Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!" - Развлечения
Old Colbert is so much better.
He's better for about 15 minutes, then the shtick gets tiresome again and I switch back to The Late Show.
Pardon?
+mosse matters Crunchy Chips does.
Every New Yorker and Ashkenazic Jew I've ever met
Agreed. Too bad CBS practically neutered him. Hopefully his character will return more frequently. Their ratings were higher last night than they have been since the first week or two he aired.
There should be a whole TV show of this.
man I bet people would love that show, maybe comedy central can pick it up
+1015Eelvis Yassss!!! 😂😂
Yeah, they could call it 'Last Word Nightly w/Stephen Colbert', or 'Colbert's Last Word', or.. or.. 'The Colbert Report'... yeah, 'The Colbert Report'...has a nice ring to it.
+mariusogmikal :( ^^
Maybe make the t's silent or something.
Stephen Colbert of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert should interview Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report.
I think he has actually done that before
+dan428 where?
Is there a clip on this channel?
That's even more meta than Deadpool.
He'd be a great "Formidable Opponent"
"If you don't share their feeling that you don't recognize your country anymore... Trust me, if Trump wins, you will."
Yeah... that hit home.
Sadly!
Yep...hit the nail on the head 😐
Haha just wait for January 6th 2021

BIGLY
Can we all just appreciate how brilliant the 2-day setup for this was?
Longer, perhaps -- he even has the old Colbert glasses on!
Didn't notice that! Good Eyes!
What was the setup
.
This segment is worthy of an Emmy Award.
Or maybe another Peabody Award since Cookie Monster ate his last one.
Right? A lot of his segments on the Colbert Report did honestly. Those were some VERY talented writers.
🥇
This would be a great regular segment. Everyone misses the old show. Bring back Better Know A District while you're at it.
YES I So miss Better Know A District! Maybe Colbert could be a correspondent for Stephen or just do some interviews from time to time. It would make me so happy to see Colbert giving congress people a run for their money again.
I feel like that's missing with Jon and "Colbert" gone from late night. Oliver or any other late show hosts don't light up congressman like those two did. Seth's "A Closer Look" segment is pretty great though.
i think even now comedy central is having their lawyers combing through law books to see if they can sue cbs for using their character. so don't expect this to happen often
flynnthorington I haven't heard anything suggesting that might happen. But then again, since Viacom owns CC, I really wouldn't be surprised.
@@flynnthorington Comedy Central is owned by Viacom who owns CBS so unlikely
Damn it was nice to hear him say "Hello Nation."
The old Colbert is back! Today is a great day!
please never leave me again.
Great Day!!! America will start winning so much now were gonna get tired of it!!
May this never end!
......it ended and now I'm sad. =-(
This clown is loosing so much in ratings, hw has to resort to his old character
He said we'd meet again some sunny day.
Trump is basically bright orange, I guess Colbert wasn't kidding.
+Jacob Gonzalez lmao
its been a good day...justice is NEEDED!
I cried for real just now.
Well....the 'day' part was right
He's even holding Sting, what a fucking legend.
Is that the name of his pen or something
+thefail The sword he was holding. It's from The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings books, which eventually got turned into six movies (when there really could have only been 4).
4 years ago. It sure feels closer to 14.
When he said "Tonight's Word..." I shivered.
We genuinely needed the real Colbert back for this election.
The real pretend Stephen.
The Realist, Pretend Stephen Colbert we will ever need.
The Other Guy is alright.
Ain't that the truth...iness.
We needed John Stewart too. This was fucking horrible.
We genuinely need the real Colbert back [period].
for some odd reason this is immensely comforting. A big sigh of relief that SOMETHING is as it should be in this crazy world.
I honestly teared up. Daddy's home.
Stephen, we don't need a report...we need THE report
Right? Or at least the same writers
I miss Steven Colbert. Bring Back Steven Colbert.
Remember during the first year of the Report, District Representatives were strongly advised by their party not to be interviewed by hm?
we need the Repor
+US I loved that series! Better know a district! those were really great and funny
+Daniel Curiel the heat between him and Eleanor Holmes Norton from DC in that series was nuclear. I loved it :)
Just reminding me how much I've missed this guy. We really could use the strength and courage of Stephen Colbert in these grim times.
"Is this the truth hole?" I am so glad that Colbert is consistently hilarious and clever :)
They got Stephen Colbert to appear on the Late Show!! Surprised Stephen was able to find him.
Can we keep this version? I like the other Colbert, but this is the guy we need.
but is he the guy we deserve?
It's too bad, when the character was first created, he didn't get a separate name. It would make things like this easier.
Yeah. Can someone explain the whole Stephen Colbert the man vs Stephen Colbert the character thing?
Basically, Stephen Colbert the character is a satirical take on pundits like Bill O'Reilly.
Oh okay. Where did the character originate? I don't remember him doing the character on the Late Show.
RIP Stephen Colbert. Long live his identical twin cousin Stephen Colbert
The Late Show is becoming more like the Colbert Report, and I approve
Stephen and Jon legitimately kept me sane during the Bush era. It felt like they were the only people fighting the power. I will never forget that time and place that was the late 2000's .
It was incredibly comforting to have them on our side
I feel sorry for the people who didn't witness the earliest & most comprehensive record of Fox news mendacity.@@elisepentz1063
0:45 "HELLO NATION!!!"
The moment when I jizzed my pants. No, I'm not ashamed to say it.
Good, Thought I was alone.
Yes. YESS!!!
Shit man, I don't blame you. As soon as I saw the Cap shield I damn near did the same shit, lol
I swear I cried when I heard that!
was it as good for you as it was for me?
When he said "Hello Nation" my excitement manifested quite strangely. I tensed up, slapped my leg and said "Oh Boy!"
The master has graced us with his presence one more time !!!! I miss him so!!!
The Word: Nostalgia
Smooth as Fuck
Oh my God, The Word! I knew from the very first time I saw this segment that The Colbert Report would be amazing. So glad to see it back, even if it's just for a "special" occasion.
+Alex M yeah the new format is different. I liked the old format because it gave us a way to laugh at the hypocrisy that he projected onto himself. So in a way we understood laughed and accepted what needed to be done. Now he simply tells the Truth, and we create an us vs them dynamic. We have no character we can project onto anymore that we can laugh about, only real life characters we can be disappointed and angry with.
I'm not sure why people say "old format" and "new format" for Stephen Colbert's shows.
The Late Show and The Colbert Report are two entirely separate things. It's not the same show revamped, it's a completely different show. Stephen retired The Colbert Report and the "Stephen Colbert" character he invented when he was offered the Late Show position. He even said as much on the first episode of The Late Show.
+Len the Trendy Tetraodontiforme . definitely agree. I am only acknowledging that these two characters and shows had similar objectives (news/entertainment), and that I believe the old character was special because he mocked stupidity without being critical about it. For the record, I love Colbert's work. Both new and old.
Full circle - post-election 2020.
Post Jan 6th
Painfully nailed it. This is a completely different place today than it was 4-5 years ago.
Makes me realize how much I miss The Colbert Report
jayvir6 this makes me realize how much I miss 2016 as crazy as it sounds

He was carrying Sting!
None more worthy to wield it.
You've seen it before......
This is worth staying up past my bedtime for!
This takes me back to staying up late on summer nights to watch the nightly re-runs of The Colbert Report and The Daily Show once my parents went to sleep. Middle school version of me is so happy that they did this bit.
Colbert came through when our Nation needed him the most #notallheroswearcapes
He's even wearing the red wrist band again!
Old glasses too. lol.
And lapel pin
+allteeth And the "C" pin.

The only thing missing was his pen!
I was so fucking excited when I saw this.
Same
Me too! xD
I love that he's carrying Cap"s shield and sting, lol. #nerd
Isn't it Anduril?
No, Sting is small, Anduril is very large. vimeo.com/111596265 Jackson gave it to him.
Is it too nerdy that I double checked using the sting replica on my wall to be sure?
@@nodnarbeht9505 it would be geeky if you glanced over, thought about it, and moved on. it would be nerdy if you took out a tape measure to check. it would be too nerdy if you double checked it by measuring against the anduril replica in your living room.
Pagansmurf rofl
Am I the only one whose heart leapt with joy when Colbert said "Hello nation!"?
I hope he makes this a regular thing.
At least for this week with the RNC please.
Idk why does colbert never attacking hillary! Is he a democrat??
JACK DOLAH
I do believe that he is a democrat. However, if you look through his videos a bit, you will see that he criticizes her as well. I think he balances it fairly evenly if you consider how much more entertainment value you can get by blasting some of what Trump says/does.
I imagine he always planned to have the old character recurring as a segment on the new show, but wanted to wait
+JACK DOLAH to the best of my knowledge he is not affiliated with any one party. He calls everyone out on their BS eventually
I miss the Report and the Daily Show so bad.
Daily Show still exists under Trevor Noah
@@waytoobiased
it is not the same show, it lacks the intelligent observations of the white jew jon stewart

The feeeels we got with this segment, oh the feeling feels were felt.
When I saw it said "The Word" I did a double take but the whiplash is so worth it.
Thank you for this Stephen!
Can you imagine how awesome the Colbert report would have been this year with all these political disasters

God this character is too good.
So glad he brought back the Word. From Truthiness to Trumpiness.
I had an overwhelmingly warm feeling of nostalgia wash over me when I saw this...
This is the Colbert we all came to love. Miss him a LOT.
That moment at 1:12 when they started playing the old theme song...my heart couldn't take it
#BringBackTheReport
+
He should make the old Colbert character a regular sketch on the Late Show.
After the reaction this got, I'm sure "Colbert" Colbert will be showing up time to time
+Akin Khoo Since Viacom also owns CBS, the fees should be negligible.
HELL YEA !!!!!!
Wow, this was 5 years ago. Holy...
AWESOME! Long live the Colbert Report!
Wait a minute.. was that "Sting" he was carrying?
It used to be on one of the shelves in Stephens set along with the Captain America shield
Yeah, if you didn't know he's a huge Tolkien fan.
LOL.. I haven't been living under a rock these past 10 years.. so, yes.. I'm aware of it.. ;)
Also, just in case you don't know, when Captain America was killed in the comics Joe Quesada(Editor in Chief of Marvel at the time) sent Stephen the shield. He said Colbert was the only one worthy of carrying it.
YES
this was such a pleasure to watch. i don't know if it's nostalgia, but i like this colbert better.
Same
He was doing this role for nearly a decade and has already ironed out the kinks. Nu Colbert is barely a year in
I watched the Colbert Report from the premiere to the finale, and while I understand your logic, it doesn't apply here. The Colbert Report was incredible, like jaw droppingly hilarious from the very first week. From its premiere even. He was great as a Daily Show correspondent before that too. I think it's just that political satire is his strength. His late night show is pretty good, and above average, mostly when he is being political, but political satire is what he is best at.
True, but I doubt that CBS would allow him the freedom he had with Comedy Central.
+John smith since he is so good at politics, makes me wonder what will happen after the election. How well he will handle non political stuff
That last statement is spot on. If only he knew how right he was
An old friend came back to make sense of this crazy election, and we've missed him so much.
The best Colbert. Really miss this character.
That moment when you realize that Stephen might have started using the new glasses just to help differentiate himself from his character.
captain Americas shield and Frodo baggins Sword, Hell of a way to enter

PLEASE RUN FOR PRESIDENT.
Your nation will be ready.
Yes COLBERT 2020🇺🇸
+Melvin Ascencio unless trump makes it 2 terms
america won't exist within two terms
Don't worry, Colbert is going to CRUSH his second term.
There is hope. Stephen will save us all.
Oh please, if Trump gets through he'll abolish the 2 term limit. Hell, he may well abolish democracy. Or at least rock it Mugabe style.
Democracme? 1:51
I'm pretty sure it's a joke, saying that Democracy is for The People, but the current state of the World is about The Individual.
"Get rid of XYZ because *I* don't like it"
Democrac-me.
here i thought it was a macrame pun
I the people.
'HELLO NATION..'
God I miss watching Colbert. I guess I gotta settle for watching Colbert.
The Colbert we know and love! The man who moved mountains.
"Did you miss me?"
"YOU HAVE NO IDEA"
Man, SIX years later and even more true than it was then. "True" not "truthy".
Best guest this show has ever had.
He's still got it!!
today is 4 days before the 2020 election, this is prophetic and still just as relevant today, god save us from Trumpiness.
It would be cool if he could have a "The Word" segment like once every couple of weeks or something, those were always the best Colbert Report segments.
Most of the audience didn't catch on to what he was doing until the Wørd appeared.
If the oiled up Uncle Sam caravan with the Captain America shield didn't give it away, the "Stephen" chant should have.
Anyone who knew Colbert from the Report would definitely have clued into what he was doing - I think the fact that he did a Word segment ON TOP of that is what made people really excited.
Also the segment beforehand.
It couldn'the have been obvious. I suspect that we will see him re-emerge from time to time as because it will bring in the ratings. I know I'll be more apt to tune in.
They knew what he was doing, they were just really excited about The Wørd. I would've been too.
ZOMG is like getting back with your ex!
oh man. no offense but this is a pretty sad and revealing comment. I hope everything works out for you
+Rex Umbra What?
Well, your hot ex, not the creepy one
The universe has been restored to its proper order.
I can feel it in my gut.

I got tingles when I heard that old soundtrack! :))
Holy Spirits of Samantha Stewart Oliver!!! Old Daddy Colbert is back 😀
Jesus he looks about 20 years younger, the Trump age aged him
Trump aged me too.. never thought that would happen
Was it Colbert or Stewart who said that "the presidency is supposed to age HIM, not US!"
With COVID on top of those 4 years, it seems like we all aged at least 10-15 during the past 6 years.
i almost cried with joy
I clicked at the speed of light when I saw the thumbnail.
Pause the video at 0:36. Read the banners where the audience is sitting. Laugh out loud.
Am I the only person that kept rewatching it over and over again. I miss the Report.
It feels good to see the funny Colbert.
He should go back to this format permanently. It's so much funnier.
Why? Donald Trump does it better with billions behind him.
Wtf is this India or China?
Stephen claimed he was going to leave TCR, even if TLS didn't become available. He was getting tired of playing the same character after 10 years.
That being said it would be nice if they tried a few new tweaks to the show's format. Most late night talk shows are just copying Johnny Carson's format.
mustang6172 he doesn't have to go back to being that "colbert" (from the report)...but, the late show is such a downgrade in terms of showcasing his talent, in my opinion...I stopped watching full episodes of it a while ago...some tweaks to the format, changing it to be more like the colbert report or the daily show (or just about any other late night show), would be amazing...I don't care for the show much as it is now...it was okay at first, but then it got worse...I only watch specific clips of it here on youtube... :/
He said in numerous sources that he was growing tired of the character act and, even if he didn't get The Late Show, he would have likely retired it within a year or two.
Does anyone else have a craving for Americone Dream?
Well, I do now...
***** You bet chocolate covered cone pieces in a caramel swirl is heavenly! It's probably my favorite Ben & Jerry's flavor (tied with Cherry Garcia).
+I Comment The best Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor. Go to your grocery store right now to try some, (although B&J's is expensive, at one corner store where I live it goes for 8 dollars! Amazon and Rakuten can ship you a pack of them with dry ice for about 3 dollars per unit.)
I always do
Americone...patent that shit now or regret it the rest of your life. lol
I miss the Colbert Report so much
I'm glad he realized that this was a year where we really needed some Colbert Report. Even if it was just for one segment. I salute you Colbert!
Trump supporters watching this are so confused.
Ah Danny, this isn't Russia. Is this Russia?
Many Republican voters don't just get all their news from one source. I know plenty of democrat voters who say they got their news only from late night shows though.
*cough-FoxNews-cough*
And that must mean them all, right? Because almost every single one of my conservative friends and clients strictly watch Fox, with very few getting their information from any other news outlet.
Hence, why the Report was so brilliant. Much like Archie Bunker, legitimately looking up to "Colbert" was just an elaborate trap.
Trump won the Republican nomination...I did NAZI that coming
So millions of people getting killed because of racism and hatred is funny to you?
If written well, yes. That's called black humor.
Hey don't be racist, White people can make dark jokes too!
Our species evolved humour to protect us from the Dark reality. Joking about these things is healthy.
But outrage makes people feel so much more noble! :)
Man, simpler times. I almost want Stephen to re watch these to see what he thinks
Thank you for this GIFT! WE WANT OLD COLBERT BACK!!!!!!!!!
I hope he gets his own segment. You know, like a "report from Stephen Colbert desk" kind of thing. With our political reality, he'd have such great material.
I just can't help smiling watching it.
I hate the Comedy Channel for saying they own Colbert's old
characters. This was a great moment.
I literally started crying with joy when I watched this on TV. This made me so freaking happy.
🫰🏻
Finally, the *funny* Colbert is back. Strangely, the real Colbert seems more filtered than his character.
I think that was the point. I MISSED this version of Stephen
Im not going to say this show isn't funny because it has its moments but it was predictable he would have to tone things down a little. You go from a cable channel that literally doesn't give a shit what you do, to a mega corp. like CBS, there was no way he could go as far as he use to.
He has to be. He's on network tv
CBS would be smart to unfilter his show if he wants to compete with Jimmy Fallon (as much as I dislike Jimmy's show).
Strangely? The real Colbert of course is more filtered. When you do a character it let's you get away with a lot more, and it even encourages you to push farther.
This feels like an ice cold glass of water after being stranded in the desert for years
