Fun fact: the Japanese bowling/arcade franchise, Round 1, has its first location and HQ in Puente Hills Mall in City of Industry, CA, the same mall that was used for the Twin Pines/Lone Pine Mall in the movies.
I think either the company was making a reference or they believe that Japanese tourists/immigrants or American Japanophiles would feel right at home when two of their (likely) favorite things are in one spot.

Shout out to Hiroya Oku, creator of Gantz and Inuyashiki, saying the two VHS tapes which changed his life the most were an adult film featuring a woman with massive breasts and Back to the Future.

Marty: But Doc, All the best stuff is made in Japan
    Doc Brown: Unbelievable...
Idk maybe the Japanese went nuts with this line and started loving the Movies even more

Moral of the story, it's a good movie, and people remember it fondly.

Neato. Makes me think of how “The Only Neat Thing” (an old western sci-fi) became only really popular in Japan, and if I remember correctly became so notably popular it’s considered essential reading for sci-fi fans over there.

I wonder if it has to do with its similarity to Doraemon?
+ They're both time travel related, comical, and family-friendly.
    + There's a silly, iconic character (Doc & Doraemon).
    + There's a slightly pathetic, kind-hearted kid (Marty & Nobita).
+ There's a bully who is an antagonist (Biff & Gian)
Because of these similarities, maybe "Back to the Future" seemed familiar to the Japanese audience.
And because it is live-action and has the 'exotic' factor for being an American movie, it's accepted by all age group.
I don't know for sure, I'm just spouting possibilities.

I can see a Super Sentai season or a Tokusatsu show based on the story.

oh that would be sick. You have like the Red Rangers of a modern sentai and like a late 80s-mid 90s sentai get time swapped and have to work with the other's team in order to try and find a way back to the right time without screwing up the timeline and deleting both teams. You could even have the classic sentai footage be done with more practical effects and miniatures or be shot in 4:3 SD while the modern one is full of CG and in 16:9 4K.

Japanese just like great characters, funny bombastic acting, slapstick humor, colorful styles of clothing and hair, and good music or soundtracks. It hit 10/10 with each.

The fact that it was recently announced that an official Japanese version of Back to the Future The Musical will be coming to Tokyo in April 2025 further cements that BTTF’s staying power in Japan is still going strong!

A tale as old as time. If you wonder why some random IP is popular in another country it is probably because of TV sindication and other forms of cheap local publishing. Anedoctally that’s how. my home country of Brazil was able to foster fans of tokudatsu, anime shows like Saint Seya and even stuff like SNK/Sega games in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s

I think back to the future was popular in Japan (especially for kids) is that the sci-fi and characters entise a lot of people (especially to Japan who is dominant in the sci-fi field of entertainment) and the 90's and 80's aesthetics are what brings people to the franchise, they want to see the past and how they got to the past. as well as it being a American classic and how to flow of time travel came to be to what it is today. While "some" of the films is slightly targeted towards teens I can still see why kids love the franchise and how Japan loves the franchise. I am disappointed that they cancelled a manga based around the franchise (especially murata) ;----------; 🗿

Highly advise avoiding clips like you mentioned you did. Take this from someone that just had his toku channel copyright struck into oblivion by Toei this week.

I would recommend fighting that copyright strike if you're up to it. I had a previous video of mine hit by them and I was able to successful get rid of a strike by claiming fair use.

@@LostInTokusatsu I don't think I even can. I got one a few months back, another last week and one a few days ago on an older video so it actually removed the channel entirely. We were doing reactions to toku shows all trimmed down a bunch so probably using way too many clips anyway. Was always getting regular content id claims but the last few months they really ramped it up
