Your correct Lawrence O'Donnell didn't let Penn really get a word in edgewise. I guess that just like Donald Trump he wants to be loved as well. Penn is a nice, polite guy. Lot's of patience.

So, forgive me for being genuinely surprised to find that you were being literal. It's a rarity. If anything, I was commenting on the 'rush, rush, rush' pacing of certain news interviews. +xinic5 i think the host is overly steering the conversation. Penn doesn't have a chance to go into depth about things. the entire interview has the feel of when the news flashes a promo. "tonight, why your toothbrush may be the deadliest cleaning item in your home."
Is it really that hard to understand that it's possible to enjoy someone's company while at the same time thinking they aren't fit to be president? Because that's true of every single one of my friends.
There was no point. Just a false dichotomy. Penn Jillette says he likes Trump because of his supposed honesty (I don't think he's honest, but Penn apparently does.) He also disagrees with Trump's honestly held beliefs, and therefore thinks he shouldn't be president. There's no contradiction there.
+BlueFish Why not? The gop loves actors, wrestlers, and TV personalities in office. Might as well try a libertarian magician (last I checked? Is he still or did I get that wrong?).
Trump is an allegedly hardcore atheist who said he worships God but has never known how to pray. That's tantamount to a dancer saying he loves to dance except when he hears music.

_"Backstage before I lost, he had said 'You know, you really should have supported me for president'"_ ... Yeah, that sounds like an obvious joke, Penn.
"I think Bernie Sanders kinda tells the truth" IMMEDIATE SUBJECT CHANGE lol. No mention of him at all ever again on msnbc ever. But respect for Penn. love that guy.
Dennis probably thinking, "What? I drove all the way down here for a 30 second spot?" Lawrence basically introduced him, showed him a video, and then thanked him for coming. Why even have someone on the show if you are just going to throw the actual interview/conversation in some dusty corner of your website never to be seen again?
He was entirely wrong about Trump. Trump uses any number of particular lines to see which one of them works with whatever audience he is before. When he strikes a chord, he increases and fill out the meat on that rhetorical bone that has struck a chord with his audience. Trump is unique in this regard and that is because he is a natural, not a politician. A politician say what others have told him to say despite what the audience wants to hear. Ben Bogan I can think of others - ALL "vice crime" laws. I should be able to legally gamble anywhere I want with anyone I want. Is should be able to drink alcohol in a nude strip club. I should be able to hire a hooker if I want. There should be no places where the sale of alcohol is restricted on Sundays, and no "dry counties". There should not be (also a part of the drug war) such wide open seizure laws - allowing police to steal cash and property based only on suspicion. But ending the drug war will at least be a step in the right direction.
Ben Bogan Well, I would not go quite that far, unless you include fraud and other white collar crime as property crime. I tend to take a slightly broader view, that the purpose of law is to prevent another person from causing demonstrable harm to others, or acting in ways (such as drunk driving) that create a serious risk of harm to innocent people. But all these vice laws do the exact opposite. Under the disguise of protecting people from themselves, they actually create harm and great risk of harm to innocent people. In a sense, passing and enforcing these laws is the real crime.
Maybe instead of ad hominem attacks, you could try providing an actual argument? Penn clearly just prefers the constitution's freedoms to economic freedoms.
Trump is an glowing orange cesspool resembling an imitation of a human being. His thought process is that of his own turds but seeing as he uses his mouth to regurgitate those it's no real surprise that he seems to be getting dumber. Where will it stop, no one knows.
***** Penn's said recently, several times actually, that after firing him on All Stars Trump said "You should've backed me for president" so not only did he do it before, Trump held it against him like the petty asshat that he is.
So his opinion basically boils down to "I like him, but not as a president, and he's wrong about everything" without any arguments (not that there was time). Not so much decoding so much as it's just stating he disagrees with him.
Hey, is it just me or is something wrong about the clip at the end of the video where the cyborg points and tells us to subscribe. His news-anchor accent comes off a bit strong, no?
Trump's certainly NOT wrong about EVERYTHING. What a stupid statement from such a smart guy. I'm not voting for neither, but give me a break. What, Hillary's more honest? What has Hillary every accomplished that was good for America? Words & work titles mean nothing. What has she done for this country?
From the miniscule amount of actual Penn Time ... I would put him forward as possibly the only person to talk the Prez-nado down from the ledge... walk him out if you will... it would be humane. Trump really is the presidency without filters... it's just that it's turned out that filters like factual truths and integrity are important in Governance of a Nation.
This would actually have been a really interesting interview had O'Donnell not felt obligated to try and seem witty. His constant interruptions and self promotion ("When I was writing the West Wing") is beyond annoying. Wonder if he realizes he is, on some level, basically a left wing Donald Trump? That is, an egomaniacal blowhard.
If you came here because of the title of this video, you're going to be disappointed. This sadly had nothing to do with Penn breaking down Trump at all. Sucks cause I really wanted to see that.
Have you ever thought just throw everything out the window about Donald Trump that you thought about prior to his presidency the seat of being president changes every single man he may turn out to be pretty good for the country maybe not for you and Hollywood and the rest of the world but he's good for us the Americans the people who live here work here sleep here die here
So, better trade deals, enforced borders, fewer potential terrorists allowed in, are all bad ideas ? I thought Penn was supposed to be smart, I now have serious doubts !
So continuing the gradual destruction of America is great with you guys, or are you living in a different world than me? Hillary is a political insider that has absolutely no plan except the continuation of Obama's policies.
Steve Panos Your comment shows an abundance of evidence as to your level of bigotry and ignorance. You possess zero working knowledge of politics or economics and you have a very little grasp on the events of history. I suggest you open a book.
How about a man that has over 500 companies in his control. Bankrupt a casino. that's your anti-trump stance? And if you haven't been paying attention America is 20 Trillion in the hole. Unemployment is going up again even after people have left the workforce. The world thinks this country is a joke even Putin laughs at us because we have become week. The Middle east is in shambles courtesy of Obama and his interference and support of the Saudis . Blacks are killing white cops deliberately and our president states its the cops fault. What America are you living in? Do your parents pay your bills are you that sheltered.
Americans would do the jobs if they could and don't start with that Americans are lazy crap. I deliberately had Americans build my house and the surrounding houses were built by illegals collecting cash after the day was done. My Family were farmers and picked those vegetables and fruit you say nobody wants to pick up back in the early 1900 . They got underbid and those jobs are gone. Jobs will always find people to do them.
That's one of the unfortunate parts of being a legend's child. People will always try to compare him to his father. He's actually trying though. It's not easy to fill his father's shoes. He is doing his best nonetheless. He's also a congressional correspondent for NBC News. So he's not doing so bad. I try to cut him some slack :-)
+geese I know I've seen him on MSNBC Meet the Press reporting to Chuck Todd in small segments. He's still very young (30). So he has a long way to go. I would think since he is a millennial that he gets the social media and RUclips audience. So that's probably why he has that assignment. Let's root for him and wish him the best :-)
Except there is no scientific evidence to support the theory of Thiomersal causing autism at all. Autism still happens regardless of vaccines, so Trump helping to push this ridiculous theory around in order to stop vaccinations for children was/ is dangerous, combined with calling anything that disproves it as 'left wing propaganda'. I'm afraid that your 'American Saviour' was wrong about Vaccines and Autism, and is likely wrong about many other things as well, such as writing original speeches.
It's an inevitable conclusion that they could face restrictions or possible bans. A potential President of the United States dislikes vaccines because he personally believes they cause autism (which is proven to be false but I already said that) and could very well in his power do something about it. To me, this is dangerous and foolish. If he's extreme enough to build a ridiculously expensive wall then he's extreme enough to go that far. Besides, there's no one else here but me and you arguing in this comment section so I have no idea why you are trying to use that on me.
Well, he said that Bill Clinton is responsible for NAFTA. That's wrong. It was Bush (GHW) who basically created it. Clinton just signed the documents. It wasn't his creation. Trump said that thousands of muslims were cheering the attacks of 911 in New Jersey, but there is NO documented evidence of that. He said that he wrote The Art of the Deal alone, yet for some reason that he can't quite figure out, there's some other guy's name on the cover as well. Hmmm. He called that judge in the fraud case against Trump University Mexican and claimed that he was unfit to preside over the case because of that fact alone, but he was born in Indiana. Rather a long way away from Mexico. He still believes that Obama is a secret muslim and wasn't born in the States despite that being proven false. He seems to have a strange understanding of the Brexit situation because he thinks there is some parallel to what is happening over there and what is happening in the States. He's said that he's the only one who can fix the world, but that's wrong too. He said that 2006 was a great time for him to open up a mortgage company. LOL. He let Sarah Palin speak at his rallies. If nothing else, that's probably the biggest wrong ever. He said that his famous wall would cost about 4 billion to build. Then he changed it to 7. Then it grew to maybe 10. Then 12. Then he just gave up trying to estimate. He says he's going to get the jobs back from China and Mexico. Wrong. They're gone. Try again. His ideas about isolating the States stopped working back around WWII. The world has changed, and isolation will not work. His ideas about opening up the free market and doing away with regulation will only lead to another massive market crash. That's what Reagan did in the 80s, and Black Monday happened. He's wrong about economics. He's wrong about politics. He's wrong about diplomacy. He's wrong about international policy. He's wrong about terrorism. He's wrong about everything.
Lawrence O'Donnell needs to be fired or be given a job that does not involve "interviewing" guests. All he did here was talk to himself the entire time. He'd make a good janitor or trash man, but not a host.
Should be re-titled "Penn Jillette would've decoded Donald Trump if he was allowed to speak".
deinse82 Like Lawrence O'Donnell could stand more than 9 seconds without hearing his own voice.
Your correct Lawrence O'Donnell didn't let Penn really get a word in edgewise. I guess that just like Donald Trump he wants to be loved as well. Penn is a nice, polite guy. Lot's of patience.
Tiller surely had a chance, but he failed to take the opportunity to get his point across about Trump.
And I can't say I was disappointed.
deinse82 HAHA
"Lawrence O'Donnell lets Penn Jillette talk twice"
That's how Lawrence does. WORST interviewer ever.
I noticed that too. Great when an interviewer does all the talking.
99% is a big #.
LordKellthe1st
Penn Jillette's expression when he gets interrupted in the beginning is priceless.
LordKellthe1st Lmao...what a moron you are.
I watched that whole thing and it felt like no idea was discussed long enough to get to a point. Sentences weren't even finished. :/
I felt like it was trying to say something but was entirely unfocused. Penn is a very smart man, you've brought him into the studio, let the man talk!
Are you talking about this video or one of Trump's speeches?

all tv is like that
Great interview if you like the host walking all over the person he's supposed to be interviewing.
This conversation is totally and utterly crap. There is very little time for Penn to really say anything of worth.
+xinic5 i think the host is overly steering the conversation. Penn doesn't have a chance to go into depth about things. the entire interview has the feel of when the news flashes a promo. "tonight, why your toothbrush may be the deadliest cleaning item in your home."
"I like Trump because of his honesty, but he's wrong, but I like him more than anyone because he tells the truth, but not as a president"
Telling the truth about how you feel and speaking facts are two separate things that are not exclusive to each other.

"Comedian Penn Jillette" is a weird way to describe him. He is very much a magician.
Penn Jillette should run for president

Penn endorsed Bernie.

Trump doesn't just speak in short sentences with small words, he thinks in short sentences with small words.
Now that's funny! If he cogitates at all . . . so sad - pathetic really.
You do know that Trumps IQ is crazy high right?
Leave the Matrix Trump steaks. Trump Vodka. Trump Magazine. Trump University. Trump Mortgage. Trump Taj Mahal. All miserable failures. But he claims to be good at business. If not for America's very Liberal bankruptcy laws, he'd be a homeless person. No. He's not smart, and he's not good at business. He's a sociopath who has taken advantage of the system that is supposed to allow any American to learn and to prosper.
He's a charismatic fool.
So do you think about penises most of the time, or all the time? Never mind. Don't need to know.
Docktor Jim I really don't think you have the qualifications to diagnose someone with a mental illness. Ya, a few of trump's businesses have failed. That still leaves him with a successful business percentage over 95. That would be well above the national average for fails to successes in business. Like hundreds of times above the national average.
Let me ask you a question. Is this the first time you have heard this rebuttal to your argument? I ask because the claim that Trump is a bad business man was refuted and debunked a long time ago.
Silly me. I thought interviews were about listening to what the person being interviewed has to say.

You actually expect these inbreeding retards to actually comprehend anything longer than a 5 second sound bite???
Oh my God let Penn talk! If it were me I would have said something, or just got up and left lol.
Can we please lose the Luke Russert end tags? Enough is enough.
Oh, god, is that who that was? I was only listening at that point, and he sounded so fake and annoying.
'It's come back to bite them in the butt' too hilarious and dangerously true, glad I watched this
i was very impressed by Penn Jillette on celebrity apprentice, he seemed liked a pretty great guy
If all people were like Penn Jilette, I'd still be calling myself a Libertarian. :) He's just such an amazing person and I really hope there comes I time when I get to meet and talk with him. Also--he's lost weight! Did anyone else notice that?

Penn sure knows what his audience wants to hear. Teller is the only one that will take a stand.
Penn Jillette is the man!
Why all the contradictory statements and the click-bait title?
Why all the repetitive comments about "click bait" titles?
Because the video uses a click bait title. Duh.
Dave, I'm being sarcastic.
_"Backstage before I lost, he had said 'You know, you really should have supported me for president'"_
... Yeah, that sounds like an obvious joke, Penn.
+Mychael Darklighter Oooo! Adam Ant! I remember that rebellious dandy! Quite the performer!
Except now looking at what trump has done to those who don't support him, it was obviously not a joke.
Only time I'll watch NBC is when Penn is on. Fox as well. Not the case for The Apprentice. Trump is, at best, out of touch.
"I think Bernie Sanders kinda tells the truth" IMMEDIATE SUBJECT CHANGE lol. No mention of him at all ever again on msnbc ever. But respect for Penn. love that guy.

The clip of trump at 1:58 reminds me of the character, Rupert Pupkin, from the King of Comedy. He speaks and acts like him.
Penn and Lawrence are good friends from way back. Good dudes.
let me decode the word "decode": to spin it politically.
Penn nails Trump at the 2.20 point. Everything you need to know in one or two sentences.
That's the problem with giving every person the right to vote. You end up giving it to idiots who base their opinions on sound-bites.
Trump establishes a bind with his audience.
arseholes can complain all day long, but can't solve problems to save their lives.
Chris Tubestinks
Careful, your illogical bias is showing.
Penn wishes he nailed Trump. Mr Trump doesn't swing that way.
although rand dropped out, he would later come out and say we should see if Iran complies first before eradicating the deal. just to clear up. thanks.
This would be a great interview, if interviews were called, "monologues."
Penn Jillette is such a nice guy, he's really smart and soooooo objective.
TRUMP 2016!
Penn Jillette is awesome! Cool dude. XD
I don't think it's humanly possible for anyone to be a bigger tool than Luke Russert is in this video.
I like Penn, he looks really smart wearing the new glasses.
I kind of liked this, Penn analyzing Trump
I thought Lawrence O'donnell was fired from MSNBC for constantly saying offensive things. They must really be scraping for him to have a show.
I'm supposed to care what a magician thinks?
...Well that was ambiguous .
Gotta love Penn's laugh!
> Trump: Makes a joke about personal experiences in a very jovial manner
> O'Donnell: Trump is pouring his heart out to us and we should pity him.
See Lawrence, this is why no one takes your inflammatory drivel & vitriol seriously. Also Penn, no one that supports dictatorships and the usurpation of our rights is a Libertarian LMAO.
Penn and Teller still get along? That says something.
I must say, his candy cane tie is delicious. Love Jillette!
Trace should be Trumps VP.
Good idea
Penn is not a libertarian.
I'm sorry but if you are more sympathetic to Bernie than to Trump, you don't understand libertarianism and you're really just interested in legalizing pot.
Tell me how Trump is "wrong on everything".
Journalism is dead. These people don't even ask obvious questions anymore. The bias is allowed to flourish in questions never asked.
To give you an idea of where I am in answer to your question, I can't actually tell if you're being sarcastic.

msnbc outta here
I think Penn is bitter and opposed of Trump for Prez because he wasn't picked! Hey Penn..you're FIRED!
***** Penn's said recently, several times actually, that after firing him on All Stars Trump said "You should've backed me for president" so not only did he do it before, Trump held it against him like the petty asshat that he is.
Great intro, Trace couldn't be here hahahaha
Starts talking about Senator Sanders...(red Lights!) Cut him up....change the subject!
Doesn't really matter what you do. "Just being on TV sells tickets...."
I'll just step aside and let that little revelation sink in.
well that was simply Trump bashing with no real articulate reason as to why. A plastic tie $20 to China so what...
It's funny to see the orange guy's bitter tweet the day after this was aired and Penn's incredible, gracious response.
I think I missed the decoding.
Wow, Jilette has lost weight!
Why would Ron Paul loose any sleep about Rand? Both are not war-mongers unlike most people in the US.
If they ever were to make a live action Sonic the Hedgehog movie, I think Penn Jillette would be a good Robotnik...
Dang. Laurences faces felted since then.
Penn should've won though☮️🌻😇💁🏻♀️🤠
Um...where's the decoding?
I like Penn.
So his opinion basically boils down to "I like him, but not as a president, and he's wrong about everything" without any arguments (not that there was time). Not so much decoding so much as it's just stating he disagrees with him.
Interesting to bring a magician as a political commentator, I say let's replace mainstream journalists with actors.
Oh wait... they already are..
LMAO...MSNBC is still in business?
Hey, is it just me or is something wrong about the clip at the end of the video where the cyborg points and tells us to subscribe. His news-anchor accent comes off a bit strong, no?

I held one up for free in NH
how much Cruz paid you to write a lie here!!?
Lawrence O'Donnell is the last decent person on MSNBC.
Let's not talk about MSNBC getting an entertainer to do their job for them.
I hate Luke Russert.
the host won't stop talking!
Penn's new memoir _'Confessions Of A Trash Man'_ is out this Fall.
Penn should have won the apprentice if not for his comment about the Donald's hairpiece.
Penn, please learn to tie the Tie!!! Half Winsor...please!Trump/Pence 2016!!!
From the miniscule amount of actual Penn Time ... I would put him forward as possibly the only person to talk the Prez-nado down from the ledge... walk him out if you will... it would be humane.

So the final came down to two guys with pony tails?
Looks like you're flying the freak flag, too, brother!
I beg yours?
as it well should. fly that freak flag high.
Some of my favorite founding fathers had pony tails.
Search: Penn Jillette on Donald Trump, “However bad you think he is, he’s worse”
If you came here because of the title of this video, you're going to be disappointed. This sadly had nothing to do with Penn breaking down Trump at all. Sucks cause I really wanted to see that.
Penn Jillette needs to go back to selling pens and Shaving Implements.
Have you ever thought just throw everything out the window about Donald Trump that you thought about prior to his presidency the seat of being president changes every single man he may turn out to be pretty good for the country maybe not for you and Hollywood and the rest of the world but he's good for us the Americans the people who live here work here sleep here die here
Well I guess that would have been interesting if Penn was allowed to talk.
Yea America does
So, better trade deals, enforced borders, fewer potential terrorists allowed in, are all bad ideas ? I thought Penn was supposed to be smart, I now have serious doubts !
So continuing the gradual destruction of America is great with you guys, or are you living in a different world than me? Hillary is a political insider that has absolutely no plan except the continuation of Obama's policies.
Its suffering unless we stop illegal immigration and the drugs they are pumping into this country.
Mexico is a giant leech off of the US.

Your comment shows an abundance of evidence as to your level of bigotry and ignorance.
I met Tim Russert. It makes me so goddamned sad that his kid is doing the "point at youtube annotations" gig.
He was the successor to Walter Cronkite and Edward R. Murrow
TJ Mul
He was not.
Ever since Penn lost all that weight I keep seeing him as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but with much looser skin.
''Wrong about everything''
Name one example.
"Vaccines cause Autism" - Trump 2015
He's wrong about everything.
chetthehoss Ya pretty much got him all wrapped up.
My trump ties look great. I'm also a libertarian but I'm going to stay supportive of my primary party
I wanna know how does he sound childish? For talking and having a legit conversation.
Penn is a smart guy. We need more smart people to vote in this election.
yes! More smart people voting for Trump... You can be smart by voting for Trump also!

Poe's Law applies to your comment.
Poe's Law applies to the Trump campaign.
Penn and his ponytail/suit combo need to get out of the '80's.
Penn needs to get glasses that he doesn't need to push up.
Lawrence O'Donnell needs to be fired or be given a job that does not involve "interviewing" guests. All he did here was talk to himself the entire time. He'd make a good janitor or trash man, but not a host.
