🚨 UPDATE: Hey all! Just want to clarify I don’t hate the 35mm. Perhaps my phrasing was a bit off. What I meant was I’m way more used to the 24/50 and that 35mm is sometimes a struggle for me but I do enjoy it a lot! That’s why I’m very excited to see that Fuji sells an official 50mm TC - being able to have a 50 on hand makes it extra fun! I did address some of the downsides that the TC is a bit cumbersome. However, I’m not interested in getting an interchangeable lens Fuji, I already have Sony for that. The TC and WC are great additions for folks like me without investing in another whole system.
Regarding the in-camera crop digital conversion, correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think I can do that with video right? I also heavily use the X100VI for videos as well so the 50mm TC is very helpful in that regards! Hope this clears things up! Thanks for reading and watching!!

Jason, I think you could've just used the digital crop zoom on your camera to get that 50mm look without all the bulk added. You would still have plenty of MP to work with. I am more in favor of the wide converter because you can't digitally zoom wider than 35mm.

I didn’t get a chance to mention in the video since I was saving it for the next, but I also use the X100VI heavily for video. I don’t think I can use the digital crop zoom for that so having the 50 TC is very helpful!

  • @roscat_

I loved using it on my x100v but I had two issues with it:
    1. it started damaging the small bezel around the lens. Some of the black started coming off of it and I decided that this camera probably wasn’t meant to be screwing on and off as much as a I was with that lens.
    2. When you use the in body flash it casts a shadow. That was extremely annoying and I ended buying an external flash.
After coming to terms with these two issues I then decided to sell my x100v and opt for an interchangeable lens camera (X-T5).

    • @JasonVong

Thanks for the warning! That’s slightly disappointing to hear. I will keep an eye out.

This converter is border useless. You’d better use the crop mode of the camera. No it won’t change the bokeh at the same composition vs the crop. And since it will render slightly softer than the original lens, 40mp+slightly soft ~ 20mp cropped (might be a little better if stopped down).
The 28 converter is more useful, since it gives you something you can’t get with the original lens (wider fov).

I was interested in this camera, but after a bit of research I found quite a few gotchas that stopped me from getting one:

Outdated lens with loud/slow focusing (audible if recording video), cannot resolve 40MP wide open, 35mm (or lower quality 50mm) f/3 FF equivalent so no selfies or landscape or wildlife, a bit tight indoors, limited background separation in full body or even portrait, lower dynamic range than an iPhone 15Pro (tested by CINED), poor-ish low light performance, noisy sensor, no flip screen, poor battery life so you have to buy/bring spares (and potentially remove the tripod plate to swap each time), not great for videography (massive crop in 4k60 or 6.2k, awful rolling shutter, no 3.5mm mic input, ports block grip, drop in dynamic range in higher resolutions), subpar autofocus (improved but far from Sony/Canon), slow performance with film simulations, low resolution hybrid evf, no lens hood / ability to add filters / weather sealing / grip without additional costs, etc, etc.
It’s not for me but it is a very pretty camera :) - I had an X-T3 and X-S20 which I loved, but since trying Sony full frame (ZV-E1), there's no going back, the jump in quality, usability, convenience is immense.
