Jimmy, the owner of a failed music shop, goes to work with his uncle, the owner of a food factory. Before he gets there, he befriends an Irish family who happens to be his uncle's worst enemy because of their love for music and in-house band who constantly practices. Soon, Jimmy finds himself trying to help the band by getting them gigs and trying to reconcile the family with his uncle, an avid music-hater, all while winning the heart of the beautiful Molly!
Wow. Real musicians. Real talent. What a concept. LOL!!!!!
Are you really laughing out loud?
People ask me why I know so many songs and I tell them, "I grew up in a musical." This was a great gift to the public. Thank you!
I loved this movie! So fun and uplifting. And the music was so excellent! Happy, happy, happy! The dining table scene was one of my favorites!
Hi my name is Carol I really enjoy the movies black-and-white oh since this virus broke out it’s nice to go to RUclips and pickAnd pick a black and white an old movie and sit back and enjoy it and be grateful that it’s there that someone submitted it and that RUclips is putting it out I think all of you for your work and your effort in all of this I think it’s wonderful for us older people to sit back and look at these movies it’s just a God bless you all blessed people that send in the movies and bless you too for providing them I thank you from the bottom of my heart Carol
This is a great little feel good movie. Jimmy Stewart was a talented musician!
Yes - and who knew! I've seen many Jimmy Stewart movies and never seen him play or sing in any of them!
Feeling down, stressed and depressed? Turn on an old musical and refresh yourself.
A fun musical comedy with lots of adorable Jimmy Stewart screen time.
Thanks for sharing some great movies. Love old movies, that are family friendly.
Yes, this movie is delightful, and those who contributed to it so beautifully and did not make it to to the end of WWII are long since with the good Lord.
Happiest.movie.ever! Wow, I'm stunned, what a treasure! Very different low-key sort of musical and the music was excellent, especially the incarcerated number ;-) Thanks so much, first time viewing but I'm sure not the last!
If you enjoyed this you should watch " Still Kicking" a British classic with talented actors, great musical scenes, and will tickle your funny bone
Thank you PizzaFlix! I consider myself a Jimmy Stewart fan, but had never seen this movie before! There are elements of "Shop Around the Corner" and "You Can't Take It With You". Thank you do much! Great music, great story!
IHAVE seen these 8 times all was a treat lovingI i give it 10 starshave a beautful day thank you🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Absolutely loved the scene in the jail cell! "You gotta get up..."
"A Knife, a Fork and a Spoon" was also quite clever ;)
Casanova was a good dance number.
Thank you for posting these movies. It actually means a lot.
This is before he went to war, rose from Private to COL, and suffered from PTSD for the rest of his life...while also becoming a BGEN and flying nearly every airplane in the USAF. Including the B-58 Hustler, and combat missions in the B-52. The great man...also sadly lost their son in The Nam.
Jimmy Stewart flew in the B-25. The B-52 was much later.
A very entertaining movie. Paulette Goodward was beautiful and graceful.
THANKS
Yes she was.I think this movie is very underrated Jimmy Stewart.
Married Charlie Chaplin & Erich Maria Lemarque, H.G. Wells fell head over heels for her, some pretty definite indications she had a very brief affair with Albert Einstein. Some gal.
Hi my name is Carol I really enjoy the movies black-and-white oh since this virus broke out it’s nice to go to RUclips and pick
I feel so happy and fun! I like you guys very much and that's a pity that our elites and governments are constantly trying to separate our countries and peoples!
Mary Gordon who played the mom stole the show. This movie is pure joy.
She's died at 1963
As A Jimmy Stewart fan I just loved this movie!! Again PizzaFix...amazing!
Thanks for watching! May the Sauce be with you.
Adore Jimmy Stewart. Cute movie. No one mentioned the stereotyping of every character & culture. How come only the AA in the jail tapped danced? Tsk, tsk. The Irish mom threw salt over her shoulder. I had an Irish Grandma that never did that! But more importantly, they were ahead of their time with music on the radio and call-in contests to increase listenership and ad revenue...BRAVO for that.
Never get tired of watching this gem.
This is such A great movie wish I had been alive back then
Thanks PizzaFlix for this wonderful old Jimmy Stewart movie! Picture quality is very good, and who doesn’t love Jimmy Stewart?
Outstanding new re descovery ever in 2021 on a new 35 millimeters print ! Merci beaucoup from Paris France in black and white ever. So fresh !
Feel good movie on a tough day. Awesome,!!
thanks for another adorable classic film. i sooooo appreciate these!!
What great talent! This is a classic gem I never heard of or ever saw? I was pleasantly surprised as I've outgrown musicals but thouroughly enjoyed this!
Thank you so much for sharing ...
You always find the best
Never outgrow musicals ✨
'This, the very year that the U.S.A stepped into the 2nd World War; a time when music was at a crackling brilliant peak of creativity. Herein this movie is levity writ large. Or maybe 'levity' proves not quite the ept word. No matter -- I say this. Those syncopated, rhythmic turns in the music and lyrics -- ay, the melody and harmonies -- well, one might agree that we just don't hear merriment like this in music today. 'Would really like to have seen more of those tap dancers there in the jail. 'And, oh!, of the two babe musicians at the start -- the young pianist and trombonist ~~ Wooo... What chops!.
I was looking for this everywhere!!!!
Just think: this movie was released during the year, 1941. Little did anyone know that on the 7th of December of that year, this country would be thrust into war, and James Stewart would become a bomber pilot. The government would institute the military draft and most of the members of the male cast would be sent overseas...some, never to return. A sad thought for such a delightful movie.
Actually B, though no one in U.S. knew it would be Dec 7, plenty of people in Washington D.C. knew it was coming soon. Why?-- because the Japanese gvt was pleading & then insisting that the US stop blockading their oil shipments coming through the Philippine trade route. Oil that they had paid for. Blockading with war ships. For a couple of years BEFORE Pearl Harbor.. What war ships you ask? The 6th fleet, the ships that were attacked in Pearl Harbor.
Yes, an accurate observation. Stewart ended up a general in the military.
@@lesizmor9079 Yeah and all the Japanese were doing was slaughtering the Chinese and part of the Axis with Germany and Italy. Such innocent chaps weren't they?
@Will Law you did a good job avoiding his point, didn’t you?
@@kieranpavlick3909 What point?
I grew up with this movie. I'm 38 this year. 😊
James Stewart 💙💙
The Uncle and Jimmy Stewart were also in "Destry Rides Again", another great movie.
And to think Jimmy Stewart hated this film! He claimed he despised making it stating it was a real stinker. True, it isn't a blockbuster like some of his other films. But I've always enjoyed watching it. Cute little musical. Paulette is adorable as the female love interest.
Yes not a brilliant movie at all. Still entertaining Jimmy Stewart and Paulette Goddard shine.
March 12, 2020 ~ This Movie was Released 3 yrs before I was born. I wish they could restore me like they did this fine, funny musical movie. If only in real life if "We The People" could resolve our problems as they did in fantasy land. The world would be a better place. I wish Hollywood would read these Comments and bring back song and dance movies again.
Some of the music arrangements are fantastic. The Voice harmonies for instance.
AWESOME. Thanks for uploading this. We loved it!
Thank you for sharing. Inspiration for The Beatles rooftop concert.
Another great picture show! The old man reminds me of the Wizard in OZ.
As a piano player, I am terrified by that little girl.
Thanks for the chuckle!!! And she is impressive. I wonder what became of her.
Forget the girl! Did you hear the boy?
Good isn't she ?
Yes, just imagine how good she'll be if she keeps practicing.
@@SleekMinister I'll say... He must've been hangin' round with the "wrong" crowd, hey? 'Talk of chops!!!
Jimmy Stewart is great
Great movie indeed!
Thanks for the upload. Good quality.
They don't make movies like this anymore. And that's the truth~ :)
What a great movie.
Great film thanks for posting
A promising first half film then everthing deteriorates into song. Paulette Goddard - what a beauty. Cinamatography makes us fall in love with visions of loveliness and then Wikipedia advises us that they have passed away. How cruel is modern technology? Good to learn what goes on in a U.S.A. jail.
Great fun. Deserves higher marks than 6.1 from IMDb.
GrEat movie... Thanks for sharing this one also, it's been a easy good day of Sabbath. watching the 3 Jimmy Stewart movies I have, along with, Houseguest
excellent restoration
The last time I watched this, it was on CD-i. Remember them? Thanks for the upload of an old favourite.
Paulette Goddard was never in a bad movie. And would have made a great Scarlett O'Hara.
Yes but Vivien was Scarlett, through and through. It was just perfect casting.
Vivien leigh was the ONLY ONE to play Scarlett Selznik knew better either you havent read the book or you dont uderstand anything at all
great -- thanks for a great time.
32:38 I love this music scene!!
This is my fix. ThanksPizza Flix! 😎
What a lovely film!
Is that Art Carney at the table singing A Knife Fork and a Spoon? On left, second from front.
Yes, it is. Art was a member of Heidt's singing group Donna and her Don Juans.
Enjoyed it 👍
James Stewart didn’t play the harmonica it was dubbed, Larry or Jerry Adler played it. Larry Adler also played the dubbed Chattanooga choo choo part on the Guadal canal story 1943 where the cast danced to it on board ship before the landing, very catchy harmonica number, one of my favourites.
Where do you get all these movies and series???? I wanna know Haha
What a romp! Thanks, PizzaFlix
The idea for this movie must have been inspired by the Federation of Galactic Being to tell humanity when making difficult decisions without hurting anybody will always receive divine guidance!
Excellent film Thank you
33:05 shows the very music with people, glasses, any other goods sounding in chorus. Wonderful! Thanks. これぞ音楽。ハーモニカが主役のシーンは音楽の原点を感じさせます。
This film was produced by James Roosevelt , FDR’s son
And it was the only feature film he ever produced.
A very beautiful movie!
Harmonica Playing starts at around 17:47
lovely Irish people!
Art Carney was part of the Heidt band at this time
a gem. tyvm
At 27:00 "A Knife Fork and a Spoon" The hidden inferance to the true nature of the boarding house is glorified by this wonderful song. At 31:30 begins the ritual song. Wow so delightful. LOL
Cute movie!!!
Totally nuts, but soooooooo much talent🇬🇧
This restored version is supposedly 3 minutes shorter in length than the unrestored version. Where are the 3 minutes? I'm sticking to the unrestored version. There was nothing wrong with it.
Look for Art Carney (a member of Heidt's orchestra at the time) at 1:12:43.
Out of all those folk's how'd U spot Art C.??? Wow
I saw Art Carney before that when the band is having dinner. Art Carney is on the other side of the table at the other end on the left.
@@badabing9143 I use to watch "The Honeymooners" starring Jackie Gleason, Carney played the dumb upstairs neighbor. He was easy to spot:)
@@mimiluvfromsf I know who he is, "hey Ralphy boy" I watched The Honeymooners every night for many years. And he bring down a bighorn some times 😂😀 But I'll have to go back to spot him ¡!!¡
IF YOU LOOK VERY CLOSELY, ON THIS FAR END OF THE TABLE, YOU WILL SPOT A VERY YOUNG ART CARNEY !!!!!! THIS WAS BEFORE JACKIE GLEASON, OR THE HONEYMOONERS !!!!!
WOW! Great catch.
This poor generation was so duped😞
Jewel McGowan ❤
As an Irish men where are my potato
I know one man that cant stand music, something is wrong in his brain. It's called amusicalic, 1/1000 has that problem. Poor world
At 58:17 the musical number goes into fantasy land. Cross-dressing and a big production that would be totally lost to the radio audience.
No wonder the Irish and the British haven't gotten along. Both are "full of it".
I wish the sound was louder. :-(
great choral music!
My first instrument was the trombone.
Hi my name is Carol I really enjoy the movies black-and-white oh since this virus broke out it’s nice to go to RUclips and pick Hey we’re through chart I start to RUclips please thank you
👏👏🏾🎹🎺💜💛💚🎹🎺👏🏾👏
Why when Paulette and Jimmy arrive at her house, after throwing the tomato, she wears one of her shoes of the hand? (in 14.55)
Water heater in the kitchen?
corn, corn, corn......
Have tomato will travel:
can somebody post the two exact times art carney appears? UPDATE: 57:20 is one-just saw it!
@lee_shafer: He also shows up at 31:49, he enters taking off his hat--he's part of the "A Knife Fork and a Spoon" singing scene
This Movie Is Nice and wonderful music !! It looks sort of strange to see all the prisoners wearing suits. Now it would be scummy looking and dressed creeps .
Mrs. Charlie Chaplin.
a very quirky movie -
too dumb to be a decent screwball comedy -
too forgettable to be a decent musical comedy.
some people love it - and some people hate it -
and that includes Jimmy Stewart.
Paulette Goddard is pretty - maybe the best thing about the movie.
first time i've watched it all the way through -
and probably the last.
but Jimmy is still Jimmy - and always wonderful to watch -
even in a movie he didn't like himself.
absolutely bizarre that this absurd give-away radio show concept
was based on an actual radio show of the time.
and how cool is it to see Art Carney -
a decade before he moved to brooklyn and became Ed Norton ? 1:12:43
Poubelle !
gostei da cena da mesa de jantar. Ótimo p/ Zeus.

I mean both are in the wrong
