RIP Andy ...you will be missed by so many ❤🌹
He will be missed indeed ❤
Cannot believe that I am getting so old that the Smiths slowly disappearing.
RIP, Andy.
Fantastic bassist and key pillar of the greatest band of all time.
People die young also, if you hadn't noticed.
@@jimnewcombe7584
Noticed.
Your point being?
@@pippipster6767 That you don't need to have aged to witness people die.
@@jimnewcombe7584
I get that point … and whilst 59 is young it is not exceptionally young.
The Smiths debut album was released in 1984 - 38 years ago !!
I get the (obvious) point you’re making.
I think it is a bad point.
Yeah, and Depeche Mode's Andrew Fletcher just died last year at age 60. Where has the time gone?
Respect to ITV. A lovely tribute
Agree. Makes a change.
well said Andy.
I haven’t seen any coverage at all
Agreed Andy 👍
The Latino community here in Los Angeles remembers 🌷🎸🎼 Andy.
Viva our rockabilly hero.
RIP Andy, you and your bandmates meant so much to so many of us, never to be forgotten.
Absolutely on the point.
What a lovely tribute to this wonderful musician. RIP Andy, you absolute legend.
Very sad to hear ,Andy's bass lines were so unique and clever .Rest in Peace Andy .
Such a talent. I never knew how great of a bassist he was until I learned several Smiths tunes.
He was awesome "the headmaster ritual " , "You've got everything now " etc , etc , etc .
Andy was a true gentleman, he supported my old band about 15 years ago when we had no money to record, he saw something in us and wanted to help, he borrowed us his personal 8 track portable recording studio and we recorded our first demos on it, i we accidentally erased what we thought was the demo song that came as standard on the machine and when he told us that was a track that himself, Peter hook and mani we’re working on for his new band Freebase we were mortified, you know what he said? He just laughed, called us nobs and said “Don’t stress, I think hooky’s got a backup on his laptop, it’s okay”
Anyone else would have gone apeshit , not Andy. I wish you a safe journey to wherever you are going to next brother, it was my pleasure to meet you and consider you a friend. R.I.P x
That's a lovely story (I don't mean a story as made up!) Pretty cool and funny but a great memory to share, thanks
When we were teenage indie fans forming guitar bands none of us could ever hope to play like Marr or Rourke, they were both on another level. Sad news indeed.
One of the best bands of all time of any era.
You are delusional
The last three words are superfluous.
@@jimnewcombe7584 Glad you agree
@@jimnewcombe7584 All six of your words are superfluous.
@@blackmore4 Hardly, since they were warranted and clear and precise.
This charming man has left us too soon.
RIP Andy Rourke. ❤🌹There is a light that never goes out. The music of Andy Rourke and The Smiths lives on.
This one hits hard. Not just that he was central part of the greatest indie band of the 80s, but that he seemed like - and everyone that knew him agrees - such a kind and gentle feller. RIP buddy.
Rip Andy i love your unforgettable bass lines
Amazing Bass player , so melodic , Stolen from us by Cancer. RIP ❤
Johnny marr is a guitar genius , but it was Andy Rourkes' bass playing that nailed it for me on many a Smiths track , he was genuinely one of the bass greats , such a great style .
Rip Andy you will be truly and sadly missed ❤
You've grown your wings, with guitar in hand, flying high, you was one of the greats your music will live on as you will rip Andy you will be missed.x
I still can’t believe this has happened..
RIP ANDY. Truly a great musician. We will always remember you.. ❤❤❤❤
Barbarism Begins At Home had to be featured in any tribute segment to Andy as it’s a great bassline. R.I.P Andy Rourke a great loss to music.
He also continued to play in Morriseys band for a bit during his solo career.
I saw him and Mike Joyce play in Sinead O'Connor's band at City Gardens in NJ.
At the time I didn't realize it was her first American show so now that makes it even more special.
he's the bass player on some of Morrissey's early singles too
The Smiths were one of the best bands of the 80's. With the passing of Andy , The Jam now become the band many hope will have a reunion. RIP Andy 🔊
Might as well get Black Lace on tour while you're at it.
@@therespectedlex9794 black lace? You're either very young or just being disrespectful. Either way this comment makes you sound really dumb
Will be massively missed, legend ❤
Really dude? The guy was a bass player....virtually nobody has heard of.....from a band that is mediocre at best.
@@rockscousteau have some respect mate.
@@rockscousteau They were a HUGE niche group at the time. The fact that this type of expose is highlighting him goes to show what a wide net of influence The Smiths had on what would become the world of alternative/modern rock.
So yea, he is known around the world; albeit not in an Adam Clayton way.
@@rockscousteau Good for you if you don't like good music.
@@rockscousteau disrespectful. Shame on you, seriously
Too young RIP 🙏
Damn right. The man was a year or so older than me.
Somehow, I expected British news services to have longer coverage of his death than any American TV network.
Thanks for the great bass playing! R.I.P Andy
This is heartbreaking to watch. Johnny must be beside himself right now, R.I.P Andy Rourke the best bassist in the world has gone now but definitely not forgotten!!!!
So sad🥹 thank you for the music' andy rouke of the smiths R.i.p❤️🇵🇭🇩🇪
Grew up jamming my drums to his bass blasting out of stereo. This is sad. RIP.
Oh no! Too young way too young!
Andy thankyou so much for all the joy you have brought me over the years!
“Heaven knows I’m miserable now!”
A fan from Downunder.
I think this should be a wake up call for Peter Hook to patch things up with his former band. Even if not to rejoin but at least let the past be the past.
A Bass Player that influenced many & was a MAJOR part of the appeal of the SMITHS…🙏🏾✊🏾 As a Bass Player, I’ve learned much & he is missed.
Andy RIP. So cool, brilliant musician. Much loved.
You read the comments on all the Smith's songs and every one has massive complements on Andy Rourke's bass playing. Truly one of the best ever.
Thank you for being the only news reporters to not mention that he had a struggle with a drug addiction in the 80's but he beat it and continued to make music and record two more Smiths albums and collaborate with many other musicians. I've watched about twenty videos and the most they say his he died from pancreatic cancer, oh and he suffered from addiction. Those memories for Andy were painful and although he's been open about it, he didn't like to relive those memories and still felt the shame from having developed an addiction even though he beat it - a very long time ago! I wonder how he'd feel knowing this is being mentioned as part of his legacy?
Im sad today. God bless Andy x.
What a shame, what a legend. Safe travels 🌼🦋🎈
Oh no…I loved his playing it improved my life, still does
RIP Andy!
RIP, Andy. Thank you for every note.
RIP Andy 🙏
RIP Andy. One of the best bass players of all time.
So sad. 💔 He was amazing! 🎶
I was a huge Smiths fan back in the day, but I burned out on them. What brought me back? The bass on Rusholme Ruffians. Got it stuck in my head and came running back. No one really talks about Andy Rourke as a bass hero, because Morrissey and Marr are such giants, but I, for one, love his bass work. Underrated, for sure. RIP.
So funny you say that. I burned off in 86. But I rediscovered RR about 9 months ago and I'm hooked.
@@rosiebottom3870 It's an overlooked gem. Perhaps not the most original Smiths song, but one of Morrissey's best lyrics. And, of course, the groove.
@@chewycenter7690 totally agree x
Music live always and forever 🎵
Rip Andrew Michael Rourke, you will be missed
It is up to those of our generation, who grew up with his music, to introduce him to future generations
‘First of the gang to die.’ 😢
Oh my
OMG how have I only just heard about this 😢 so sad his basslines were such a big part of musical upbringing. Sigh this is awful, RIP Mr Rourke, you were a hero to so many 😭xx
heartbreaking. i cant say i was around when the smiths were, my mum wasn't even born yet, but ive fallen in love with their sound. the best band in history, the best bassist in history
Too soon, such a great bassist and human being. Miss you already Andy! Never will we forget...
R.I.P. Andy Smith

RIP Andy, gone much too soon. 😢Thanks for playing bass on the songs that saved my life. ❤❤❤
Wonderful tribute to an incredible musician. The bedrock of The Smiths. And yet just a footnote on Channel 4 News yesterday. So disappointingly. RIP Andy
Channel 4 can suck my dick. If they don't know this is a moment, there's no hope for them.
Thank you Andy. Go easy.
Oh no. RIP Andy. He was a huge part of The Smiths’ sound.
God bless Andy Rourke.
Just the best, most creative bass player. For these 5 to have come together, is divine intervention, at its most divine.
Amazing band , rip
Very well made and respectful tribute video. Superb bass player on so many classic Smiths tracks.
A significant part of our adolescence departed. RIP Andy and thanks for the basslines.
This is too sad for words. The Smiths will be forever legends. RIP Andy 😢💔🌷

Very saddened to hear that Andy Rourke has left us.
He was way too young, 3 years younger than me.
Though whilst he was here, he contributed to the world in many ways.
Well played Andy.
An admirable accolade.
Andy was a jazz funk bass 🎸 player.
Who gave that unique sound to the fab Smiths music.
RIP mate.

Andy...what a musician!
Im so saddened by this ...i cant believe this... This is criminal... R.i.p. the original indie bass player
I'd pay a lot of money to watch more of Andy's unedited and early bass playing.
Rock steady Andy. You were an amazing bass player and will be missed. All 'eads raise a bowl to the man
His bass playing on The Tube back in the 80s ,especially the song barbarism begins at home is totally on point.
A god of bass!!! RIP
