Apparently Andy played a Yamaha BB2000 in studio and played his Fenders on the road. I'm not saying this contradict at all, just for your information in case you didn't know. Its great that Andy gets some of the recognition he deserves.
yes I had read that as well! Makes me want one. I thought about mentioning, but that bass still has the precision pickup in it so I figured it was close enough 🤷♂
@@classicbasslines I really appreciated the piece about the plectrums. The thickness is definitely something I overlooked. I was using Dunlops .80 plectrum - it gives nowhere near the attack.
Your 100% correct on the BB2000 in the studio. There's a poster with Andy the the Smiths, he is hold his BB. I was lucky enough to find one in good shape and with a few minor adjustments the tone is there. I only use chorus and a little compression, but use ernie ball rounds. Through garage band it sounds pretty darn close! RIP Andy.
Mr Andy Rourke, you absolute legend, the best quote I heard about Andy Rourke was when someone said that even Andy Rourke didn't know how good Andy Rourke was.though I play lead guitar I've always liked bass guitar. My parents lived just across from Saint John Plessington high school, that's the school Andy Rourke and Johnny Marr attended. Tragic loss R.I.P. Mr Andy Rourke.
Brother, that was awesome; as soon as i tuned in; you were playing the bass from ‘barbarism begins at home’; right away, I began to sing😅. Thank you for representing Andy Rourke so well❤️
Love that Tokai , those basses were awesome. I recently picked up a flying V Tokai , and am restoring it right now. Great video Dave , and thank you for paying tribute to a bass machine .Rest in Peace Andy.
I met that guy once in Honolulu I did the waynes world bowing and he looked at me like I was insane witch is witchy untrue and dismissive. He looked more British than Britain very musk ox pipe reflected against purple lapels. ❤
i quit playing with a pick when I was 15, once I learned how to play "properly" with my fingers. But I've been spending a lot more time with it lately - very fun but definitely takes some getting used to
If your neck is a good one, meaning it can handle LaBella 760M '54 flats or Rotosound 77 Jazz monel flats then it should be fine with 45-105 Rotosound 66 Swing rounds tuned up a step to F# standard.
@@classicbasslines I've had good neck karma. 😬 The technically trickiest thing about playing Barbarism with a pick, being mainly a fingers player with not-so-large hands, is muting the low side F# with the left thumb rather than with the right/plucking hand thumb.
I think some songs/basses were in concert pitch. But check out this clip, you get a nice shot of his fingerboard and he is definitely tuned to F#: ruclips.net/video/yq3Hi6htzk4/видео.htmlsi=fShi-uoeXJuLg3Gb&t=388
@@BeesWaxMinder capo is a great solution, quickly lets you get into “F#” without changing strings or risking putting too much tension on your neck. It’s what I would do if I was just jamming at home or had 1 Smiths song in a set. But there is a tonal magic to the uptuned strings. They bite/cut in a way that the capo’d bass won’t. If I was in a smiths tribute band I’d do it, or if I had too many basses I might leave one like that.
Attention seeking hair do
I mean it's entirely possible that's why he does it but why assume 😂
Really? That's all you get out of this ?
What are you going on about?
STEVEN! WHYYY, STEVEN!?
Maybe he just don’t like cutting his hair
RIP Andy. Thank you ❤️

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, almost everything up to Meat as Murder would have likely been a P-Bass, I think.
R. I. P. Andy 🙏🏼
The best bassist the world!!

He will be missed
What a bass player
Literally the only band i can think of that played tuned UP a whole step lol!
You’re a legend for this 🙏🏽
thank you
Great viddy! Andy Rourke was one the greatest bass players ever!
RIP Andy 🤍

Super informative and well done! Thank you for creating this video! I always loved Andy Rourke’s sound and tasty melodic lines!
RIP ANDY!
Great analysis on a great (if underappreciated) bassist's tone and style!
thanks!

Excellent

Great Info!
“That damn F# tuning” rip Andy
Great info. Perfect.
I suck at using a pick and don’t like it, but love his style and sound.

@@classicbasslines You can get a great clean tone with fingers, and some effect pedals enhance it as well.
I think thats the benifit of playin guitar before playin bass. You are more used to playin with a plec 👍

yeah. man if you are getting necks that can handle the 760M's you're luckier than me!

I saw a recent interview with Marr and he said Rourke played in concert pitch. Only Marr's guitar was tuned up.

you're the coolest man.. has anyone ever told you you look like spike from cowboy bebop?
I think I’ve gotten that once or twice lol
or John Heder
You have my old hair from the 1990s!
STRAIGHT up 60s look there. He's Woodstock to the core.
What are the pros&cons of putting a capo on the 2nd fret of a regularly tuned bass, compared to this?

What's the name of the Plugin again?
How bout a mustang? Same sound?
I would imagine you can get close. Mustang is similar-ish to a P but a little more midrange focused
What's the name of this song?
Barbarism Begins at Home
@@classicbasslines just found out. Thanks a lot!!
