Good to see you back! Yeah seeing Nexus canceled really did suck since it's second half really did scream "we need more time to wrap things up!" Nexus was a fun watch nonetheless. I really did wish that the darker toned ultraman project would be rebooted as a spinoff series on the side or something. Not Amazons level of mature (edgy) course.
The original plan for ultraman Nexus was to create a series or movie about a ultraman that was evil. It'd be where a terrorist gains the power of a ultra, but then 9/11 happened and plans completely changed
Haha, it was episode 15! It was a pretty cool experience, I'll see if I can talk about it one of these days. Spent pretty much the entire day watching the film shoot after my bit was over.
So glad to see you back, I kept checking back and rewatching your previous videos every once in a while had to double take when I saw this new one. If you take a break or not I’ll always keep coming back to see your quality content.
Oh man, so happy to see this channel rise up once more! The waiting sucks but your content is always worth it, so I don't mind; so long as you have the passion I'll be here to witness your labors! Also cool stuff and congrats moving to Japan, perhaps you can do a video going over your experience there and how it relates/translates/affects your love of Tokusatsu (would love to hear how your Sentai debut came about lol)
Yay for more Lost In Tokusatsu! Looking forward to more. And yeah, don't worry about trying to get an episode done weekly. Being a slave to the YT algorithm is what they want. Make good stuff as and when it is, and you are, ready and people will keep watching.
Another example of a cancelled tokusatsu was Toei's Giant Robo. Toei planned the series to run longer but after blowing all their tv drama budget on their other two 1967 shows Akakage and Captain Ultra they had to cut the series run short. This helped the series though as it helped make the finale so impactful and heartbreaking.
Hey man I am heading to Japan at the end of August through early September. I was trying to find where sentai is filmed so I can see that while I'm there. Can you shoot me a PM?
Interesting video! I would like more random info about your life experience at the end of future videos. Listening to you talk about your life is interesting and strangely soothing. Even having full videos about life in Japan could also be interesting.
Wow, this is really detailed. One show I think you may (?) have missed is Kamen Rider Amazon. Apparently, parents got it cancelled since they thought it was too dark for children.
5:06 i know I'm very late to this, but I must ask. I was under the impression that Big One was a very iconic and legendary ranger in Super Sentai's 40-something year history, and was a favourite back then, helping JAKQ instead of further drowning it. Was I just remembering it wrong? Did the west mistranslate the whole thing and is this some big misunderstanding? I wanna know!
What about Kamen Rider Decade? I haven't seen it yet, but I thought I heard that show got cancelled to make way for W since it had low ratings and toy sales, or is that wrong?
That is totally wrong haha. Decade had the highest ratings in years at that point and was also the best selling Rider toy line at the time. They decided to make it a shorter series from the get go - Masahiro Inoue (Decade's actor) revealed this in a magazine interview two or three episodes into Decade. Bandai wanted to offset Rider's premiere so it wouldn't directly compete against Sentai and they could release big toys year round. Rider now tends to premiere around the time Sentai's toy line is coming to an end.
@@LostInTokusatsu That's interesting. I was already looking forward to getting to Decade eventually, but now I'm looking even more forward to it, because I think these 47-51 episode tokus tend to run into a pacing problem, but knowing that Decade had the intention of being shorter makes me more curious to see if it managed to avoid that problem.
@@johnsidney4147 And Decade true ending is in the versus with w. But we see him in some crossover sometimes and in zi-o since it's the end of heisei rider.
@@LostInTokusatsu Do you know if Decade ran into any production issues? I mean, with the trailer for Movie War showing a bunch of scenes that weren't included in the first edition of the movie. On the subject of the movie, did anything happen with the complaints from the Broadcasting Ethics & Program Improvement Organization?
@@MrHiggs-qe3kg basically parents were complaining that decade is "just a long promo for a movie" due to having its ending in a movie, or rather going to be. They decided to change the movie drastically to make it mote standalone and have no hard connection to the series, which left decade the series having no real official ending.
You didn't mentioned Choko Senshi Changerion, an underrated Toei tokusatsu that has its toylines from Sega. It was planned to aired 52 episodes, but cut down to 39 due to have low ratings and obscure content. Changerion was aired in 1996, among the same time as Carranger and B-Fighter Kabuto (both are also from Toei). It's one of the most underrated cancelled tokusatsu show many people like me never talk about. Also, Brader, ewww!
I just started watching Metalder a couple of days ago and so far watched the first four episodes which I'm in love with. Technically I have seen Metalder once before but only the first 10-15 episodes so I never actually did see the entire season which I have plans on this time. It's been such a long time though I pretty much forgotten most of what I did see. I wanted to get back to it partially because I want to see the whole season before beginning my collection of the VR Troopers DVD sets in which Metalder was one of the Japanese source footage for the show. It's sad that Metalder did get cancelled as I'm more of a fan of darker seasons then lighthearted ones but the kids didn't like it so the show didn't survive that.

Neither show went above mediocrity in my book, especially Gransazer which started out really strong and then had no idea what to do with any of their characters outside of the Fire Tribe. I had no idea Metalder was canceled though. I mean 39 episodes is still a lot and what most Toku shows really should strive for as opposed to 50ish. I knew about Nexus, which sucked since the last arc made no sense. It definitely felt like a rush job. JAKQ was just a mess all around. It had no idea what it wanted to be. One of the worst Sentai shows out there.
I hate when shows get canceled or are effected because some kid imitates it. Like how naruto almost got canned because some kid buried his sister in sand imitating the sand coffin from garra. She died unfortunately. But It doesn't matter how childish, dumb and lame or dark, serious and cool any show may be it will always be some child in the world imitating it. That's just what kids do. You can't safe blanket the world no matter how much you want to. I personally think a child needs to understand these programs at a young age to be better equipped with handling certain things. As a kid I watched powerrangers, Beetle Borgs, VR Troopers and Dragonball Z but also Goosebumps, are you afraid of the dark etc. As parents we need to be able to let kids watch that stuff but also be able to sit down with them, then explain how mimicking these shows may be dangerous. But instead we got very anal parents who ruin these shows for everyone because they don't think it's safe for THEIR child...ya know you can block channels on your TV right?
Wish they directed giant tokusatsu like that nowadays. Even tsuburaya directing for new generation has not been the best consistently in terms of action and camerawork
Idk what you're saying but Taiga is really doing good with the action and camerawork.Mixing both CGI and special effect in the fight scene really make it spicier.Kinda like Nexus.
