    Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

      +Alex M yeah the new format is different. I liked the old format because it gave us a way to laugh at the hypocrisy that he projected onto himself. So in a way we understood laughed and accepted what needed to be done. Now he simply tells the Truth, and we create an us vs them dynamic. We have no character we can project onto anymore that we can laugh about, only real life characters we can be disappointed and angry with.

    • @GoddoDoggo
      @GoddoDoggo 8 лет назад +6

      I'm not sure why people say "old format" and "new format" for Stephen Colbert's shows.
      The Late Show and The Colbert Report are two entirely separate things. It's not the same show revamped, it's a completely different show. Stephen retired The Colbert Report and the "Stephen Colbert" character he invented when he was offered the Late Show position. He even said as much on the first episode of The Late Show.

    • @Tadobear
      @Tadobear 8 лет назад +8

      +Len the Trendy Tetraodontiforme . definitely agree. I am only acknowledging that these two characters and shows had similar objectives (news/entertainment), and that I believe the old character was special because he mocked stupidity without being critical about it. For the record, I love Colbert's work. Both new and old.

      I watched the Colbert Report from the premiere to the finale, and while I understand your logic, it doesn't apply here. The Colbert Report was incredible, like jaw droppingly hilarious from the very first week. From its premiere even. He was great as a Daily Show correspondent before that too. I think it's just that political satire is his strength.His late night show is pretty good, and above average, mostly when he is being political, but political satire is what he is best at.

      Stephen claimed he was going to leave TCR, even if TLS didn't become available. He was getting tired of playing the same character after 10 years.
      That being said it would be nice if they tried a few new tweaks to the show's format. Most late night talk shows are just copying Johnny Carson's format.

    • @MsSHINeeTVXQSuju
      @MsSHINeeTVXQSuju 8 лет назад +10

      mustang6172 he doesn't have to go back to being that "colbert" (from the report)...but, the late show is such a downgrade in terms of showcasing his talent, in my opinion...I stopped watching full episodes of it a while ago...some tweaks to the format, changing it to be more like the colbert report or the daily show (or just about any other late night show), would be amazing...I don't care for the show much as it is now...it was okay at first, but then it got worse...I only watch specific clips of it here on youtube... :/
