    Paris for 10 days: black midi skirt, black wool slacks, black heavy leggings, black tunic, black sweater, black wool tee, black silk shirt, black belt with silver furnishings, black booties, black low heeled pumps, three bright scarves, packed in a duffel bag. Red epi leather Louis Vuitton Petit Noe. Felt fab and fit in everywhere I went. Thank you!💕

    Taking notes. If it can help someone else, here it goes:
    1-All black 🕶
    2-All white (be careful with fabrication, fit, silhouette) ☁️
    3-Fabrics (natural fabrics = looks more expensive than synthetics)
    4-Jewellery (dainty or one bold item)
    5-Sunglasses (dupes are good, use the high end/luxury styles that you like and find dupes, be careful to have UV protection)👓
    6-Scarves🧣
    7-Belts (think reversible)
    8-Bags (high end/luxury = think consignment stores, structured bags, neutrals and subtle) 👜
    9-Classics (tailored clean lines, minimal details)
    10-Dark jeans 👖
    11-White button down
    12-Pointed toe pumps 👠
    13-Undergarments (no seem +++)
    14-Turtleneck and blazer combination
    15-Camel coat 🧥
    16-Walk with confidence 👑
    PS. I love the last tips (clean hair, non creased clothes, all the little details...)

    BTW - when doing monochrome, make sure the color is the same color. For example: a satin black cami will not APPEAR the same color if the pants/skirt paired with it if that color is matte because shine reflect light while matte absorbs it.

    • @BusbeeStyle
      @BusbeeStyle  6 лет назад +33

      I don't think the colors have to match exactly. I think it can actually add more depth and interest to vary tones and textures, like silky cami with velvet pants....for example. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!! Erin xo

    • @es4666
      @es4666 6 лет назад +1

      I agree. Textural differences are important but if you’re going to do the all black look they need to all be true, fresh black. Navies need to be the same tone navy. Or as you say visually look the same.

    • @KODoch48
      @KODoch48 6 лет назад +10

      Frankly, all good points here, but when it comes to monochromatic looks ... it's all about color gradation, not necessarily "matchy-matchy." Perfect tonal family is not only what makes opposite colors on the color wheel be drawn to "go together," but also what pulls together a lighter and darker color of the same color. Too stark of a leap into a version of a color that technically "leans" into another color family is what throws off that seamless transition of color to the eye, thus making it seem somehow disproportionate! It's kind of a "can't quite put your finger on it" for some people, but you just inherently "know it when you see it"!
      (signed: "Photographic Color Memory")

    • @helenaville5939
      @helenaville5939 5 лет назад +8

      @@es4666 You're aiming for the impossible by insisting on achieving the same tone navy - or any other colour for that matter. Same tone = stagnation. Different tones of the same colour = vibrancy and movement in the look. Vibrancy and movement in everything represents youthfulness ..... including in hair styling. Stagnation always gives a sense of being aged and of low energy.

In order to make my skin pop, I prefer to accessorize the black/white outfit with a colorful jacket, sweater, top, blouse, scarf, etc., etc. I also think that camel colored outfits are classy and bring out darker hued skin tones as well.

      Hi, Sarah. I have a friendly style tip. Dark charcoal grey doesn’t have the same clean, smart, affluent look as all black unless it’s a business suit. It just doesn’t have the same impact. I hope my comment added value to the dialogue.

    • @edennis8578
      @edennis8578 5 лет назад +2

      @@marcellax4556 It depends on the fabric, the style, and the accessories. I've had dresses and seperates that look every bit as lux in charcoal gray as in black because the fabric and style were gorgeous. There are also locations and situations where black isn't as appropriate (outside of the northeast or in court as a defendant, for example), so a wardrobe full of black just isn't going to cut it for everyone, whereas charcoal gray can go almost anywhere, any time.

    fantastic tips Erin! “Fabrics” can apply to jewelry and handbags too. I still prefer leather, but faux leather handbags can be beautiful and lux looking or awful and “Barbie playhouse”. Same with jewelry, a nice gold/silver plating can be as vibrant as the real thing but cheap worn finish on metal is a dead give-away. Your tip list is mine too and #14 is a personal favorite for sure. A somewhat fitted turtleneck with a blazer says “ I know who I am, I’m comfortable in myself” and that’s always sophisticated and chic (and a little bit sexy). Bravo 😁

      I was always very thin then I had my baby and was 25kg (55 Lbs) above my weight for a few months after the delivery. Things dont look so good as easily and I started spending lots of time trying to make the right outfit for my new body (and as I use to be a model I understand about outfits for each body type). For bags my weakness is Coach, I LOVE my mollie, that was a treat to myself after ankle surgery & recovery, I have six pieces total including a wallet, wristlet & little black purse, my crossbody & especially the zipper card case with the chain though are the two I currently seem to be using the most. For the other styles, I go with the 'amazon versions' ;) I have three amazon bags that are very similar to the iconic quilted Chanel bags, also an amazon version of the LV Pochette Metis, these four are a very small fraction of the designer price & equally as structured & stylish :)
    Jewelry, yes, I do prefer more simple, dainty, not looking like a Christmas tree... lol. My clothes, I followed the 80/20 rule & it made pulling pieces to pack for our upcoming trip so much easier! 80% classic pieces, 20% trend... I have the garment rack with what I plan to take, not many pieces but every single piece can be mixed & matched to make several outfits, more than enough for our little over one-week trip :)
    Oh, the camel coat... I found my dream vintage camel coat at an antique shop, it is a winter staple & I have gotten so many compliments on it, I love it!

    Loved all the tips! As always Erin, you looked lux in everything! : ) The last tips I agree are so important. A proper smooth foundation, proper fit/alteration are key. Personal polish with the perfect measure of confidence, no matter the price point you are wearing is lux! To add: Footwear in good condition with no signs of wear is a must too. : )

The other tips on accessories I love as I have invested money in great handbags and jewelry. I need to invest more in shoes. Thanks again. Retired but still styling.

    All good tips, though this almost 70 year old retiree is disinclined to head out for several hours in pointed toe shoes, after decades of scrunched toes. I do believe that women can be both stylishly classic and comfortable without causing pain. Speaking for the older women, who want to refresh or maintain stylish closets, I would like to point out that there are some stylish flats that look luxe. They have nicely cushioned inner soles with stable, yet flexible structure that is covered by nice quality leather that maintains support for the feet and shape for neat appearance. I choose various loafers without boxy thick toe areas or thick "clunky" rubber type soles. Flat flats or one inch heels, with tapered, though not pointed, toes are kind to aging feet and can be worn with jeans as well as dress slacks and suits. I do like low to mid-height heels with tapered toes with skirts and dresses, because tiny toes are simply dangerous for weak, older ankles. Reflexes to help one regain balance or catch when having a fall become problematic. One doesn't have to be approaching her seventh decade to need foot stability built into all shoes. This may sound like I am discussing a category of women who are inappropriate in watching your videos and reading your blogs. That isn't the case, because your style points about clothing are pertinent for every age and your color tips are right-on. I relate and adhere to most every style point that you suggest, except when they come to shoes. We older women need stability and safety to be of more concern than style, when style affects safety negatively. I have always felt like shoes are designed for men's enjoyment, rather than women's. I have always prefered comfortable shoes, and have worn Naturalizer, Life Stride, etc for stability, because I have always had to walk quite a lot on jobs, and I didn't want to cause myself hours of pain every day and perhaps even serious foot problems in the future. Looking forward to more from you. Barbara in the beautiful hills of middle Tennessee and Nashville, Music City.

      Barbara Brewer, I just bought a pair of Eastland shoes this week and love them! They are super cute flat shoes and comfortable right out of the box. I have foot problems and never wear heels anymore. They even have a memory foam insole. I am middle aged myself, not nearly as stylish as Busbee, but I maintain a classic New England look, more about the camel peacoat sort of thing (until it gets too cold) and rarely get into full dressy clothes too often.

      A little over 70, I had exactly the same reaction. There's a company called Naot (Israel) that make very attractive low shoes with good support. I have a bronze colored pair I love, and hardly wear any other brand. I do often find that low boots can be comfortable and look dressy.

      No kidding! Every one of their outfits is overdone. Too much of everything. As they have body types that are already overly enhanced, they should reduce what they put over them. To me they look like Christmas trees, the badly made up ones. Black on black, white on white, black and white together is a always go-to when we have money for only one outfit.

    The best items in my wardrobe are second hand, Ive got a 1970s tailor made cashmere coat, the equivalent today would cost a fortune (who has their coats made anymore? And from cashmere!) And Ive got a few really good leather handbags, also some dresses that were expensive once, but just a few £s from the charity shop. Ive recently cleared out my wardrobe, when I was finished I noticed these were the things I kept. The items Id bought new had dated and looked cheap. Im done with disposable fashion. Its better to have fewer good quality, second hand pieces than too many cheaper, lower quality new items. And these days we can say 'vintage' rather than 'second hand!'....The same goes for costume jewellery, Ive got beautiful vintage 1950s jewellery that cost the same as todays costume jewellery, but the quality is superior

    • @misslady3
      @misslady3 4 года назад +3

      I wonder this as well. I love my curls but I get more comments from coworkers about how I look more professional, my age, and prettier when my hair is straight or in that blow-out style. It's upsetting to think that just because I have my (beautiful) curls that my coworkers or boss thinks I look frumpy or not professional.
      Also, I do sometimes feel like my curls make me look younger (I'm 29 but commonly get mistaken for a 20 year old and frequently get treated like a teenager *sigh*). Sometimes I just want to look and feel my age but I have no idea how to keep my curls while doing so. I see straight-haired girls wear a lot of different hairstyles and I'd love to be able to have different styles that I could play with. Right now all I can seem to find are: wear your curls down, wear them in a ponytail, wear them in a messy bun, or straighten your hair. I also hear that we can put accessories in our hair but I always come out looking like a little girl who got into her mom's hair supply drawer.
      I LOVE my curls but I do sometimes wish I could have fun with them like straight-headed women do with their hair. I feel like your 20's and 30's are a time that you should be able to play and have fun with your style, and I'd love to do that with my hair as well.

    Black is the colour that the majority of people wear less well because it makes most people look very pale. I would recommend colour analysis to find your colour appropriate dark. The same with white, stark white can be just as harsh as black to some complextions. So use colour analysis to find if soft white or creams are more flattering for you. Then only choose the appropriate gold to the warm colours and silver with the cool.

    Fantastic video Erin! Have a few more comments if I may. 1. Buy used. Second hand >>> second rate. 2. Listen to Erin and make sure clothes fit perfectly. A jacket that won't button/zip with too long sleeves is going to make you look dumpy no matter how expensive it was. Ditto for jeans, if pockets are stretched to distortion, they are too long/short or the waist is gappy they look very Wal-Mart. 3. Don't wear cheap plastic earrings. I know they're trendy right now but they deflate the whole look.
