@@gutsmcgordan4184 And that makes sense due to Tsuburaya’s pension for Models and detail. He literally crafted Godzilla and it’s sense of Scale for longer than most people have!
This is what I really like about kaiju films, Ultraman and to a lesser extend Sentai. The real sense of scale, weight and creative shots are what keep me interested ever since childhood.
I have been loving Ultraman Taiga's fight scenes. All the shots from inside houses/businesses and such have always been so cool. Getting into Ultraman has been one of the best things to happen to me recently toku-wise. Such a great franchise.
I feel like with Super Sentai they're scared of damaging those miniature sets. like they get them built and then do the minimal movements so they can shoot a bunch of different fights in a day without needing to keep resetting the set itself. It leads to lots of face off shots and torso wiggling while CGI effects do all the impacts. That Ryuusoulger fight from episode 1 though? That was rad as heck. Was nice seeing all that movement going on without it switching to a ropey CGI model of the mecha.
Yo, what happened to this channel? I used to watch a lot a year ago. I only just remembered it now, and it’s sad to see that they haven’t uploaded anything yet. I hope he returns
I really liked the giant fights from LuPat, mostly because I feel it's the first Sentai in years to really use CG to push the giant fights over the top and the finishers always felt so satisfying to watch. I would be interested to hear what you thought about the weird quasi-giant fights from the mid-heisei era Kamen Rider's like in Den-O or Gaim.
I always love the fights in Ultraman for the reasons you said, plus, they are more imaginative in the fights, it's not just punches or kicks being throw. Sometimes it's acrobatics, sometimes it is in the sky, sometimes it's humorous (like the beginning of R/B movie, where Ultraman Rosso is upside down with the head in a building.) Super Sentai is not that imaginative anymore.
I mean, the car alarm noises also add to the fight scenes themselves. Whenever someone takes a step in one of those city models, and you hear that car alarm, it gets interesting.
Really love they started out with the tangible method and kept using it all the way. Especially ultraman taiga, really alot of great shots and angles achieved..
I really really need to watch more Ultraman stuff. I recently finished Ultraman Geed, and I just found myself impressed on, like what you said, the use of minitures to make the cities they're fighting in feel really alive.
Man, I miss this channel :/ The content was so high quality and the way you presented it was so unique and well done. Hope you are doing well in life, happy and also can someday make a comeback on RUclips
I forget which episode, I’d say it was around 12 of Ultraman Geed, in which they had Geed or Zero fighting in the background, and Laiha fighting on a roof in the foreground. That was probably the most impressive thing I’ve seen in tokusatsu so far.
Some of my favorite fight scenes are gamera vs legion in gamera 2, Godzilla vs mechagodzilla in Godzilla against mechagodzilla. I haven't watch much sentai but I remember liking gomora vs redking.
I"m a big fight choreography fan and I have to say....I miss Koichi Sakamoto. The only thing I notice with Ultraman fights are that they very very reliant on Judo and wrestling, which is pretty cool.
Great video! when I first got into Ultraman it was crazy to see the difference in approach for the giant fight scenes in comparison to Sentai. Ultraman just absolutely does an amazing job in showing scale and impact. The first fight in Geed really stood out to me due to the camera work. There also a ton in R/B that did the same. It make me wish Sentai would finally step it up already. Kamihoriuchi's work in the four episodes he's done of Ryusoulger have been great but the other directors for the show haven't tried to adapt in order to match his approach.
Can you do a follow-up video about really bad giant fights where they use CGI to replace everything? Like when Sentai decides to replace the the physical mecha with a CGI version in order to have it do crazy flips and movements that have no weight behind them. Sentai is incredibly guilty of this.
I can't believe it's been a year since your last upload. I swear I blinked and a year passed. Hope your doing well in Japan. I'm only casually into Toku but your voice and delivery are so captivating!
Loved this video. Where can I watch Ultraman Taiga? I don't see it on Crunchyroll. (Shout out to GoBusters, which had the best miniatures and city model Sentai has ever used! ... In it's first half, anyway.)
want to watch a fight scene of giants better than the modern ultraman shows,go watch the showa godzilla movies, they are absolutely absurd humor and i love it
I really wish Sentai took ques from Ultraman when it comes to giant fight scenes. They just always come off lifeless and not as big and grandiose as giant fights should be. Not helped when the majority of Sentai robos we've gotten in the last 10 years are so bulky in and blocky that they restrict movement for the suit actor. Leading to poor fight choreography. Doesn't help either that the Sentai robo is supposed to be the main action figure for kids to buy in terms of Sentai merch. And if the execution of how the robot fights is poorly done then no one will want it.
Save for a few early preview clips from Go-Busters (I never watched it) and that amazing mecha fight from the first episode of Ryuusolger, Sentai’s giant fights have always felt flat and stiff for me in terms of execution. Toei has always put their skill and craftsmanship into human-sized fights, to be sure, but they tend to come off as halfhearted when it comes to creating larger-scale effects.
Super Sentai seems to have just gotten more and more static in recent years. You get occasional cases where some real effort is put in, but for the most part they seem pretty lack lustre and (like a lot of Toei's stuff these days) are far too often overreliant on just throwing cgi at the screen with no really thought or finesse.
Oh boy..I really enjoy Ultraman Taiga but maaan,Sentai has really been failing for me and its still not doing for me when it comes to the story as well.
@raynaldo arlen k.eman And even more so,the side characters in Ultraman Taiga probably has the best episodes ever and the people around them like die. In Sentai,it's like when the day ends,it doesn't match up the consequences. Nothing ever happens significantly. Man,I miss the old days of Jetman and Dairanger tbh.
TOTALLY UNRELATED TO THE VIDEO BUT... Since kamen rider shows now a day have like 6 riders with multiple forms and more dire plots(even if badly written or too much shonen anime influenced) kinda eliminate the franchise´old limitation of a lone hero, I know its super common but day a day I ask myself¿isnt sentai kinda obsolete now a days? their matching suits are very limiting, their arsenal usually too, and even if zords are a unique factor...does anybody really cared about a single zord that much since train penis? Look if you want cool monsters and giant shit watch Ultraman, they are equally as corny and a ton more production effort(and budget because they doesn't have to share with their big brother kamen rider)
You're absolutely right. Sentai (a team show) is constantly on focused on 1-2 Rangers, with the others being completely pointless; compare that to Build and holy crap does everyone feel important. Toei needs to take a step back and rethink their Sentai strategy, it's just not bringing anything new to the table and has gotten boring and stale. No credits dance or fancy looking mechs can help that.

Nobody in TV Tokusatsu goes in on craftsmanship the same way that Tsuburaya goes in on craftsmanship.
The use of pratical effects is on another level compared to alot of toei's tokusatsu

Go-Busters had some pretty great mech scenes, better than most Sentai. The stuff they did with Ace and even the other vehicles were amazing to see

Especially in some Ultraman's fight they use real martial arts technic like Cosmos defensive fights.

I believed it was in episode 11,when Geed fights Pedanium Zetton while Laiha was fighting the alien on the building.
Mat Nasrin sounds right. Thank you.
The fights in Ultraman: MMGUBL are really good. Especially the fight Taro has with Belial

Superb video as always
I wonder if he stopped doing reviews cuz Toei and Power Rangers claim everything.
yeah but Tsuburaya doesn’t lmao they let you do what you want
May I make a suggestion ?
The Russian Wanderer go for it
Tsuburaya miniature and special effects have been getting better since Orb.
Also love the new mecha for Ryusolger it feel less bulky.
I think it got better with X,man the effect when he do the Xanadium Kousen is really cool
The main mech suit actor for ryusoulger was a newly minted because kusaka had retired last year prior to the show's production(maybe due to his age).
I think I will watch ultraman taiga.
Is there any consequences to their fights? Buildings have been blowing up left and right.
