@@Quinn1998 yeah I disagree with that. Relapse is starting to be recognized as a classic if I'm not mistaken or at least remembered more fondly then it was when it was released. But like I was saying to another commenter, like what you like haha.
@@suppression2142 To each their own. Recovery was better and MMLP2 is one of my favorite. I listened to relapse a lot, but in retrospect I don't think it's one of his best.
The whole Revival album is a masterpiece. It's not the Eminem people were used to and some of the production was sub par in my opinion. But this is probably one of the more bar heavy albums he has and a lot of passion and meaning inside those bars.
Ayo I agree with everything you said except for the first statement. You said yourself, it has some flaws in the production, and I can add the "too many" pop features, and maybe not having a connecting theme through the whole album, and that's why you can't say a masterpiece. It was a good album, a solid one.

It's his worst album IMO. Below Encore and on par with Revival, which is also one of his worst albums.
I enjoyed his revival album he didn't lose his ability as a rapper he was just showing us a different side of his abilities then what we come to expect from him.

Let's be honest most people who says that revival was not that bad usually pick the best songs off the album ( Like Believe Castle. Arose or even untouchable who is a masterpiece for me) however they usually don't mention Heat. Remind me and those weeker tracks with pretty bad production and cringy lyrics. Tragic endings sounds pretty bad too
Unpopular opinion: Revival is easily one of the or the best album Eminem has ever put out. Just because y’all hated on it and never lend an ear to it, doesn’t mean the album flopped or failed to live up to the standards. This album is not by Eminem nor slim, it’s just Marshall pouring out his heart. And I can say you one thing for sure, this album will top the charts once when the God goes to rest.
yeah I love this album. After Curtain Call I lost interest in his music and didn't really listen to a lot of songs until Music to be murdered by. Then I went back to the middle ones and I started to appreciate those albums. Now Relapse, Recovery and Revival are some of my favourite albums by Em. I love MMLP2 too, but I left it out because the others fit so well together :D For me The Slim Shady LP, Encore and Kamikaze overall are worse then Revival. At least I would listen to Revival over those.

Lyrically, one of the best oat and message wise, it just suffers from some poor production and singing so people ignore the crazy writing and hate on the sound of the album

He almost sounds like he's gonna cry as he spitting that, that line gets me pumped up every time I hear it, you can practically see and feel what he's experiencing as he wrote that, just thinking about all he went through to get where he is, and all the odds he overcame to get where he is. He spent his whole life in fight or flight but used that fight to take flight Instead, now hes so high up that when he looks around there's no one left to fight but himself, so he's like a boxer about to go in the ring with no one to fight or a sniper ready to take his shot only to realize there's no one left to snipe. So now he's left with this realization that the game might be over, but he's not ready to be done. When you put your all into something and make it to the end there's that bittersweet feeling of winning followed by an existential crisis and realization that the chase was more fun than the actual capture
Love his voice in BELIVE.. it's so raw, can hear a lot of emotions in his voice.. love it.

I’m traumatized because of the amount of hate this album got especially that I liked it so much and because in this exact same album Eminem talked about his fear of not meeting fans expectations and how they all want him to be the old him so bad. I believe it was in *Walk On Water*
If revival was released ten years ago, It would be considered one of his best work.

Walk on Water deserves a LOT more praise than it gets. I don't even know why it's not held higher. There's admittedly some mediocre songs on the album, but WoW is definitely no one of them! I really don't get it. Is it because of Beyonce? I thought everyone loved her? (I don't particularly, but I don't hate her or anything) Because it doesn't have percussion or a strong beat? Because it can't be for what he's saying on that - EVERY performer must know exactly what he's talking about, so how can anyone hate on the content of that song?

100% agree, only speaking for myself here but Revival was an album I was waiting a long time for. I was always interested in hearing him mature and voice his regrets during his MMLP/TES days. Love this album

It's strange because I wasn't a diehard fan. I heard his songs but I never became a fan until this album came out. I listened at night when I couldn't sleep and damn he had me balling my eyes out. I never felt any artist do this to me. He may have had his original fans(some) hating but he introduced new fans that appreciated his emotions and who decided to stick around, like me. This man is legendary. I knew as soon as I heard this album.
I love this album for the passion, heart and soul in he put into it. Now Rick Rubin production wasnt terrible but Dre could’ve added some spice to it or Dre and Rubin could’ve worked together. That’s really my only critic. Everything else was beautiful as a story I think ever song had a purpose.

This album introduced me to a whole other world. This was the album i became a fan. I discovered so much through his music about him and he helped me through a tough time with this album. Other's might consider it a failure but this was a treasure that introduced me to everything that Eminem was. His life, his work and through that I ended up here in Knox, Stevie and No life shaq's channels.
I loved this album when it came out, I heard it early via internet leaks (I felt guilty :( ) but still preordered that shit on iTunes, then bought the physical copy on disc, and I still bump it ! I think the album aged very well, especially the song untouchable….it came out in 2017 and that song is still stupidly relevant to this day and unfortunately probably years to come!

One of his best. Whoever says it’s bad didn’t listen to it cause it’s pure fire, every track, just like every other Em album. He never not gotten better with the next release.
I love the chorus on this so much especially after all the hate he received for this album. He basically said if you don't believe in me anymore I won't ever let you forget that you turned your back on me. And he stayed true to his word and absolutely fired back on everyone on kamikaze and into MTBMB. Imagine putting that much work into something and opening up and being vulnerable and then having everyone just shit all over you when half the people didn't even listen to it and went off dumbasses opinions. He had songs addressing police brutality, the apology to Kim, the in depth look when he overdosed, going at trump, etc. Lot of fake fans out there too, everyone who shit on him on revival started doing reactions and praising and riding his dick. FOH. That's why I only watch a few reaction channels now.

In this song Eminem is riding a 4/4 beat in halftime (snare on 3) and the interesting thing is that Em's cadences are like a drummer's dominant hand riding the hi-hat or the ride cymbal. Even though a drummer may ride with eighth notes, or 16th notes or 32nd notes on the hi-hat, just because he's playing it "faster" it doesn't mean he's off beat. And the same goes with Eminem's cadences.
That said, man, it's just weird how so many people talk trash about this album when it has tracks of this level. I didn't know the song and man, it's great. Like you said, Knox, it's the hole package.
You DEFINITELY need to react to "in your head" man , you seem to enjoy emotional Em , and revival is PACKED with emotional Em

The thing with Em is, he really is someone to look up to. He is doing something he really is in love with. Doesn't matter if people don't understand of these complex word choises or the on beat uniqe flow which confuses alot of people. He simply does it because of love of the craft. Do be honest, I'm not a native english speaker and have not studied english in the extent Em has. A lot of double meanings of word play go past me and you know... I really appreciate the fact that someone takes the time to decipher it all for it helps me appreciate even more the work both of theese artists put out. Em and Knox Hill, thanks for all the time you've gave us!

Revival was an incredible album. The lyricism, storytelling ability, cadence, and techniques on it is second to none. You could say the beats weren't the best, but I think this album was more about Em showing his vulnerable side while showing off his skill rather than head-nodding beats.
Believe is only good Em song on Revival. Name 4 good songs on that “incredible” album that was so bad it re-lit the fire in Em......

I hate how people called Revival a flop so quick (even before it came out) while I was still appreciating more and more things I didnt get on my first listen and trying to comprehend how much genius it takes to put together. Never doubted Em or was disappointed in Revival. 🔥
Revival is fire, just isn't for people that don't understand the art behind his music. Believe is in my top 20 Em songs.
Yup. Walk On Water, Believe, Castle and Arose are all some of my favorite songs of his. The album got a bad rep because of the production style (which admittedly could have been better at times), but the thing that really stands out on this album is the lyricism; the production hardly detracts from it, if at all. Marshall tapped into such a vulnerable and real part of himself with this album, and it’s really quite a shame that it was received the way that it was. I love hearing that side of him, and unfortunately I think that the hate has deterred him from venturing into that area in his albums since. He’s been going absolutely crazy lyrically lately, but I miss that introspective side of him. Hopefully he goes back to that soon. It makes me sad that so many people shat on and overlooked Revival because they’re only looking for a “vibe”.
About the fire cracker line as well... he's been called "Fire Marshall" before, so that's also a reference to that. Another tiny piece of a bar that always gets me is where he says "I'm your switch". Meaning he's there to flip us on/get us lit up... and going way back, a "switch" was another term for a little stick that would be used to keep kids in line. So he's here to get us going, but also to give us that little tough love to get us going when we need focus (or at least that's my take).

This is one of the few songs on Revival that I really played on repeat. I kind of wish he had made the whole album like this.
Really? Hmmm... no. I like this, but I am not a fan of this chopped-sounding flow. Took me a while to like this song. I'm admittedly more a fan of the rock-pop based beats, which is apparently "bad etiquette" in the hiphop world 😁 I was really happy with "In your head", which people hate. (They just never were fans of the Cranberries, so they don't have taste anyway and their opinions don't count---- to me 😉)

My genuine reaction to this album was "Okay! Em's doing something different. Not really my thing though I'm afraid" That was genuinely my reaction. That it's an okay album. The hate it got was so unjustified.
I think most fans in general like Em because most albums in the beginning were essentially him lending a voice to those who often arent heard.
I also think Revival was one of the first of his albums where he tried to have his voice heard, unload his thoughts. Em thinks like not many other people, so not a lot of people resonated with it.
The production excuse is exactly that, an excuse. Rap wasn't created to dance, it was to lend a voice to those who often weren't feeling as if their issues weren't being heard. Giving a voice to those that had none.
One common theme on Em's albums is that he is rarely often given credit for him utilizing HIS voice to speak about HIS issues.
Revival was and still is as underrated an album as I have seen, possibly some of his more emotional sets of tracks as we have or ever will see. Forget the instrumentals, feel his words. Tell me it is still trash. I dare you.
Amen! You couldn't have worded that anymore perfectly. Sad people can't or don't want to recognize his greatness as a rapper/hip-hop artist AND poet. He is the backbone of rap. And I really don't think this is an opinion anymore it's facts! Lol
Buddy, we're talking about music. If the production is bad then the album isn't going to sound good. The best Hip-Hop records of all time like Illmatic, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Madvillany and even MMLP have fantastic production as well as great writing. Revival has some of Em's worst bars, flows and beats. It's not underrated, it is a flop that pales in comparison to his earlier work.

You never dissapoint, but this "offbeat" issue is something that I can't just comprehend (that majority of people have such perception), as if "we" are on some elite level of rythm sensing. So it is always soothing for my soul, when someone points that out :D
If you would like to hear even sicker unpredictible, multisylable pattens (plus top tier punchlines) I highly recommend listening to "Ghetts - Microsoft Word", literally a masterpiece in my opinion.

Pharoahe Monch has the best "offbeat" flow. He is easily one of the most unpredictable rappers oat.
Polyrhythms and such or the beat tempo and the notes In how he raps flow and the pockets he finds in the tempo while being on tempo/ beat broken down so masterfully well quarter notes eighth notes ,sixteenth notes ,thirty second notes , doted eighth notes followed by 4 eighth notes .
All on tempo but very deep pockets.
As he Knox said before percussionist ( drummers) know and appreciate this as I do appreciate what em does as a percussionist who’s a bit Rusty

An absolute top 10 Em career track. The amazing anount of penmanship as usual, but if you aren't a rapper, it's hard to understand why his delivery and cadence are so legendary. The way he uses a microphone and uses every possible part of his voice is amazing. People dont understand Em isnt just the best lyricist, but he is also top tier in every single other important aspect of making a great song.

This is my fav em song. It has motivated me in some tough times. It beats the conventional idea that motivational songs should have simple lyrics and simple rhyme schemes. I mean I didn't even know all the analogies and doubles or triples for a good amount of time. I was just listening to it because of the simple message throughout. But after listening it on repeat and watching many reactions, it blows my mind as to how he can do this. He raises the bar and surprises his fans every album.

I loved revival. It reminded me a bit of recovery, a bit more personal side of him other than just rapping. It was a bit too much pop mixed in but I still really enjoyed the album
One thing I find funny about Revival is that it only really did "bad" (and I say that loosely, as it's a platinum album) in America.
In the UK and (from what I've heard from my continental friends) Europe, Revival was a chart topping album and songs like "River" got a lot of radio time because they were so popular...
I do think a lot of the hate it got had to do with his political messages and opinions before the album, rather than the actual song's quality.....

Revival sold something like 132,000 copies in the first week in UK, for a country with 1/6th the population of the U.S, that's a proportionally higher number than other artists. Similar numbers followed throughout Europe.

Kamikaze is an album half the length of Revival with absolutely no advertising prior, pertaining mainly to America-based criticism and content; yet it still sold almost 50% of what Revival did in it's first week in the UK, during an economically uncertain period of Brexit. That's incredibly impressive.....
This song is so, so precious from the begining to the end, the original flows and rap styles, switching them, vocals, music, message , the power of feelings aligned with lyrics...then the final ... !
Believe is one of my favourites off of Revival~ Lyrically, I think it's one of Eminem's strongest albums, and conceptually, the messages he brings are great~ I hope you continue with the reactions for Revival~

Revival was not a bad album. It wasn't for everybody just because of the subject matter. Some people didn't like the beats. It was Eminem's "statement" album where he tackled real world issues, and some people just don't know how to deal with that in their rap. They want women/money/cars, etc. Eminem grew up, but some of his audience didn't.

Because most of the songs came off as em just getting angry and pissy at everyone and spouting a *ton* of corny punch lines, I’m a big fan and I can admit revival has some of the corniest bars he’s ever said. Like the song untouchable is absolutely terrible
