IDK my grandparents were newly married, agaiñst the wishes of my great grandpa as he felt my grandpa would not amount to anything , be able to take care of my grandma, there they were, newlyweds, living in a car on his dad's land, gathering scrap wood from the local dump, parents to newborn twins ! Built a one room home out of scraps , BOTH of them hammering, sawing. Scrap tar paper roof, straw insulation, cooking outside, there were no social programs. Nor family helping as attitude was pull up your boot straps. Yet never heard grandma & grandpa complain. They spoke of hard work yet in sense of look at what we accomplished. !! The 30's YES were VERY hard for so many ! Heard MANY elders in my family speak of the hardship, yet, as if also, their take, was a " blessing" ? Of sorts in that they turned it into what they became . Grandpa got work thru the govt program came thru working to hand build roads as were no heavy equipment as today for roadwork. Grandma took in sewing, canned & ade jams for working people so she could stay home , raising 5 kids, buried one as now known within family is a genetic issue. They added on to the one room to inhouse plumbing , 2 bedrooms , a bath, kitchen living & dining areas. They got & kept a FORD model T on the road, farmed with his dad & mom until they were both called home . That house is stilstanding . Last time it sold , went for $240K with now just enough acreage . The farmette has been long gone . They were able to travel for a week to Hawaii , have a beyond small trailer at the lake, building on & on. Proud people . Nope was far from fun or glam in the 1930's for them or just about all ¡ !! I doubt my grandparents or elders ever stepped foot into a movie theater to enjoy to be honest ! They are now at rest. Left behind wisdom , advice . Tons of memories. The love & appreciation of these old school B & W movies. Worked in LTC // SNF I agree that the residents would enjoy watching, appreciate, tell some amazing stories of back in the day ! Not many left from that era now ! Soon it will be just us grandkids to pass on their stories . Movies bring out so many good memories 😊❤

Am showing the best of this cinematic period to mixed gender 26 yearolds once a fortnight. They absolutely love them.
They actually prefer them to the ones they get dished up at cinemas today.
      Which is an indictment.
Find that *very* telling about the 'pu$hy' psychology of modern cinema today.
Today's menu is not the level of entertainment the studios think it is.
It's a fair degree of Xbox CGI'd Up for the big screen.

If you like Fred Macmurray you might try watching Double Indemnity, his only "bad guy" roll. Cain Mutiny is another great movie he's in.
McMurray was at the height of his fame when he made the film Double Indemnity. One of his fans stopped him, on the street I believe and was upset about the film. Said she always took her daughter to his films and was aghast that it was a murder mystery. He refused to take anymore villain roles after that encounter.
