Maddux's Game 1 was one of the most dominant, least remembered starts in postseason history: CG, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 K against a team with a .694 W%, with 8 .300 hitters. But then, of course it's forgotten. What would a Maddux game be without people forgetting how incredible he was?
Maddox was a beast on the mound he could also hit you don't see that any more hell Steve Avery was hitting Homer's in 1995. I just can't believe right now everytime we catch the Mets tie them this year they catch up we were tied yesterday now the Mets lead by .5 games Braves better get it together for that repeat Worldseries and I hope we have to smash the Dodgers again only this time we will show why you don't turn on your team after a championship sweep them in 4 and head to the Worldseries #ChopHouse and leave the Braves name alone nothing wrong with being Brave and personally I'd be pissed if I was native American and they keep taking my teams away this is a prime example this series in this vid. the Indians are no more and for what so woke rich white people feel good about it when most all Native Americans don't mind having teams for the ones I know they're more pissed about being excluded. NFL Redskins Fans who are native Americans are pissed about that also
It was so amazingly frustrating to watch as a Cleveland fan. I'd actually moved to Cleveland from Chicago, and I dreaded watching Maddux pitching against Cleveland.
I think Greg Maddux is the greatest picture of the modern generation because he studied hitters and mastered his craft of getting batters out. He did not over exert himself by 100+ mph rather he knew tendencies to take advantage of the hitters weakness. The way he pitched should be studied for generations to come.
Maddux's performance in game 2 of the 1996 World Series was insane also. Dude was just a stud.
Agree with that - will never forget seeing this ferocious Indians lineup reduced to tapping weak ground balls around the infield all night.
Even though it wasn't that great of a stadium visually, I miss Fulton County Stadium, so many amazing memories
Lol FCS was a massive dump, but the memories I have there as a kid are priceless. I loved it no matter how ugly it was. I enjoyed Turner Field as well, it just didn’t have the history that Fulton County had. Truist might not be that old yet, but it’s getting it’s own glorious history over the last couple of years.
My childhood right here. Playing little league all stars. Huge braves fan from Tennessee. Both these teams were stacked with talent! Both teams were so fun. Braves should have 2 more rings.
Atlanta Braves ❤ 1995
Only Ken Griffey Jr could match Fred McGriff in regards to having the most beautiful swing in the history of the BIGS, Crime Dog's swing was second to none, the fact he isn't in the HOF, it kinda baffles me...
Glavine had the greatest game of his career in G6 WS95 when he allowed 1 hit to a that was a powerful as the Indians.
We're going to do it again this year wacth out Mets we are coming for you!! Bravo's tomahawk Chapin baby!
It's a shame these 2023 Braves sucked ass in the post season. The 1995 Braves could actually hit in the postseason. What a difference
A few random and fun notes:
1.) Carlos Baerga recorded the final out in 3 of his team's 4 losses.
2.) With the exception of 97 and 99, Fox has broadcast every WS game since.
3.) The win gave the Braves the distinction of being the first team to win in three cities (Boston 1914, Milwaukee 1957).
4.) Dave Justice was booed during Game 6 until his go-ahead HR due to comments about the lack of enthusiasm by fans compared to Cleveland.
5.) Javy Lopez' pick off of rookie Manny Ramirez was nominated for the ESPY Play of the Year 1996.
6.) The Indians won 100 games in a 144 game season. Their .694 W% was the highest by a team who lost the WS since...the 1954 Indians (.721)
7.) The Indians had 8 .300 hitters in their starting lineup.
8.) The Braves held the vaunted Indians to .179 during the series.
9.) Hall of Famers:
*Atlanta: 5: Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, C. Jones (edited in), Cox (Mgr)
*Cleveland: 2: Murray, Thome (with 4 more borderline: Lofton, Ramirez, Vizquel and Hershiser), plus Winfield actually played for them but did not make the WS roster.
10.) Steve Avery, the only member of Atlanta's starting rotation not in the Hall of Fame, won Game 4 in relief.
11.) 5 of 6 games were decided by one run (Braves +6 Total runs)
12.) Of Cleveland's 100 wins 48 come from behind wins, 27 walk offs, and they won their division by 30 games, and have the 12th highest WP% in history as of 2021.
13. This remains the highest rated WS since the strike of 1994 (Nielsen 19.5).
Steve Avery started the game, did not win in relief. It’s notable for being his only WS victory.
How do you miss Chipper Jones being a Hall of Famer?
Yeah Avery was bad ass though I'm surprised he's not in the Hall of fame he belongs hell of a lot better than a lot of them in the Hall. Plus I think 4 years ago Chipper Jones was inducted into the hall of fame. Those are some great statistics you gave us now we just got to hope we can bring a third to Atlanta October November will come and go before we know it I for one would like to see another Worldseries now and not have to wait 26 years again.
@@87Khein OH God! I did! My fault! I fixed it!
@@87Khein and now Crime Dog McGriff and Schuerholz (GM; I think).
As a Mets fan, this Braves team still gives me nightmares. One of, if not THE best rotation ever. A bunch of great hitters who always killed us, especially Chipper. As much as I hated that team, there’s really nothing that compares to that rivalry for me.
Man I loved this Braves team so much. As a kid playing lil league I remember I used to emulate The Crime Dog Fred McGriff's swing. He was my favorite player. He really did have such a big, beautiful, dramatic looking swing. He should be in the HOF.
Heck yes & we're going g back to back this year!
I can say I was there 1995 the city was partying it was wild for a 12 year old boy from Alabama I got my bace ball sign by chipper Jones I still have to day
Loves baseball of '80s and '90s 😘
amen
The Braves did everything in this series that they didn't do in the 4 WS they lost in the '90s. Clutch hitting, big contributions off the bench, great bullpen work and fantastic defense.
The first of two. I was 7 years old watching this World Series. Two Native American teams. Indians vs. Braves. My favorite player at the time was Fred McGriff (Crime Dog) who is finally in the Hall of Fame. Fred McGriff started the huge statement & was the guy who made me a Braves fan with TBS in 1993. David Justice ended it despite everyone mad for a valid reason. Luckily Justice was served & he saved the Braves with my favorite pitcher Tom Glavine. When it ended I was bouncing on the walls. It was a Saturday night. Dad wanted me to go to bed. My mom said just let him, he will tire out. Oh I did later in the night but was knocked out for 12 hours as a kid. You don't see that anymore for anyone 7 years old.
Fun Fact: I met Glavine in 2019 at the CWS in Omaha. Met Smoltz in 2013 at the CWS in Omaha as well as Kenny Lofton in 2016 and yes at the CWS & got autographs from each of them those years.
Amé. Amo y amaré a los Bravos por siempre. Mi equipo de todos los tiempos.
Skip Caray’s commentary was unrivaled. Miss him and Pete.
Add 2021 to the list
This team was a blast in the 90s unfortunaly only just 1 World series but many division championship and national league champions very good team
I was there that night...upper deck behind home plate...great seats...I could see everything...it seems so long ago...in fact, it's two stadiums ago...my greatest sports highlight of my life. Braves Win!!
The umpires we're so far up the braves ass maddux could have rolled the ball up there and they would have called a strike....
Bless your heart
Baerga prolly wants to forget that series, made the final out 3 times 😂
HERMODOD RECUERDOS DE MI INFANCIA Y HASTA EL DIA DE HOY BRAVES ❤
Glavine Maddux Avery Smoltz...what a lineup
One year after that, Yankee dynasty started.
96 was a heartbreaker for Braves fans. I was so excited games 1 and 2 of World Series. Then my heart broken 4 straight games after that
@@amy5262 I will love to see Yankees and Braves in 2022 World Series. Hopefully.
2024: Lopez is a magical name for this team.
Baerga was the last out in all the turner fields game
Miss these days but they are back doing it again
Chop on chop on 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
I liked Skip Caray call better on the final out
He’s a really biased commentator tho
It's amazing to see the class players had back then, but now baseball players show much more emotion. Such a stark difference between baseball now and then, but LOVE THEM BOTH.
Love the Braves saw this when I was 12 after watching losing to the Twins and Toronto I think twice then 26 years later I saw it again at 38 will I see it at 39 Braves and Mets now tied for 1st place in the division with about 9 games left LFG I LIKE DIVISION TITLES BUT AS LONG AS WE GET A REPEAT ILL BE HAPPY AND IN THE NLCS I HOPE ITS THE DODGERS AND WE SEND FREEMAN A MESSAGE YOU DON'T LEAVE A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM BRAVES SWEEP DODGERS IN 4 FREEMAN 2 FOR 17 IN THE SERIES A SINGLE AND INTENTIONAL WALK SEND HIS ASS BACK TO LA. #GOBRAVES
The Cleveland Indians are a charter member of the American League (1901). For whatever reason, they've only decided to win 6 pennants.
U could tell there was no way the braves weren’t going to win a World Series that year after so much heartbreak for them
The best team of all time, love me the lemmer
No way. Great team yes. But above the 27 Yankees, the 98 Yankees or Big Red Machine teams of the mid 70's? Absolutely not.
Great memories, my Momma and two daughters were alive then!
It was a great World Series
If it weren't for the Yankees, the Braves would have won 3 championships easy.
They lost to the twins marlins and jays lol..not just the yanks
braves had 3 of the best pitchers of all time at the same time. 🔥🔥🔥
Too bad they got their asses kicked in the 91 World Series by the twins
No they didn't. In fact, they actually had +5 net runs in that series, and lost four games by a combined 6 runs. You want to say they lost, that's fine, but losing in the 10th inning of Game 7 (all because of a key baserunning mistake) is hardly an ass-kicking. Frankly, with all the shit we learned about the Twins after the fact, you could say it was stolen from them. Let me refresh:
1. Recall how the Twins artificially piped noise into the dome at key moments?
2. Or Kent Hrbeck's fat ass throwing Ron Gant off first base?
3. Or the fact that Kirby Puckett (and his famed "Jose Canseco milk shakes") was likely one of the steroid pioneers?
Again, it was one of the greatest series in history, and the Twins won it fairly. But don't be counterfactual.
@@americankulak2294 Let me refresh. Kent Hrbek, Kirby Puckett, and the twins beat the braves ass in 91. We can have a pity part about loud noises and milkshakes, but frankly, I’m not a little bitch. As if braves players weren’t juiced up.
and in 1999 by the Yankees
@@Noticerofthings lol it went 7 games. The Twins stink
@@Noticerofthings all they do is lose to the Yankees
