happy Monday 💗⛅️ it’s going to beautiful day and I’m very excited for you to see today’s video- I really open up about my career in a new way! What is one thing YOU WISH you knew before starting your career/occupation?
How to handle people when the situation is extremely awkward or you are unprepared; like race, sexuality, religion and etc.? I get into a few conversations, I don’t know how to respond. Getting theory for your mental health? Knowing it’s not a problem when wanting it. Keeping your personal life away from work!
i loved this and YES that ana luisa sponsorship 😍i wish i knew that i didn't have to know what i was doing right away and that sometimes, downtime is out of my control. when i first started working in corporate i felt like i wasn't smart enough because i didn't know anything in the beginning, but who does?! and if i had downtime that was out of my control, i would get in my head about it. i wish i just took a chill pill when i started my job and eased into it with more grace to myself. loved this vlog selena as always❣

I don’t have regrets or wishes, but I do have advice for younger people starting out: there’s always another job, you are talented, worthy of respect and understanding, no one gets to tell you who you are, and speak up.

Career: I went to school for hospitality management with a focus in meetings and events. Worked in hotels in various positions front desk, sales, management, catering. Now I work in tech for a company that creates software utilized for hotels :D
Prior to starting my hotel career, I wish I had a better grip on my mental health. It’s really a 24/7 business, so work life balance and healthy mental health is essential.

I work as a business analyst in the utility/energy industry ! what I wish I knew was that there will be periods of downtime when you have no work to do and you need to find something to fill that time like a training course or something!

I work as a vocational rehab counselor for a hospital. I wish I knew more in detail of all of the laws and regulations that go into persons with disabilities or people who have had a felony or have been incarcerated. The world does not cater to this population and people of color at all. They judge very quickly but I am an advocate for my clients. I'm not going to go on a rant but I do love my 9-5 to be honest. I'm working towards being at the VA IN DC though lol! Love your as always boo ❣️
Wow that is amazing, bre!! We need people to do the work of rehabilitation and advocacy just as much, if not more, than the criminal justice system! We definitely need to completely change the “justice system” before it can ever be “just”. Like you said it definitely only caters to certain people and thats why advocacy is so vital. Thank you for everything that you do ❤️

I love how passionately you were explaining the cookie taste hahaha so cute 💕💕💕 btw we were always told as children to let the cookies cool down because if you ate it hot, it would upset your tummy hahaha so we never really eat these kinds of sweets hot. I need to try to have them warm sometime 💕💕 but it is so deep in my mind not to eat them like that I think my tummy would hurt just because 😇😅 mind is powerful like that

Love this video and your lunch time talk! One thing I wish I knew about the career path I chose that it would be difficult to move up the career ladder and finding work near home to be closer to family. I’m an analytical chemist and I grew up on the Navajo Reservation so the demand for a chemist on the reservation is non existent. But like everything else you find the silver lining in things. The company I work for now is flexible so i have been able to dip outside the chemistry realm to move up the career ladder but my fellow colleagues haven’t been as fortunate moving up the ladder. I enjoyed this and love that you respond to comments! 😃 can’t wait for the next lunch talk vlog!

Btw I am an accountant and I wish I realized sooner that there is no such thing as taking vacation at the end/beginning of the new month because there is always so much work and my current position does not allow me to take vacation during these days which is basically a week every month. It can be quite restricting when planning holidays
Ahh no way?! So cool! About the accountant hahaha do you enjoy it? Also yeah that sucks :/ my job also has a very busy few weeks every quarter (right now) where we have to work over time to meet deadlines and we can’t take time off too, so I agree! I wish I knew that as well
I'm going to check out that nail brand! I love having my nails done, but I don't have the time nor the money to be going to the salon often. Do you find that they last long? I also loved the little talk about race and equity in economics. That is something I am also passionate about in my field of teaching and STEM. And something that I wish I knew before going into teaching is that achieving a balanced work lifestyle is difficult to achieve. And I know that's difficult to achieve in any career, but teaching is such a passionate and heartfelt field that it is very easy to be sucked into putting an unhealthy amount of hours in and subsequently burning out quickly. But luckily I'm finding that the balance comes easier with time, experience, and confidence :)

You can always leave the federal government just like people that hate this country can venture to see life in other countries… I never understood why people stay in places where they’re oppressed
It depends… someone has to really be in a privileged place to simply uproot their lives and follow their dreams or quit their job or move to another country away from their entire lives, belongings, culture, family, livelihood. To an extent I see where you’re coming from, but I have to simply agree to disagree. I don’t think it’s that easy or that black and white for many people!
Additionally, if everyone simply moved elsewhere to “avoid feeling oppressed” wouldn’t they need to have to have the privilege and means to do so? Opressed ppl tend to be in very disadvantaged positions due to the lack of authority and power, so likely it isn’t an option for people who are opressed.
