That’s great that you introduce your child to what I grew up with and I’m 74. Learned typing in HS at the age of 16. Been typing ever since. I only use manual typewriters. I have 18 of them. 90% the great Smith Corona. From the 40’s through the 60’s.you fantastic painting. I wish I was your next door neighbor.
Thanks for the great video, Todd! The "f" and "ij" key on the Gossen Tippa is there because this machine was made for the Dutch market in the 1950s. The "f" symbol was used to designate guildens, the Dutch unit of money until the Euro started being used in the 2000s, and this symbol was used similarly to how we use the $ Dollar sign. The "ij" symbol is a unique letter in the Dutch language, and by using this key on the keyboard the Dutch typist saves him or herself a keystroke-- the person doesn't have to type both an "i" and a "j".
Howdy and thanks. Yes, I do my own painting. I own a small typewriter shop and enjoy custom painting some machines. The Royalites in particular are transformed by vibrant colors. www.etsy.com/shop/lazydogtypewriters

Hi David! Thanks so much for sharing your insight. We get smarter every time someone watches one of these videos -- that's why we need a 1000 subs :)
Smith-iter! I want me one of those. Great video!
I always think of these as the quintessential ultra-portable design. Brilliant!
What is the difference between a Royal Royalite and a Royal Companion. Your video answered my question. I may be buying a Companion Made in Holland.
But do we get the carbon?
Snazzy looking machines! I’m beginning to suspect that you guys just MIGHT like Royalites ...
These are great! How did you get the Royal emblem off without breaking it?
Thanks! I used a small punch and a soft block to very cautiously punch out the logo. Fortunately none broke.
What is the first royalist u showed what are they worth
I have one that is in mint shape
Prices vary greatly depending on your local market and condition. these had all been fully serviced and custom painted.
Hello from a (as of yesterday) Royalite owner! Great video -- do you do your own painting, and if not, who does? Thanks!

@@LazyDogTypewriters Beautiful work! Thanks!
How do you type a number 1 on a royalite?
Hi, on any machine without a dedicated 1, typists use the lower case L for numeral 1. An exclamation mark is built using a . backspace apostrophe :)
How do I buy a machine like this and where to buy it
Please share the link and guideness
Hi, lots of options, at least in the US. We have an Etsy store called LazyDogTypewriters but we don't ship overseas. good luck
