    When young I drove a well tuned Rally style Ford Escort Mexico, bucket seats, roll cage, suspension, brakes and engine upgraded. BIG prob was it was ridiculously easy to steal, so I fitted an extra switch hidden very cleverly behind door skin driver side (invisible) that acted as physical circuit break, made it impossible to start even if had key. Never got stolen, even though 3 times it was entered and attempted. In modern times this could be a very simple answer and very few young criminals would think about this....

    Blow their tool up. Easy enough to do with a relocated OBD port, a dummy installed in its place, four smoke alarm batteries and some creative interpretation of the OBD wiring diagram. Anyone who plugs anything into the connector that sits behind the OBD cover on my car is going to get an impressive fireworks display, but not much else. :)

    Had a fiesta zetec s with keyless start stolen a few years ago, somehow they got past the alarm and dead locks without smashing the window. Just found the outside of the car door lock ring on the ground.
    The replacement car was a Metal, made sure it had a transponder key, and paid about £100 to have the obd moved into a lockable box up in the dash.

    The messed up thing about that is ford sued a OBD diagnostic company over being able to interface with their cars but they should be more worried about stuff like this then they are trying to limit who can work on them.

    I never knew ODB port car theft was a thing. Just seen a comment on a FB post by our local police saying Ford vans are being stolen and a comment there mentioned ODB port theft, and I was like... WHAT? HOW?... genius of the thieves, but the ODB port clearly has a major security flaw if they can start the car with it. Glad to know there is upgraded security available should I ever get a decent car and need to worry about this type of theft. Although I do feel manufacturers should offer a free security upgrade, ODB patch or something - to prevent this happening in the first place.

    Mass production of any vehicle means a thief will gen up on that vehicle and get tooled up for it ...
    Once they for example know a Ford Focus or Transit, they will have it away in seconds ....end of ...
    The best thing anyone can do is to make their security individual so that as the thief will only have seconds and will scarper if things don't work for him as usual...There are hundreds more cars for him to choose from so if yours is a little harder then it'll be a lot safer
    Fit aftermarket alarms etc (and please don't put a sticker in your window letting the thief know what alarm you have fitted)....For cars, fit aftermarket security barrels as again the thief is well versed on the car he is stealing....
    Most cars you can move the OBD connector and fit a factory looking fake ...You can wire the fake one too so he'll get the readings but can't start the car...You could be a bugger and wire and nasty voltage to the fake so it blows his box of tricks up :) :)
    Consider a locking pedalbox...They'll look through the window and just move on 99% of the time ...Modern thieves just don't like hard work, they love electrics ...
    Another thing that isn't mentioned is that thieves also capture your key signal through your letterbox at night and simply open your car and drive off with no fuss....DON'T leave your car keys in the hallway ... Hang your keys a lot further away and maybe upstairs

  • @JayCras
    @JayCras 6 лет назад +1

    Seriously? Nobody does anything when the alarm goes off. Think low tech. Put a hidden switch in line with ignition. If for some reason a thief is bothered by the horn honking once he has opened up your car they just pop the hood and either pull out the horn wiring or pull the relay. Total time like 20 or 30 seconds.
    On the not exactly the same topic honking the horn to see if you locked the car you just left is a fantastic way to annoy people who happen to be in front of it.
    Another low tech idea is to remove all wireless connections so that hackers don't have another remote "exploit" If any of this annoying technology has a point I personally don't think its worth it.

      +Securemycar An RF & RFID detector & logger can be used make a proximity key. Then you need the OBD programmer. Now we are into it for over well $10,000 USD, or 7000 British Pound Sterling, plus the time to program the RFID codes & the right radio freqs. There is good money in taking cars.........for banks. They want to resell those repossessed cars, in tact. You never know if the owner will try to kill your, or help you push their POS car out to the tow truck, & thank you, for letting them remove their personal property & hauling it off. We prefer to never see the owner, or debtor, or whatever you call them.

      You don't even need a programmer, as the car is one too. Buy keys from eBay quite cheap. All you need to do is put it in a mode to write new keys which the devices shown in the video can do, sit in the driver's seat with it and it will be activated to be used with the car. Most expensive part is the replacement of the window, a new set of keys for £10.

      relearn idle procedure etc transmission would need to relearn gear information. meaning your car would never get optimal performance or fuel economy ever and it would probably dramatically decrease the cars life
      absolutely the most stupid thing I have ever read.

    points out thecweakness of a single layer secutity system. factory antitheft systems on mass produced cars are a cruel joke reflected by the small insurance discount for having one.
    a car "secured' by a factory system that isn't smart enogh to not arm with the windows open. antitheft ignition disable negated by keyless ignition. exposed physically unprotected obb port that should be inaccessible when the car is "secured." (There is no federal requirement that the odb be exposed )
    a cheap sonic glass break detector with internal keypad could prevent a thief from getting past the closed windows.

    why not just cover the OBD with a lock or move the OBD port to the trunk, under the hood or into the glove box. as the owner how often do you access the OBD port? it seems the weakest link is the OBD port and theft of the vehicle depends on access to the OBD port. i'm sure a length of wires or lock is much cheaper than what you are selling. LOL

    @Securemycar The ultimate way to stop people stealing your car is to remove the steering wheel,i'm sure Mr Bean did this years ago, sounds crazy yes,but no one is going to even think about staling it with no steering wheel. Manufacturers need to make a quick release system.
    Further to that manufacturers could make a part of the ignition system that you remove when you leave it parked, sort of like a physical small black box,which is under the bonnet and you slide out and without it,the car will never start or take the car battery with you :) they wont expect that one.

    • @imconfused1237
      @imconfused1237 6 лет назад +1

      Exactly. All these tech toys are pure mickeymouse. They’re approaching a problem in the wrong way. I have a hidden switch in my car which disables various elements required in the ignition sequence.

    • @SP330Y
      @SP330Y 6 лет назад

      where is this hidden switch? :)only kidding, things like no battery stop it being stolen,maybe a part of the car that can be removed like a small electronic device which you take with you that pulls out withing seconds and makes the car totally unstealable, even if they have the same part its sort of coded to that vehicle only.

      Steering wheel not needed on a steer by wire setup like on this Ford and practically every last model vehicle. Theoretically you could easily turn it into a full scale rc car with a little determination.

    Scaremongering of the highest degree and order and to be honest if they want something bad enough they will have it regardless of what is done to stop them

    • @sarahblackburn1
      @sarahblackburn1 6 лет назад

      It's far from scaremongering and the stealing of Transits id rampant to say the least ...Ford have even recalled the MK8's for a software upgrade (that's not good enough either
      With mass production, each owner has to think how to make their vans more secure...A thief knows all the standard settings ... The more individual you make your security, then the less likely a thief will take your car or van
