DIY Basketball Hoop Restoration: from crappy plastic to nice looking wood

When we moved into the new house last year, we found this old and battered basketball hoop, among other things.
Since I don't like to just throw away still usable stuff, it has been on my todo list for a while to do a renovation, trying to save as much of the original materials, while replacing the ugly plastic board with something made out of wood.
With some simple tools, paint and a bit of patience the result was better than I originally expected.
Let me know in the comment section if you're interested in details about the materials used. It's nothig really fancy.
