“Compel” is always a good word when you really want to say “make” 😅. And I think you should write up a snappy looking brochure and mail it to all the fabric stores. This Santa letter was a good PSA, too. We just need to demand better! I’m with you!
Loved how you fixed things on the fly! And the best Santa letter yet. I think so many fabric store owners and employees just don’t know about the grain and why it’s important, especially if the employees do not sew.
I agree! I’ve talked to experienced sewists who don’t understand it either. And many think anyone working at any fabric shop just ‘knows what they’re doing’ -heck they may think they know too!
So when you started to “tack” down some areas, I had to tell you that I tried that with the cardigan I made Wednesday to make sure some seams aligned. Success! Well almost perfect, but not really noticeable, so success!
I make mistakes every time I sew. I don’t even think of them as mistakes or bad things. It’s just part of the process. I only think of it as time I lost if I’m in a hurry or recoding a video or damage to the fabric in the case of some mishaps. It’s just what it is!
Such a cute cat bed. Let’s talk about cutting on Grain, my pet peeve. I have complained for years about fabric stores not cutting on grain. I bought a twill at Joann for making pants for children (charity sewing). The fabric was almost 12” off grain. I washed it twice to try and straighten it. No way it would move. I told the manager, who didn’t care, so I wrote to the president of Joann who did not respond, shameful. I went back to the store and demanded my money back. I gave the. The fabric and showed them. The manager finally said ok. I told that was fine for me but what about all the other times. So after that I started leaving comments constantly at Joann website to correct their problem, but better fabric. I do wish you would say what fabric shop you were upset about the way they cut. Thanks for listening and I have loved your vlogmas, especially the letters.
Oh gosh! Twill is hard to cut on grain on a good day! I’m not surprised it was that far off. Ugh. I’m glad I have someone to help me fight the good fight! 🙌🏼
Congrats on vlogmas completion! I enjoyed all of them. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year! "Make cutting fabric on grain the standard for all retail fabric sales." Yes.
I absolutely love this, Saremy!! I subscribe to their newsletter, but have not yet made the pattern. I am totally going to make pet beds for my animals in the future. Thank you so much for sharing about your experience and your mods. I loved it!
Thank you so much, for the many great ideas! I’m starting early, for Christmas 2023! BTW egg nog is one of our family’s seasonal favorites. Don’t know the reason it’s called “nog”, maybe due to added alcohol. We prefer it without. I’m always reminded of custard sauce, when having eggnog. Hope you give it a try. Happy & Merry😍
Once I found out about grain line, my first thought was why are they screwing us at the cutting table? I soon realized two things. One, workers are often not sewers and do not know. Two, we have to buy extra to get the amount of useable fabric required, so stores make more money. I'm cosigning this letter with every fiber of my being. I hate having to spend more on wasted fabric.

YEAAA! I feel compelled to write a letter and it’s not to Santa! 😉
Excellent. Worthy rant, and needed.Enjoyed all your vlogmas, and glad that I found you. Yuk, eggnog!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!

Always good to see you think on the fly when there’s a glitch!
You know it. ❣️

Yay! Glad it worked for you!
Nice to see that even you make mistakes sometimes. Well, especially when you are explaining and filming!

Okay I’ll give it try… next season 😉 And starting early for gift sewing is an excellent plan!
YES! Shops not cutting on grain is my biggest complaint. I have lost a quarter yard - that I paid for - by them not cutting on grain
Totally agree! We need to start a movement! 😅
Merry Christmas to you and your family ❤
Happy holidays!
I'm going to miss those flogmas!
Aww! I am too!
I am going to go get that pattern.
Sweet!
