I always feel Hibiki needs more,It gave a unique feel. The costumes are beautiful and all the music themes makes you feel in the peaceful in the Japanese countryside.
Everything I felt about Kamen Rider Hibiki was perfectly described in this video. When I first watched Kamen Rider Hibiki, I always felt that the first half of the series was an absolute masterpiece because of how much focus they placed on the lives of the main characters. Personally, I found the film, Kamen Rider Hibiki and The Seven War Oni, captured the spirit of Hibiki exceedingly well. There was a ton of action, but the story took time to focus on the relationships between the characters.
Same. I also thought that the first half and film were incredible. While I liked the second half, it was EXTREMELY weak compared to the first half and film, which is sad because this show had so much great potential.
The first half is gorgeous. Once Yuuto got added, everything fell apart. Greatest tragedy in all of Kamen Rider...even worse than making Fruit Ninja into a theme.
The main thing about Hibiki to me is that the second half isn't even all bad, just the introduction of Kyosuke's really heavy handed at the start and makes it obvious there was a tonal shift and obviously the major letdown of the second to last episode into the final episode. The culmination of Kyosuke's arc and rivalry with Asumu is good when they actually start training together with Hibiki, not to mention the heart-wrenching goodbye to Zanki with Todoroki in the final stretch of the show. That's probably the stuff that came closest to emulating the feel of the first half of the series where it dealt with the master-apprentice relationships and cooperation instead of antagonism between the characters.
Speaking of early Kamen Rider production myths, I'd love to see you do a video on Ryuki and its production. The myth that it was intended to be a Metal Hero series is one of those things I always hear about, but don't know if I've ever seen a source for. I feel like I've also seen interviews floating around talking about how 9/11 influenced the show, but It could just be a false memory.
Good video. One piece of advice I would give is to turn up your volume. Speak a bit louder and clearer, cuz I had to turn up to max volume to hear you clearly.
Another great vid!!!!! You mention in your video this seeming fall of kamen rider starting with blade, I think a really cool video would be detailing the highs and lows of the Kamen rider franchise. You could maybe split up between showa, heisei and neo-heisei, just a thought.
Good video, and I appreciate you actually shared sources. Too many times people share info without the sources, so even if I trust and believe them I can't exactly pass on the info. Also, just wanted to note that Takatera did actually go on to make one other toku show after Hibiki, Daimajin Kanon. And he brought on one of the Hibiki writers, Shinji Oishi, to that project.
Thank you for that info! Definitely going to watch Daimajin Kanon now, because I'm not sure I can bear watching the rest of Hibiki. I loved the first half so much.
I liked Hibiki TBH. The villains may have never been properly fleshed out and the wrong kid became an Oni at the end but i enjoyed it a lot more than i thought i would.
I think Hibiki may have marked the point where Toei changed, maybe not for the better. I think if they had waited to make Hibiki it might have done better.
If this were to be adapted,I personally wouldn't call it Kamen Rider to respect Takatera's wishes and call it something else. The whole forest environment would make for a good Resident Evil-style show mixed with Walking Dead. Imagine it.
The irony of Takatera wanting to make a "Heisei Amazon" with that show being changed to a traditional Rider season in its second half, due to kids being scared of it and low ratings. That and well... we did get that eventually anyway
I actually loved Hibiki and it's one of my favorite Rider series. Interesting to see why all the changes happened, but can't help but wonder what we would've gotten.

Kuuga has a jewel in his belt similar to how the Grongi does. The Ryuki riders have contracts with mirror monsters. The Faiz riders are also Orphnochs. Blade riders use cards that are just sealed undeads. Kiva himself is half Fangire.
LOVE what you're doing. Please speak or record louder though. As for new ideas, I'd like to hear your ideas on how Sentai has steadily gone down the path of being more childish, if you agree or if I'm off, etc. I know all the series have been moving toyetic, and generally this stuff is skewing younger (my 2 year old loves Kamen Rider more than life) but I feel like that decent has been much more pronounced for SS, and probably even worse for Ultraman.
Great video. I just started paying a bit more attention to tokusatsu again, and I wanted to make a suggestion. Ever thought about sharing your opinions on Ex-Aid and Amazon Riders?
Kabuto kind of sucks, to be entirely honest. I don't hate it, but in hindsight it's massively overblown and all the praise seems to outright ignore the final third of the show (which reminds me of Build, which I actually do love). The cooking extravaganza episodes basically break established lore in order to work at all (the Worms were never meant to be able to understand the concept of "smell", which was actually established as soon as the first episode and reinforced with Drake's introduction and Tsurugi's entire character), the entire arc where Keyori's nature is revealed actually shows how childish Tendou is, until he actually becomes a real man in the finale.
Great video also Just a small suggestions, you should add subtitles to your videos so that we can follow it easier since you talk kinda fast and Japanese names are similar
I like all Kamen Riders. I like this video as well because I didn't know much about Hibiki. I also like how they are called Oni Riders because it's the type of Riders they are like how in Gaim, they called themselves Armored Riders.
"So it's a little difficult for me to be talking super addictive when talking about the story" Had to pause early on to say this... being "objective" when it comes to art is damn near impossible. There is not really any "objectively good art" out there, as much as others will try to say there is.
The series was unique and original, the Oni suits are beautifully designed, and it was beautifully shot and haunting. The thing that really killed the series was the primary focus of Isamu not on Hibiki. I remember the show was called KAMEN RIDER not This Boy’s Life. Also the full 15 riders was never introduced which was a bummer. However the show did gotten better later on with the Makamu invading the city .
Talk about what happened in the Ghost production? I recently finished the season and honestly it went down hill from the first arc, boost onward wasn’t very good in my opinion and I really hate that because everything before was really good. I don’t like talking about series unless I’ve seen everything and a lot of people dropped it but I just want to understand what happened and why it went from something good to something confused and not sure what itself was doing. I’ve heard funds were pushed to Amazons and Ex-Aid but low budget to me isn’t a reason for poor quality. “When life gives you lemons” as they say.
A lot of production info is actually in the Ghost novel. For one, Ghost's first two episodes were actually smashed into one (cutting much of the drama with Takeru) after filming because of the audience reaction (read: mothers, because that's the only demographic that Toei and Bandai listen to since Zyuranger) was that Ghost's Surprise Future appearance was too frightening. This is also part of the reason that he pulls his hood down in the series, despite the first quarter toy line and all the promos illustrating him with hood up.
Don't forget that the writers are pulled to do Kamen Rider Amazons, leaving the less-experienced secondary writers to pick up the slack. Also, the suit producers were told to prioritize Amazons over Ghost. In short? The S-Producer's Amazons series is responsible for why Ghost sucked hard.
@@reynaldipangestu259 Actually, Ghost's main writer flat out disappeared during the critical middle batch of episodes (critical because shows like this are actually written in halves), which was why Ghost violently swerved in its narrative because the secondary writers had to stall for time. Which became worse when they head writer actually returned and had to deal with the mess *they* made.

I really liked the first half of Hibiki and having the history of the show is pretty nice to have. Though, I do have a question you may know the answer to.
