Thanks Ray for bringing us down to the club, Haley got to sit in with the Band. Irvin took an amazing solo as well. This is a good combination of artist if you ask me.Completely spontaneous and perfect.
Think about this. Haley performed "Creep" in one take, which is amazing. This, however, is even more amazing. She is a walk on, no different than an open mic night. But, she is walking on to sing with a Grammy winning trumpet player and his band. And, with about 2 minutes of discussing how to do the song, she absolutely kills it and impress Irvin to the point of him having her sing with his band at Carnegie Hall in NYC. She is a force of nature.

Haley is so refreshing! She isn't just going through the motions. She isn't just trying to be technically accurate. She's got soul. She feels it.

Mayfield sure likes what he's hearing. I understand he Tweeted "love at first hear", when he heard Haley sing.
Watching Irvin Mayfield's first time reactions is priceless. 6 years later and watching her perform a couple hundred songs live since, Irvin & I are still blown away.
I'm pretty sure this confirms the fact that she's the best overall contestent in American Idol history. She can literally do anything, include out-scat a professional jazz musician.
Casey became a Haley fan early in Season 10 and this just shows the character of this talented young man. To selflessly film this entire performance and upload it for all to enjoy shows the depth of his affection for Lady Reinhart. Of course Casey always came across as genuine, talented and likeable...this just shows how much class he really has.
I never tire of her singing. I have never been a fan of any singer in particular, until her. She just stole my heart away from the first time I heard her. Her appreciation of music is such a wonderful quality in a singer of her age. She is loved by people of all ages. She is my all time favorite singer.
This is one of the finest renditions of God Bless the Child I have ever heard. It must have been powerful to see that magic happen in that club.
Haley KILLS IT! Then takes the time to personally thank each musician in the group. Class act!
One doesn't just learn to do this. You're either born to do it, or you're not, and Haley was born to do this. She's so flipping awesome that is crazy!!
What a great performance. She blew everyone away and sat the bone man down. I hope we see more gems like this, Haley dropping into a club and jamming on a song.

Haley will become one of the iconic stars. We didn't hear and see yet the best of her. She continues constantly to grow artistically. It is what great artists do and Haley is one of them.

This is the kind of spontaneity that's only possible with serious jazz musicians (and Haley is proving herself to be among them). One important skill it to recognize when a teammate has the hot hand, and hand the ball off. Hat's off to MW for doing that--it's a sign of generosity and musicianship.
BTW--Mayfield, at about 7:33, gives Haley the same (approving) nod as the backup singer gave her in Rolling in the Deep (on that stupid TV show).

Saw Irvin and Haley at Chicago Theater last night and just HAD to see this video again. Crazy fantastic! What a moment.
I don't know about you all but putting these 2 together was pure magic and Carnegie Hall in October with them together will be magic.
this is just pure magic, and this is talent...raw talent..this thing they had at the end...its something you cant learn...you have it or you dont...and they have it!!!! there is no doubt!!!
Those of us who have followed Haley from the beginning, or any new 'Halien' (e.g. hooked on Haley, addicted to Haley, etc, etc) are NOT surprised by anything she does vocally. What is truly fun to watch is how many times Irvin Mayfield shakes his head in AWE. What a compliment, and an affirmation that our love her her is well-placed!!!
I get the chills when she growls! This is priceless. Wish I could have been there. Imagine if we get to see Haley doing this in a club near us some day. I'm there!
Not a song I like much but, ye Gods, a brilliant duet when she's scatting with Irvin Mayfield's trumpet. It would be great to hear this really well recorded but I'm glad to be able to listen to this. Even more impressive when you consider how Kevin 15301 says it happened.
You can tell Irvin Mayfield was hooked the second after Hayley started to sing. He's now got the fever! Welcome to the club! ! !
The Hows and Whys of Haley being on stage at Irvin Mayfield's along with the darkened room just add to the whole mysteriousness of this girl. She slips up on stage casually talking with the band and then proceeds to effortlessly produce some of that smokin Haley magic. Another delicious appetizer on the way to the main course...arriving soon hopefully.
Outstanding she really captures the essence of Billie Holiday....what a young gem of an artist
it has been some time since I watched this. It is still my favorite Haley performance. Perfect, unexpected, organic.

My daily silent prayer is Please God, Give her a hit song. I would love to see her tear the charts up the first time out. I think she always knew she could really sing, but I think now she knows she capable of more than she knew. When I heard her do Deedle Blues, Lovefool, Oh Darlin, Night and Day, I knew she was going to be one of the greats. People don't sing like her anymore and thats what music today is lacking.
She changes a song every time and it's always great..She never gets boring!
This is so utterly amazing that it brought a tear to my eye. Sublime, powerful and supremely musical, this video confirms for me what a world-class talent Haley is--and she is only 21! I have been watching this multiple times and I'm not done yet. Oh, my goodness. Achingly good.

The more you see of Haley the more you see why she did not win idol. She is very good live but her performances live so nuanced that you have to see them over and over to appreciate how good she really is. The subtly of her voice is remarkable. Its as much about vocal instrument as it is a musical instrument.

I was there! And unfortunately had to sing after her! I was sooo ready to go home! But the best part of this video is that this is ALL ON THE FLY!!! She and Casey just happened to come in to the Playhouse that night. So no previous rehearsals... JUST RAW!

In the olden days, jazz singers would fashion their voices to sound like a musical instrument, hence the scatting. This video proves that Haley has the chops to do just that. She really does seem to have an old soul and interprets music exceptionally. Can't wait for the album

I've watched this several times and like everything else I've seen of hers it just gets better each time.This is about as un Idol of a setting or performance that you can imagine but Haley shows that she's just as effective at a slow burn like this as she is letting it all hang out on the Idol stage.
The back and forth with Irwin at the end is just priceless.
And this is why Haley is the most AMAZING AMERICAN IDOL EVER. And Irvin WOW.

My God Haley!!! VERY few young artists now are singing soul music like this and i'm so glad she went on American Idol to show all these people what real music is. And that trumpeter was trying to play Haley lol.

Well this is obviously lost on you. This is impromptu, unrehearsed the song and the dueling with the trumpet is an orgasm for the ears its perfection. She is an amazing singer of blues Jazz n rock. And there is nothing better. You may think Cry Me A River is amazing and you're not wtong but this can't be topped. Imo
I'm willing to give Interscope a chance. I think Jimmy Iovine knew that Haley was something special as soon as he met her. The fact that they are giving her time to make the album is encouraging.

Got this from Casey Abrams. This is great. Haley's destined to be a real force in jazz and rock. This reminds me of all the jamming Ella and Roy Eldridge would do with him challenging Ella by riffing with his horn and Ella matching and embellishing. Great fun and a harbinger of greatness to come.

We know that it is going to be really special too. Haley is not only very talented and beautiful, she is smart and wants to put out a great music.

The Straight-Haired Haley look works well in the Jazz genre which she does so well! The Curly-maned Haley is so beautifully sexy for all other genres. There is absolutely no former Idol that has so many different high quality facets to offer the entertainment world as Ms. Haley Reinhart. We also got a glimpse of Haley's playful vocal interaction with instruments in her HOTRS ending at Lollapalooza with Keith's Keyboard. Not here to do anything but appreciate the music . Every time I listen to Haley I discover something new. Music at it's best touches your soul. For any that can't love this girl, why come to her videos? There is plenty of cookie-cutter music out there to bash, but I just don't bother, it's not worth my time

This is jazz the way it should be sung. Smoky, subtle and a bit understated. No need to growl or grandstand here. Most of it is improvised, which demands a bit of rapport between the players. Great job by Haley and the band. Had a feeling she couldn't resist doing something like this during her swing down in 'Nawlins.

Listen to that voice and talent...does Haley really NEED any of her Idol fans (I'm one to be sure) to become a major success? It would certainly jump-start her career a bit; but she can become a STAR without us (if we somehow 'forgot' about her). When Interscope get's Haley on the radio-- and they will to be sure-- then a new legion of Haliens will be born. I know I'll never forget her, and will wait patiently for her to record a kick-azz album!
