      Once upon a time ASUS was far and away the best motherboard manufacturer on the market. They've let their quality slip over the past few years, and other companies have caught up in quality and performance. Combine that with widespread institutional issues with customer care and they've lost any advantage or goodwill they had built a decade ago.

      Nearly all brands that send you an RMA replacement, send out a barely tested (testing with something that is not actually go to stress the product at all) and sometimes barely given a look over at it physically. Its standard practice it seems - because why provide good support when meh will do just fine. If something is being sent out as just-as-good-as-new which is what an RMA should be for something like a mobo or add-in card of any kind, then better tests and a look over the item to make sure it's not marred and is clean is necessary, and really, should be legally required.

    This is very similar to the experiences (In the US) I had with my Asus Z97-WS. They sent me 3 bad boards as "replacements" too. The fun part was the third replacement they sent me was the same board as the first one, so it was actually 4 swaps. This took me over a year to get through, so be glad you've gotten much faster responses than I did.
    Now, it's pretty normal for any company to send refurbished (previously used, returned for some reason) REPAIRED items as a replacement, however, these should be WORKING, and in good, sellable condition. Asus doesn't do that. I don't think they bother to repair anything.
    I have sworn off buying ANY new Asus products. I have bought a couple discounted "open box" boards from them, but just because they were not going to get any additional money from me for those. Oddly, those two boards worked perfectly.

  • @RB-pc7tg
    @RB-pc7tg 22 дня назад +6

    Coming from someone in PCBA manufacturing, not every board that comes out of the oven is perfect. They do need hand soldering to repair issues. Hand soldering can be close to how the stencil printer and pick/place machine do it, but most time it’s just done to an acceptable level. For consumer grade products, it’s a class 1 or class 2. The highest class 3, is for aero space, military or medical devices. Just because it’s touched up doesn’t mean it’s a previous failure and RMA. The chip in the edge is not supposed to be there as the edges are cut by routing tools. However a lot of the times if the damage is minor, it will fly as long as there aren’t internal traces nearby. I’ve seen bad/damaged bare PCBs come from the manufacturing house as well with scrapes and imperfections. Parts like heat shields, heat spreaders, covers etc are all manufactured and shipped together. Generally they are wrapped or separated so scratching doesn’t happen, but sometimes it does. It doesn’t mean that it’s used, it could mean that it wasn’t handled with care. To me, I feel like if you don’t understand how boards and parts are manufactured and you’re going based off the look of the end result, then this can be very misleading. However, they are definitely supposed to be working, so there is no excuse for that. The thermal paste can come from in house testing, but I don’t know their processes so I have no excuses in that regards. If they want the appearance of new, they should use thermal pads if they do in fact use paste.

    • @peoplez129
      @peoplez129 2 дня назад

      Not every board that comes out is perfect, but it should be pretty rare. Anyone who has ever seen how boards are made, know it's a highly controlled and automated process with extreme precision, practically like 3D printing. Having to RMA a new product, to only get a used or repaired product with issues, is simply not acceptable, especially for a board that is still in production and clearly having many issues. It would seem more like boards are being simply passed around between multiple customers until one eventually gives up with the RMA process entirely, at which point the board then exits circulation, and ends up in the trash while the customer just goes out and buys something else, taking the loss.

  • @AlphaMachina
    @AlphaMachina 27 дней назад +14

    From my experience, no company has ever sent a new component for RMA. Even with EVGA, they sent me a refurbished GPU, and then that GPU crapped out a couple of weeks later, so they sent me another refurbished GPU, and that GPU crapped out 2 months later. During this time, I had to tie up the cost of the GPU as collateral while they advance shipped me the replacement cards. Then after I complained, they finally sent me a brand new GPU, but they didn't have anymore 2080 Super's, so I got a brand new 3070 Ti as a replacement.
    Gigabyte also sent me a refurbished motherboard as a replacement for my motherboard at one point in the past. So, yeah. Unfortunately, this is nothing new.

      I mean, How many CPU coolers do you think fail "catastrophically" enough to end up with NZXT for them to be able to refurb the item to send as a replacement for another RMA? It's a simplistic product in comparison, And they "had" to send out a "New" one because they probably don't have any other way to satisfy your claim.

      I had a similar experience about 2 decades ago with a sound card, except the cards I was getting back - for my new, not even month old card I sent in which was broken out of the box - were FAR worse than the boards he was getting back. Ended up settling on a water-logged card which at least functioned as I didn't want to deal with them anymore.
      Many have had poor experiences for a long time now. I wager most just don't care to fight it. It's taxing dealing with ASUS support.

    one of the really informative parts of the Gamers Nexus video (I think the part 2 video but may be wrong on that) was the comment from one of the lawyers being interviewed who said that once I think they said the US Government get 100 formal complaints along these lines they can then take formal action and start forcing a change so I would encourage everyone to also watch the GN video because I can't remember exactly what the procedure is and what the outcome can end up being if enough people jump onboard with entering a proper complaint because we all want change for the better. For me this is not about wanting to damage a business/brand that I too have come to love over the years. I do not want to see ASUS taken out of the game I want to see them here into the future and continue producing fantastic products but this is only going to be the case if they stop screwing their customers. Their behaviour is totally unacceptable from a company whose stature should mean that things like this should never EVER happen in the first place. They need to be held to account for this.

    Hi ! I work in a company that is an official Asus retailer in Europe, and I am actually part of the RMA team, I repair anything branded ASUS ( idfk how to call it ) . And even for us it's a mess to get a component that is not used and we've come to a point where, when we repair anything and its still not working with a component we ordered, we cannot really figure out if it comes from us doing something wrong or Asus that sent us a faulty component. And I am surprised they sent you so many motherboards for the same problem, because most of the time, after we RMA the same component twice, they start blocking us from ordering more components. And if it comes in a brown box like you get, its always used.

    I bought this same motherboard about a week ago, and before opening the box, contacted Asus Support to determine the BIOS installed on it (it needed v. 2002 or later to use the CPU and 192 GB RAM I purchased).
    Asus assured me this board's manufacture date (February 2024) indicated it had either v. 2002 or v. 1904, a 50-50 chance the board would work for me.
    So I opened the case and unsealed the board: it was BIOS v. 1801, dating from December of 2023 (the 2002/1904 versions were released the month of manufacture). I had to take the motherboard somewhere to have the BIOS updated to the most recent version.
    Something is very, very wrong at Asus, and it's not limited to their RMA Department.

But mostly use it for gaming and it works perfect still like the day I bought it to this day. It's been a tank of a laptop. Plus hp has a youtube channel showing you how to take it apart and fix it your self if need be. And has links to oem parts for replacing. I used a video on their page recently to replace the thermal paste this year on my laptop. Step by step of how to do it "I'm do it your self kind if person so I'm all for it" Temps were getting a little toasty and the thermal paste dried which happens on any electronic that uses thermal paste and I replaced it and all is good once again. I have no need to replace my laptop atm but when I do need to again I will be buying HP once again hands down no questions asked. They will have my business as long as they stay the way they are atm. Used MSI from Z77, Z170. My friends used MSI Z370 and Z390. Except for Z77, all are gaming motherboard. It all died OR half of its become unusable right after the warranty expires, and they aren't even overclocked. 1 RAM slot or 2 (for another channel) completely goes blank---as though it's been removed/reinserted many times---which no one does, not even my system.
      Tried Gigabyte Z270, gaming motherboard, so far, it went pretty well for 4 years--not even OC, just XMP, and decided to use it on my system Z590 (been running since 2021).
      My second PC used Asrock Z270, not gaming, but an ITX PC, pretty OK, but feature set between mid to high is a huge fall off. It feels like ASROCK mid-range mobo feels like it is low-end. This was switch to ASUS Z490, because of limited mATX set---so far, knowing ASUS' shitty let bios optimised way before Jayz2Cents, this was heavily configured to run at stock, and slightly power limited (10700K runs at 85W PL1 and 115 PL2). So far, nothing.

    In the UK with the long distance selling act, you can return an item within 30 days for a full refund, as long as it's obviously not been damaged by the customer. If returning it as you don't want it anymore, you will have to pay for the return but if it's DOA or was damaged by the courier, Etc you can get a full refund but for a replacement, you do run the risk of getting a used item, but I'd suggest you ask for a new item, as they may try and pull a fast one. For sending the item back, go with a service they either recommend or if it's left upto you, go for a good courier that has insurance that covers the item you're sending back, I usually do DPD Local or Royal Mail.
    In this instance, the board has been sent back for RMA after the 30 day period, so it's upto them to either repair it or replace it for a like for like, so a used board for a used board, they may send out a new product to replace the used product but that's at their discretion. But with them repeatedly returning products in a worse state and non functional, you're entitled to a refund. They may try and take some money off for however long you had the item, but this is on the company to decide however I would argue that due to the poor handling of the RMAs, that the reduction in a refund should be waived. If you're not happy with what they offer, if they're being unreasonable by sending multiple dead and very well used boards, then your next go to is FInancial Ombudsman. They will act on your behave but will be unbias. They'll look at what has gone on, and if they think that the company has been giving you the run around, Etc they will not only issue you the full refund but will also add a goodwill gesture depending on how long and how bad things were throughout the process. They also keep logs of complaints made against all companies and if enough complaints get made against a specific company, then they can investigate.
    This is for Tech Notice and anyone else who is having issues with Asus or whichever other company.

      I used to work at a RMA repair center for HP/Compaq laptops. As long as they have repaired stock that's what they'll send out. Obviously if they don't get a lot of returns of a specific SKU they don't have a choice but to send out a new unit, but most companies will only do that as a last resort

    You bought 2 new motherboards other than the ones included in the RMA process? Why the hell would you do that? Are there no other motherboard brands out there? Is ASUS the only one? Does this particular model offer you something that is worth all of this bullshittery?

This is what puts food on the table for them, and there employees if they have them, people are people. If ASUS lined my pockets, my employees pockets, gave me all the equipment for content I'd be singing there praises until I absolutely couldn't anymore because me, and my family need health insurance, and my employees special needs son is in an expensive school program (just random off the top examples.)

    • @dianaalyssa8726
      @dianaalyssa8726 27 дней назад +2

      Have had success with RGB using OpenRGB on both Asus TG Z690s, if you are looking to try that it's free and less bloatware. At least you can boot now and are stable though. Sometimes it is scary to touch a stable system. Mine had the USB issues switched over time Windows 10/11/now Nobara Linux honestly am stable and can't be bothered anymore adjusting. Did BIOS updates and everything though, ram tuning, OS swapping etc to be stable. At least the debug leds for me came in handy (both Asus Z690 and Asrock B760M have them).

    • @def-po8tu

    I also had to RMA my Z790 ProArt, and Asus needed 2 months to fix it, trying it's best not to fix it saying first the cpu socket was damaged, then that the damage is actually something else unfixable, then that it was water damage... also no advanced RMA for me it looks like.
    Lucky me i bought it from an official ASUS store, and they helped me mediate. So if you also received a motherboard with a burned PCIE slot, that's mine. EU

    I was a asus fan boy myself. And sold lot of asus gear. If I ever had an issue they had account managers I could talk to and everything sorted itself out. But - then they started saving money by cutting out human resources. Effectivisation they called it. Chinglish and cringe. Sure enough not long after they did this there started being a raise in issues with their gear. Including my own asus gaming laptop I never ended up getting fixed. This was about 10 years ago for reference. So the rot has been happening a long time in Asus. Steady decline due to corporate greed. The next one I predict to end in the same boat is Samsung. They learned from Asus how important it was with a good sales network that could actually sort issues for the retailers. At one point Samsung had a team of 12 account managers for just Norway and won the market fast quick and in a hurry. Now this is on the decline due to much the same reasons. And we saw the same happen earlier with Sony. It’s the first sign of dark clouds on the horizon. When the human resource locally go away things go south as there is no one to hold accountable.

    The way this has been going, you might want to keep that last RMA board around, just in case your new board finds a new way to bring another fresh hell into your workflow! It's truly maddening to think that ASUS considers this an adequate amount of support for a professional use case.

    Is that advanced RMA an automated process or something? I had similair experience with a fridge. Looked like they send me an already returned one without checking. Was not Asus tho.
    But part of it was cause it was almost fully automated process of ordering and sending. So a retailer might have send it back as a good status while it not. So it gets back into the products to be shipped.
