I had a *MANUAL* 2.5L Honda Ascot, it was Wonderful. It sounded wonderful and ran beautifully the 5 years I had it. It had 18K km on the clock when I got it and was as Mint as you'd expect. Sold it in the same condition just with 50K more KMs on it. Kinda regret selling it.
Here in the USA, we had the Acura Vigor. Same engine just a different front end. My older brother had 2 of them with over 250,000 miles on the clock, they were absolutely bulletproof. I had one with 50k miles since it sat for almost 10 years, started right up the first try and was an amazing daily driver with a crazy amount of low end torque.
Golly thought those old 90's five cyl Honda's were long gone, drove a few back in the day............. lethargic, thirsty, boring and overweight follies, just like the Mazda 2.0L V6 Luces (929), all flash and no dash. Another cracking vid, keep em coming.
Yeah I thought they were gone too! Hence why I snapped this one up. Too bad it's a hunk of junk. Mind you, from your comments it sounds like they weren't much better in good working order either HAHA
followed a mate from raumati South to levin in his ledgend fully mint service wise. he had full exhaust extractors and a stainless exhuast and inless intake cold/hot air 5 speed auto. them ledgends move mate. he was in his fzr900 on the straights. I was hit n 240 kmh piece of piss him, and his bike was not pulling away to say the least ae, those legends, hence the name. mate. lol. I hope you kept it. they go hard with next no tickles at all silly fast na application and the compression os solid for a plus t ❤
There is no such bike as an FZR900. There was an FZR1000 and there's a FZ900 (a FZ-09 here is NZ) and a XSR900. And no Honda Legend on Earth could keep up with either three. It was likely a FZ400, and even if they had a similar top speed, a bike would have been gone miles away from a Honda Legend, so it would be sitting at that speed, and the car had gotten up to that speed, much more slowly. From stand still, any three of those bikes would disappear, and if the car had a few more kms top speed (eventually), it would have slowly gotten up to that speed, but it would take road tens of miles long to do it. Comparing the top speed of an un-faired naked bike (if you mean an FZ-09 or Xsr900 (a FZR1000 would destroy it, top speed including), with the eventual top speed of a car, does not make a car fast. Fast for a Honda Legend, sure. From 0-250kms, all three of these bikes would make a Honda Legend look like an ant in the rear view. You clearly don't ride, or at least not properly. Silly AllDayBlazer. Don't you know smoking weed all day is dumb and teenager like? You smoke at the end of the day, when you have all your shit done (i'd have thought you would've worked that out, if you were born in 1989). Or the stuff you do manage to get done, just comes out pear-shaped. A bit like your comment.
Can you make a video on buying and selling cars for a living, with a focus on buying from turners lol. i have been watching and learning the auctions and it seems there are alot of opportunity's to make money. LMVD stuff would be cool to. Cheers
Awesome video, love the car so cool to see a honda 5 cylinder. i got so excited when you opened the hood then you said it was fwd :(((( almost a perfect platform ahahaha but sick as man surely put new rings in it, some light engine mods and just gut the interior. such a unique car, id feel bad if you ripped off all the panels 😂😂 but your car mate you do what you like with it, keen to see whatever the next vid is on it :))) hello from nz aswell !!!! ahahaha
I would consider fixing it, but it's an enormous job for a car that's absolutely worthless... So I think I'll just have some fun with it and put it out to pasture. It's the most financially sensible option
Seems like a pretty standard car from Turner's. Those guys are experts at hiding faults due to camera angles and simply lying about the running condition of a vehicle. Would be cool to buy a car with this type of issue and actually build it on your channel. A decent car, something worth the money haha.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that man. Hopefully you can find another job soon. Sounds like it could have been a cool car! Better than the Inspire I bought anyway hah
I wanna know whats the difference between accord and inspire because i have both in my country and inspires are usually cheaper, why is that? I thought it would be more expensive since its a v6
Love a 5 cylinder engine, as they have a unique sound and can be quite fast (well maybe not this Honda)... Shame about this car being a bit of a dud, but I wonder if these engines can take any boost?
I know how ya feel about dishonest sellers on trade me. A couple of months ago I brought a Honda Odyssey rb1 as a flip project. The seller said he was leaving nz and all it needed was a new power steering pump. Well yes the power steering pump was leaking but also the left front tire had a cut, the engine light was on, the engine had almost no oil when I got it and it was leaking too, and to top it all off the CVT was slipping like nothing else. Oh and the starter motor died as soon as I got home. It is now on trade me again but I am seriously considering taking it off and entering it in a demolition derby instead.
I bought an Ascot of the Ex Malaysian Embassy here in Wellington. When I say it was Immaculate ...... Understatment - the leather was like new , the engine bay was amazing. The car went really well. Reminded me of a F23 sohc Accord I owned. Similar drive/ power/ feel etc. + 10 points for driving it home and if i saw correctly , over paikok hill even ya mad bastard haha
I was gonna buy that exact car but never got to a viewing, I think it was on trade me for like 3 months before it went to turners, it looks a lot worse than the photos. RIP
Oh really? Wow it must have hung around for a while then! Maybe I should have offered lower. I thought for that price surely someone would have snapped it up.
My mate had one of these, we ragged it round a field for ages it refused to die, such a strange engine especially in a honda
HAHAH that's excellent
I had a Honda Ascot with the 5 cylinder, fantastic engine note and fairly quick to boot but so, so thirsty!
Yeah man the fuel economy is awful aye haha
Had a Honda Ascot for years which never missed a beat. You are so right about inspecting cars on Trade me .From one who has been burnt.Happy Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you too! And yeah can't take a risk with sight unseen cars like I have in the past

That’s excellent I’d love to drive a manual one
YESSSIRRR ANOTHER UPLOAD JUST AFTER I FINISHED WORK. LESHGO
Yesssss

Very cool! Strange though because I talked to a few mechanics, one who is from the US and he said they were horrendously unreliable...
The Fiat twenty valve coupe is a five cylinder.
Yes actually I forgot about that car!
I never seen that before, wow!
Me neither!
These cars are just too good to be left to die
@@Αναστάσιος-σ8υ yeah I guess with everything though there comes a point where it’s not worth it financially

Yes my mate had one and sold it so quickly for less than 1500 I think
The Mazda KL-ZE 2.5 V6 was a decent engine of that era
Yeah I thought they were gone too! Hence why I snapped this one up. Too bad it's a hunk of junk. Mind you, from your comments it sounds like they weren't much better in good working order either HAHA
Can you install an cold air intake filter before it goes to another person? It would sound awesome
That would be cool! Just for you I will in the next episode haha
@@KiwiCarLife Tysm!
I have a have the manual usdm model that makes 348 wheel with a turbo. Sounds amazing and super nice to daily still
Goodness me! That's epic!
Burnout piston rings? nar it would be blowing blue smoke for days.Could be burnt valves or valves not sealing due to carbon on the valve seats
Who knows, something anyway…

Nice man! Yeah those J35 Legends are great cars honestly, be it a little heavy and kinda ugly. But a great drive and very fast. Can get them for 4k!
Rings could just be stuck... it might come right. Enjoying the local Northern suburbs backgrounds. Keep at it 👍👍
Maybe? I've been driving it for 2000km now and they haven't got any better. Although admittedly no worse either... Still a bother
Extremely unlikely unfortunately
What if its just valve seals?
@@gabrielv.4358 it would be a miracle
Thanks for the vid .. I was always curious about that engine 🙂
No prob! It's an interesting one for sure!

Had 1 of these Honda Legends ... was a nice drive ... it was black ... chopped the springs and tinted it out was a mad G roller
Goodness me chopped springs that's a disaster waiting to happen HAHA

Yeah I’d happily rebuild a decent car, but not this haha
was a honda rafaga for sale in CHCH for like 3k and it was mint had the 5 cylinder too
would have tried buying it and bringing it to auckland but i lost me job

5:26 yeah at 3K to 5K RPM it sounds great. Any higher or lower? Not so much, though that might be because of the general poor state of the car
I reckon it sounds pretty epic, mind you putting the mic under the engine bay produces quite an "intense" sound
this engine needs some more rowdy exhaust
I know! Contemplating lobbing the muffler off haha
My mate in the Bunbury Western Australia has a 1998 Mazda Eunos 500 manual 4speed 😍
That's very cool!
I remember these floating around a few years ago here in New Zealand... Think they were badged as the Rafaga here.. 🤔..
Yeah I think Honda NZ bought a handful in. These cars had so many weird names and versions
Who would have thought someone would have lied selling an old car in 2024 i am shocked !
Well.... haha
make a video straight piping this for the lols?
I so want to aye!
A shame you couldn't restore her, but I'm looking forward to seeing the stripped down version of it.
Yeah I know, I was actually going to get it fully legal and polished, cleaned, etc. But alas, it's just not worth it. Needs a whole new engine tbh
Love a 5 cylinder engine, as they have a unique sound and can be quite fast (well maybe not this Honda)... Shame about this car being a bit of a dud, but I wonder if these engines can take any boost?
There was another guy that commented on here, apparently he's got one making 350whp with a turbo so I guess the answer is yes!
@KiwiCarLife That's cool 😎
Honda avoiding the rear wheel drive platform with all their might 😂😂
I know!!! So annoying!
Toyota also made 1PZ Diesel fitted to Land cruiser
Oh really? Wikipedia must be missing a few examples
Sorry for your loss man. Great content though. I'd sue him through Small Claims Court.
Ach... it's a $1400 car I'm not that hurt. If it was a 10k car then definitely I would!
GM also make a 5 Cyl petrol and an inline 6 petrol.
Yeah in the hummer I think
Does it have vtec is the real question !
It does not sadly
Looks prime for a demo derby 😁
Haha I guess?
Could you kindly provide power figures in old world units (hp, lb-ft) too, instead of only microwave output? 😂
Looks like a weirdly designed 5th generation Prelude when it comes to the interior.
Yeah similar!
Mate if those v6s accords came in a manual id so daily that ay
Even if this came in a manual..
Yeah me too! A facelift CM6 Mugen sedan with a 6MT I would own forever
Put a race airfilter on it
Or just crack the intake box haha

Loves a cold start redline
Lol - that was actually two videos edited together, and the coolant gauge doesn't work. It was definitely up to temp
Strip the interior and exterior, cut the springs, no exhaust and open intake and send it around a farm😂
Goodness me haha
I have a 300d with a 5 cylinder
Oh? Mercedes made one too?
Let's make this top comment 😄
I'm lowkey tempted to pin this
How ironic your boy buys a rare five cylinder Honda to find it onlyruns on four cylinders😂😢
AHHAHAH
Wow that acceleration at 3:27 was so underwhelming lol
AHHAHAHA it's not fast with only 4 healthy cylinders that's for sure.
