Oh, my goodness. I'm sorry to hear that you have chronic illness. I hope doctors and your natural supports help you get through some of the rough times. And kudos to you for recognizing that a nurturing environment should be a priority, if for nothing else, but for the calming effect it can have. And I admire serious crafters and aesthetes so much, I really wish I could be there to help you - if only for meal prep and light housekeeping.
That was Abby screaming " TIPPY TAPS!", right? 😂😂😂 loved that! 😂 Thank u so much for this deep dive into witch shoes, it's always very fascinating to me how we get those concepts which seem so universal like they always have been this way!❤
OMG, you amaze me every time when you create shoes. These are wonderful! What a gorgeous talent. A multi-talented woman. And we get to learn so much in the process. Thank you!! 🪄
When the shot of you knitting in bed popped up, I was also knitting in bed! Knitting is my whole life, so I always get excited to see others knitting :D Love the video
20:00 I don't imagine that you had to do much "forcing" to get happy to do that with you! She is such agoofball already and I feel like wherever she is shenanigans are happening. It was so fun when you two were neighbors.
I just loooove your posts Nicole! They are so interesting! I want to go out and buy the material to make my own pair... one of these days. I admire your effort not only to research, but also to actually construct your shoes. Clearly, you are not a novice. Beautifully made.
DAMN YOU ALGORITHM!! I thought we were cool? I engage with creators, I take your little surveys and leave ratings when asked… you’ve been letting me down more and more lately. Why?! How have I missed this *gem* of a channel?! Ya had one job, Al(goreithm), one job. Oh, NEW SUB!! Amazing video!! 💐❤️
Fun! Most of us is just practical in what we put on. Sometimes things did come our way as payment. So maybe a cause for the wider spectrum of shoe and dress?
Witch Shoe Sighting in the "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl". They're incredibly easy to miss, but while Elizabeth is wearing her red dress (which looks Jacobian to me, rather than 18th c) during her time as Barbossa's captive on the Black Pearl. She wears a pair of "pirate shoes" that look as if they were pilfered from Louie XIV's closet, complete with red heels.
I love how the curvy witch-shoe shape is suggested after the ruby slippers come off, and the witch's toes start curling up before the feet disappear entirely.
21:13 No disrespect but, culturally speaking the Salem trials are very specific to the US. Despite the movies that have been about them, most people outside of the US have absolutely no idea about that whole thing.
Funnily enough, a lot of people in Europe just generally associate witch trials with the Middle Ages. Even though they predominantly happened in the 16th and 17th century here. I think it's maybe due to WW1 and WW2 and the importance these events play in our educational systems, that some other time periods get very neglected. European history is such a vast and convoluted field...there is no covering that adequately in 2h/week, even if you have several years.
Maybe as witches are more likely to be depicted as older women the reason the shoes are ’old fashioned’ is because they were the shoes typically worn by older women?
Abby screaming "Tippy taps" cracked me up! 😂❤

So very interesting! Excellent video! Although, I have to admit, one of my favorite parts was the end with your friend screaming "TIPPY TAPS!!!"

The smoothness and shine of the leather on the heel makes me very happy.
So deeply excited, I've always loved the witch shoe shape 😍😍
Bugs bunny Witch Hazel!! She had the best shoes ever!!! I'm sure Hocus Pocus was inspired at least in part by her. 1954.
Yay!! A shoemaking video. Was just thinking it's been a while. Love watching Nicole and her amazing skills. ❤

Shoe design in fashion history tends to be overlooked. It's great to have you share your knowledge. It's great to watch your craftsmanship, too.

How weird is it, that my first thought was "those look absolutely lovely" referring to the comfort - I thought they look very comfy
It's so incredible to watch you make actual real shoes. It's a kind of magic! ❤❤

If she doesn't, Abby does. There is no way to get it to her
I am obsessed with those shoes. I'd live in them.
Those are good shoes, I can see why so many people like the look.

I am still considering trying to make myself a thin leather pair of shoes so I would finally have a pair that fit!
Super
Hey Nicole, there is an error on the new thumbnail. It should be Witch's Shoe or Witches' Shoe.
Bernadette and Nicole in the same day, we’re so lucky
The shape is really close to Dutch clogs
JC Penney just had a pair.
