I first heard this MASTERPIECE last October, when I was deathly sick with COVID-19 (to the point of liver failure). I was in so much pain & depression that I damn near prayed for death. This song was my anthem to not only to beat COVID-19, but to give me the fight to live life with the "aftereffects " of what COVID-19 left behind. Truly, "Kings", (or in my case "Queens") "Never Die."

One thing I think Knox missed here is how Em is actually molding his flow to the marching snare drum in the background, he just gradually picks up the pace from quarter notes to eight notes to sixteenths when he's rapid-firing. The entire flow follows that 6/8 snare march rhythm. Fucking. Insane. One of my favorite Em flows of all time.

I always wondered why he didn’t do the movie until I just pieced that together what he meant when he said that. That’s the piece he was working on, and the headspace he was in. Love it

Eminem came up on the multiple syllable compound sound... that's how he linked up with Proof( referencing the song yellow brick road.) Eminem is a master at his craft. To me this is the most all out writing showcase by Eminem. People say his verse on "Best Friend" his best and shows most of Eminem´s toolbox. This is the one for me, it contains all the techniques in the book, it has attitude, melody, feel, motivation, savagery, beat, energy... This is more like his "Book of Rhymes". All that´s really missing is a speed-verse, but if there was anything to leave out writing it it´s a speed verse. The song doesn´t need it at all, the words a ment to be heard even by more casual ears. "Believe" is a good example too but not quite up to this level. There are more I can´t name at the top of my head right now. But to me this is as allround as it gets.
The “no matter how loud I bark” bar could also be: no matter, how-L (howl) oud (out): howl out. If that’s intentional then it’s even more insane than it already was

Knox I don't get into new music easily, but I am willing to give your new album a listen. The song in the intro sounded really good! This is for sure one of the more overlooked Em tracks. Because it was on a movie sound track. But really great track. This along with Phenomenal are awesome. And Kings may be legitimately one of his best tracks periods. Originally Em was probed to have Jake Gyllenhaal's part in Southpaw. But he declined as he had a lot going on but he did say he'd help the soundtrack, and help with some of the script. You can tell Em would be good in the film though.

To me this is the most all out writing showcase by Eminem. People say his verse on "Best Friend" his best and shows most of Eminem´s toolbox. This is the one for me, it contains all the techniques in the book, it has attitude, melody, feel, motivation, savagery, beat, energy... This is more like his "Book of Rhymes". All that´s really missing is a speed-verse, but if there was anything to leave out writing it it´s a speed verse. The song doesn´t need it at all, the words a ment to be heard even by more casual ears. "Believe" is a good example too but not quite up to this level. There are more I can´t name at the top of my head right now. But to me this is as allround as it gets.

This is for sure one of the more overlooked Em tracks. Because it was on a movie sound track. But really great track. This along with Phenomenal are awesome. And Kings may be legitimately one of his best tracks periods.
Originally Em was probed to have Jake Gyllenhaal's part in Southpaw. But he declined as he had a lot going on but he did say he'd help the soundtrack, and help with some of the script. You can tell Em would be good in the film though.
