A very good video but the only CC I would provide is the soldering. Clean and tin your tip regularly so it’s shiny as it transfers more heat. Add a small minute blob of solder to your iron before soldering as it transfers heat quicker & melts the solder to the pad quicker - you can’t do this if the tip is oxidised. Use flux for clean solder joints and for better solder flow. Thanks for making and sharing this video!
Agree. And, IMHO, tinning the wires over the ESC (or any other board) can easily cause short circuits. Having blobs of solder to fly around is never a good thing.
Hi Brody, Mark here all the way from Nova Scotia, Canada. I have been looking for a build video just like this. I am 68 years old and getting into RPAS-Drones! I bought two drones to build and I found your video on line today. Excellent video guide young man!! You speak succinctly and at a (newby) level. I will be purchasing one of the Build Manuals from KiwiQuads today. I am now a subscriber. Good Job!!
I love to see step by step builds, just like if it were a music playlist, so kudos for that! On the other hand you should really use flux, either on a pen or in gel, it helps a ton to solder!
Just finished my 1st build! ONE TIP I’d like to throw out there: If your ESC has a heatsink, be prepared to hold your iron on there for MUCH longer than Brodie needed to. The board can handle it👍
ELRS prefers to have ARM on AUX1 / CH5 (ARM hi, disarm lo) - one reason is that AUX1 is transmitted with every command packet. So, best to program the arm switch on the radio to output on AUX1/CH5. I think, this is default setting for most people anyway - just like in the video.
Thank you so much for making this tutorial! I am so excited to build my first fpv drone! I just want to say thanks for all the amazing content you’ve provided me, it has helped me begin my journey into fpv with my first drone which was a BetaFPV Cetus Pro. As a thirteen year old, I will need to take some time to save up money for a 5” quad, but once I have enough, I should be able to fly with a good drone! Once again thank you so much for guiding me through this journey of learning FPV! Also, do you know any good 4”-5” fpv drones under 250 grams that are around $250-300 cad? Thank you so much!
If you’re in the USA, you will need a HAM license to operate that 800mW vtx. Also, if the quad weighs more than .5 lb it will need to be registered with the FAA.
My camera cable is different.. it has 3 connectors on it, came in a white runcam box model is Robin. Not sure what to cut or connect into the camera. Everything up to that point has been the same though, easy to follow.
hi brodie im 12 and i want to get into the hobby of fpv but i need to know if i should buy or make my own because. i wanna be a freestyle pilot and im a big fan of you i have been watching for the past 4 monthes
definatly build your own,, its so much more fun and after all the learning watching and building you will be able to fix whenever you brake it ,, welcome to the world of fpv :)
You might wanna put some heat shrink on those arms before putting them on the body. This way you can simply feed the wires through and heat shrink it. Its such a much more professional look vs using zip ties. Not to mention zip ties fall apart after a while when they are in the sun, heat shrink will look great for years or until you totally wipe out and destroy the drone lol
How did you not fry the VTX when you smoke tested it? You didn't have the antenna on but thankfully it looked like it worked out all right. Anyways, awesome build man!
Generally, VTxs can handle short periods with small amounts of current going through them without burning out (Using a smoke stopper limits input to approx 0.5A) This is still something I should've done, putting an antenna on it, as that is 100% best practice. If I'd plugged a battery without a smoke stopper right into it and left it on for a bit it most likely would've burnt out the VTx indeed ✌️
Are your prices in New Zealand dollars or US dollars I live in Canada and unfortunately I can’t find a supplier of complete kits such as this one. Will you ship to Canada and if so, how much would it cost? thanks for doing this.
Yeah mostly identical, only difference would be the tuning side of things, but honestly you can leave the tuning as betaflights default and not touch it and it'll fly pretty sweet!
Fully build this drone but motors won't make noise or spin. I was at first but after plugging in the battery a couple times it stopped after a while. What should I do?
Fantastic video. One problem i ran into: The Betaflight copter image for my drone does move as shown @ 2:16:00 (Connect). but @ 2:22:20 "adjust receiver settings" my roll, pitch, yaw, etc all look like what you did, but the copter image does NOT move. Any guess why that might be? (Right now my setup is just the Speedybee FC connect to computer, RC1 receiver, and radiomaster Tx12).
Can you please help me because when I put my drone in Dfu mode it works but when I don’t it just won’t connect to the computer at all so will you be willing to help me?😢
Just because it’s long, doesn’t mean it’s hard unless you have a really low attention span. I watched the whole video without even realizing it was three hours long till I saw your comment thought it was maybe like an hour maybe an hour and 30 minutes long max there’s no not useful information in this video so if you’re new to it, I definitely would watch it
That’s if you’re going to do the tuning process yourself, by using the CLI tune you’re using a tune that has already been carefully completed by KiwiQuads. It’s basically the end result that you’re putting on the drone without needing to go through the process
@@BrodieReed But for me to buy on the website I need to fill in all the fields such as address, zip code, etc. There's no way I can do this, I live in Brazil
Had the same problem, you can try to 3D print an adapter. (I didn't realize that the comment was 1 month old sorry, I hope you found a solution for yourself)

although flux makes life easier , when soldering ,, most people that are used to soldering use solder with flux core and good iron ,, and they do not need the extra flux ,, :)
@@chrisfpv5706 yes and you are right and no....I use soldering stations every day...and I own some good stations...but in his situation it was a soldering iron with poor heat transfer so it was good to use flux...it was just advice and I didn't try to teach a lesson ... anyway it was a pleasure to watch the video

Otherwise BEFORE I start this build and 3 hour build. Is there a PRE-BUY all compatible LIST currently to date ? Goggles and all?

Epic thanks man! And yep 100% I do use flux, just generally only if I’m rebuilding with older solder ✌️
Wish this was around 6 years ago!!😢 Love the video and the commentary! Liked!
Thanks mate 🙏
I just decided to get into fpv like a month ago. I bought a kit and I'm building my own. I figured minus well get to know it

bro literally went thru alot just for us really appricate it man.
Enjoyed watching that video from start to finish.
Thanks for filming it...
A fantastic video! Thank you. I _thought_ I could build my own drone before (with instructional material to reference), but now I *KNOW* I can.

So many good little tips and tricks. This will be my first build I think.
Stoked!! Let me know how it goes
I needed this* video 20 years ago.
This is amazing video for drone enthusiast. Huge respect 🙏🙏
This is great, I was already going to build a very similar build based of TRONCAT's budget drone video but this full kit is better, and cheaper
Awesome dude, can't wait to hear how it goes!
Go to hear a fellow kiwi accent since living in the states for a year.
Hey man, you should solder capacitor on the esc board, it should be connected in the closest way
Wow, very helpful! Any tips how to add antirus ammo? Kiddin`
Thanx. This is a great video and soooo usefull!

No problem 👍
I’m supposing these awesome diy drones can carry cameras to do surveying ?
Yes, they can.
How much does the drone weight?
it is very good video but music sound is litle bit higher , thanks you for this video i have been searching yhis type of video for a long time
Never solder the motor wires over your ESC! Take advantage of the blue tack away from the board.
Hello i want to build my first drone with this guide but the motors cant be deliverd to me. Can u recommend any others?
AWESOME ,AWESOME REALY APRICIATE YOU CHANNEL ,CHARL SOUTH AFRICA ,VERY SAD THERE HARDLY NEW STUF TO BUY IN SOUTH AFRICA
quite an important video
Can you use a Speedy Bee Esc on Iflight FPV drone frame?

is vtx required even if your setting up analog? not a 100 percent sure on the fpv part yet and im building one at the moment
Please tell me more about the battery and the goggles
Any idea on the performance of this thing? like a max speed?

what kind of fpv headset and controler did you use to make this build?
Would everything be the same in the building and programing process of the drone if I used a different frame?

Thank you brodie bro 🤙🤙🔥
Hello sir, let me introduce myself, I am Adam from Indonesia and I want to buy a manual book on assembling a drone. How do I do it? Please help me.
Fully build this drone but motors won't make noise or spin. I was at first but after plugging in the battery a couple times it stopped after a while. What should I do?
Jump onto the KiwiQuads Discord and we will be able to work out what the issue is 100%
Anyone have some guidance on what to do if you're missing an ESC after flashing the new bluejay firmware?
Where can I order?
hey can i uuse a 4s battery with this and later on upgrade to 6s battery
Is there anything that secures the capacitor in place or is it just held down with that blue-tac?
Held down by double-sided tape ✌️

Looks easy, work hardly, however I should try it according to the good video.
How heavy is this drone because i would like to have a 250g drone so i dont have to get a license
nice

Do I need to download impulserc driver to flash my fc???
Isn't it dangerous not to tune the drone gradually? By putting your tune on there is no risk of engine overheating, etc.?
That’s if you’re going to do the tuning process yourself, by using the CLI tune you’re using a tune that has already been carefully completed by KiwiQuads. It’s basically the end result that you’re putting on the drone without needing to go through the process
I'd like to buy it, but i live in Brazil 😔 Is the manual in PDF? Could be sold via email...
Hey my man, you can purchase the PDF manual for sure!
📕 Grab your build manual: tinyurl.com/FPVbuildmanual

Where do I buy these kiwi quads?
From the Kiwi Quads website
meccano for grownups!
Yup!!
2024 still recommending analog? :P
As a budget way of entry yep
you put the wrong camera in the parts list, this cam doesn't fit in that frame.
Had the same problem, you can try to 3D print an adapter.

Can they ship to India
Not the kit, however the amazon links should have you covered 🤞
1:22:33 Uhm I don't know bout you guys but this cable seems really huge to me haha... I mean at least average.
The wires off the xt60 are hard to heat up because they have lead free solder on them ,and lead free solder is poo😂
Should show the actual analog video...
