect 14 gauge romex wire to a 20 amp breaker as long as there is not a lot of load
    Thanks Al

    • @Tyrone3340
      @Tyrone3340  10 лет назад

      I would just use 12awg because well its the right way, and you can never say with certainty what loads may be placed on the circuit in the future.

    Tyrone, thanks so much for doing these... great videos!!
    I want to extended an outlet up to an outlet behind a wall mounted TV set. The outlet below where I want my new outlet is already extended (like the outlet on the right-hand side in this video. Is that ok to add another outlet to this already extended one? Would I do as in this case and just screw the wires from all three outlets together into a pigtail and attach to wires attached to the outlet?

    • @Tyrone3340
      @Tyrone3340  10 лет назад

      did not understand the last part of your question but yes it is ok to extend from the existing outlet. Just make sure that the existing outlet is the correct voltage ( i would assume 110 volt).

  • @jddelayiii
    @jddelayiii 7 лет назад

    Tyrone once again you are the master. I have never seen the pig tail outlet approach that you use. I am sure it is code acceptable or you would not teach it. It only makes since that you approach it this way to allow for the rest of the circuit to never fail if an outlet for some reason fails in the circuit. Thanks again for your teaching, sir.

    HI Tyrone, do you have any conversion of receptacle type vids. Meaning I noticed that my wall switch controlled a single receptacle (single pole outlet 14/2) I wanted to convert this wall switch which was wired with ( hot and neutral only coming from receptacle) so I closed the circuit to make the receptacle unswitched and pigtailed at the switch box to get a new hot.
    Here is my dilemma, my intention is to introduce two new single pole switched circuits fed by this NEW single source hot (above) , each circuit provides power to 3 LED recessed lights on each circuit. (2 circuits x 3 LED lights).
    Hopefully this is enough to get you thinking but there is a bit more with above in mind. Invision double gang box 2 switches in it 1. Maestro CL occupancy sensor 2. double switch Leviton for the 2 circuits above. I have wired it to be Maestro single polled to the leviton. Maestro receives the above hot, Leviton is the switched load. My issue is the unswitched receptacle now works but my lights dont light :) yet there is current along light circuits when the leviton switches are on off accordingly. My question is could the making of the unswitched receptile which consumed my white wire(see top) be a parallel circuit created ? and depriving my light circuits somehow ? Love your vids also !. I will figure it out but figured Id ask :)

      Ha Ha no problem, Im a computer guy so I likely didn't use the right electrican's terms anyways no matter how hard I tried. In short, after watching a few more of your vids you talked about "Thinking" . Knowing It just didnt make sense why it wasnt working I knew my problem had to be elsewhere. I pulled out the receptacle from the wall to have a closer look. At closer inspection I noticed they changed a White Wire to be "hot" which left running up to the switch that I was in :) This was my issue. I was led to this after I tested the wires and didnt understand WHY my white was HOT. I guess this is an Electrician's practice ??. Anyways I changed it back to being White are my neutrals and blacks are hot for this particular situation. Once this was done everything worked perfectly .. Thanks I want to get your book btw. !

    Hi, Tyrone. What is the purpose of a double pole, single outlet? Leviton makes one, model # Model # R52-05821-0WS. I'd like to add a 220v outlet to my home and I'm trying to select one that's compatible with a NEMA 6-15P plug. What do you recommend?

    • @Tyrone3340
      @Tyrone3340  10 лет назад

      hey Richard the single outlet is usually used where you want a specific thing ( one piece of equipment to be plugged into that outlet and nothing else. when choosing just be sure to look at the equipment specs example (220volt 20amp or 110volt 15amp) and choose the outlet that meet your required specs. Hope that helps

    • @bochista
      @bochista 10 лет назад

      Tyrone Robertson Hi Tyrone. I'm planning to install an outlet for a 220v 7 amp device, using a NEMA 6-15P plug. My main question is why would a single outlet be double pole?

    • @Tyrone3340
      @Tyrone3340  10 лет назад

      Double pole may be the description that the manufacture use to indicate that the device is designed for 2 ungrounded conductors. Single outlet is a way to describe a outlet that just has one yoke where as a duplex outlet is the term used to describe an outlet with 2 yokes (yokes are the part of the outlet where you plug in equipment) like I said before just make sure the specs for the outlet are suitable for your intended use.

    • @bochista

    The neutral wire for the timer have to be from the same circuit as the vent fan. If the gfci and the vent fan are on the same circuit you are good. If it is from same circuit as gfci you need to determine if it is on the line or load side of the gfci and make sure you tie in to the neutral on the appropriate side.

    a good rule of thumb is no more than 13 but ultimately you want to factor in the load you will have on the outlets 20amp circuit 2500va and 15amp 1500va is 100% rated capacity you should not load either circuit more than 80%

    Hey sixpac you are going to want to use AWG12. and install a single outlet, or if the outlet is withen 6 feet of the wash tub you want to make sure it is GFCI protected. you can use a 20 amp GFCI breaker and use a single outlet or use a regular 20 amp breaker and a GFCI outlet. you want the circuit to be dedicated to the washing machine hence the single outlet. either setup will comply with the NEC GOOD LUCK

Is it possible to run my supply line to the panel from the middle of the series, or do I need to run it from one of the ends? If I ran it from the middle, I would have 3 lines (1 from the previous outlet, one to the next outlet and then the supply line. Is it okay to run these together in an elaborate pigtail configuration?

    Hi Tyrone - thanks for the great videos. They are a great service and I appreciate the knowledge you are passing along. I do have a quick question. At around 4:50 you hold up the outlet and the pigtails are already attached. Are you creating those just using some extra wire you've clipped off? Also, I plan on using 14/2 wire since I'm coming off a regular 15 amp outlet. Is this correct? The breaker is 15 amp too. Thanks again!

    I'm very glad I found your videos, I'm just now learning a little about electric so I still get confused ,when your running your plugs do you only pig tail the first plug coming off the run or do you pigtail all of them?
