@@buffywasright Discovery, Ready to Roll, Tyrant Overthrown, Syzygy, Oneirophobia, etc. there’s plenty of amazing stuff in the lightfall ost. these are just my favorites
In my opinion, the single best piece of video game music ever created. Walking over that ridge and seeing the burning city with those deep thumping drums was absolutely epic and heartbreaking at the same time.
Like, I know I complained about losing everything we had, but to start the Destiny 2 campaign with this playing in the background, walking through the snow, having been dealt the biggest blow we ever had before. The music was freaking fire for the atmosphere.
What's really great about it is it's the entire campaign in one song; loss and despair, resolve, getting checked on our progress, big confrontation, triumph, rebuilding and returning, and a long note out for what's to come.
this ost still makes me tear up remembering the first time we heard it. We had just lost the city, our light, and the traveler. We had just found a fireteam dead in their sleeping bags, as they couldn't fight back without their light. This theme made the red war so much more impactful, my favorite destiny ost to this day and i have several thousand hours in the franchise.
This track plays during the "Adieu" mission from the Vaulted Red War campaign. The part where it really kicks up is when you turn a corner and see the Last City, the place that was your home for the past 4-5 years under seige and burning. It was perhaps one of the best set pieces in a game ive seen personally.
its the single moment of d2 y1 that I remember vividly, while half awake and just being blown away at how pretty the game was and how emotional this song makes the scene was just man I cant even describe it. than the res t of y1 happened and I was sad
It's crazy how many years it's been since I've played the red war, but I can remember every single footstep my guardian took as this song was playing. This song literally sums up the campaign in like 7 minutes. The loss, the despair, the hope the triumphs. Destiny's score has never ever ever missed.
Same here, funny story, our ghost at one point says ,guardian, if you die here, its over. While getting attacked by dogs and not willing to die at all, our house electricity gave out. I was so upset,
man i will never forget hearing this for the first time playing the campaign and just the quiet as i was hobbleing out of the tower after it was devisted..... Amazing writing, both in story and music!
Journey and the first mission of destiny 2 has a special place in my heart, I remember how emotional i was seeing the tower gets destroyed and dead guardians around the earth, i will never forget it 💔
The horns at 4:36 are the main Destiny 2 theme. :) They use that leitmotif in almost every major piece, and especially during the most epic fight scenes. It's basically the protagonist's theme.
Michael Salvatori has been with Bungie for a LONG time while working with Marty O Donnell on the Halo and Destiny 1 soundtracks. He always knocks it out of the park. You should listen to 'Rise of Iron' from Destiny 1 by Michael Salvatori!
This is a Skye Lewin track. Not a Michael Salvatori track. He's still amazing like you say though, he's written some phenomenal songs going all the way back to Myth. I just really dislike it when the others get their work attributed to Michael. People do it without realising. It's the same with Deep Stone Lullaby too lol.
I love that people are reacting to this one in particular. It was the main hook of the Red War for me, and the whole time this plays is just... apt. It's the best. I miss the Red War specifically for the journey portion, finding hope.
Interesting! Your analysis of the intro being that it was like the groups are stumbling over each other, when that was what was occurring in game at the time of being introduced to this track. Our character was stumbling out a collapsed burning city.
If theres anything Bungie/Destiny is one of the best in the business at its their music, would love to see you react to more of their tracks, some stand out ones are Deep stome Lullaby and Sepix Redux.
I am a MASSIVE Destiny fan. So much so that I have Destiny tattoos and custom hoodies. I can't express how much it excites my soul that someone out there appreciates the music as much as I do. I often just sit in the menu to properly be able to give the music the love it deserves. And as a cello and violin player...I have even more appreciation. Thank you for this reaction! ❤
When this played in the final mission when we were taking back the city and fighting along side with other players. It was my favorite mission because of this song and how it played out.
I have been playing Destiny since it first began, the music, 99% of the time, is outstanding, I am now 66 and still playing. The music captures the moment and the theme runs throughout.
Journey never fails to make me tear up. Absolutely beautiful song. Its a literal Journey. In game we lost our home, invaded and under siege, we lost our power. No more immortality, any death now would be final. We trudged our way out of the City, up the mountains and as we rounded the ridge we looked out over the horizon to see our home burn. But it was not the only thing burning. Rage and determination to regain our strength and hit back with power twelve fold our enemy's. This song embodies the Journey of getting knocked down but finding it in yourself to get back up and keep going even when all seems lost.
These songs hit one way when you're just listening to them, but when you're in these moments playing this game, headphones on fighting for the lives of everyone in the last city. These moments really resound and make the hero moments so pivotal to the player
As a huge destiny 1 player, I remember playing Destiny 2 at the midnight release. I was so excited I was shaking, and I had my closest friend online with me in voice chat doing the same thing. When I got to the section at the intro where you are standing on the mountain watching the Last City burn in the distance and the somber violin is playing, it was my single most emotional gaming moment ever. I cried.
Always love seeing other great personalities and professionals discovering and experiencing the power of Video Game music. Bungies music team never misses, ever. Definitely worth a listen to if you just want to get lost in emotion and soul.

God this brings back memories. The song steadily picking up as you crossed the corner to see the city burning in the distance as the music peaks, Bungie doesn't miss with the music.
Turning that corner in the ridge as the cabal ship flies by revealing the city and the drums kick in for me was the most emotional music has ever made me. The feeling of despair then the drums as the heartbeat of hope kicking in. The music team knows there shit for sure.
I heard the music before I played the game, started in crotas end d1 and havn't put it down since. At this point I hear it at work or while im relaxing at home, very well done.
this video was sort of randomly recommended for me (I'm a Destiny player) and I absolutely love your reaction to the music from this game and the composers. my favorite track, for some reason, has always been "The Vex" from the Destiny 1 soundtrack, but there are so many great pieces from this game. I've watched all the videos you've done reacting to Destiny's music, but this one is my favorite out of all of them.
You should check out "The Traveler" from the Destiny OST. It was the main "thematical" thesis for the first game's initial release's music language, and it was beautiful. Still invokes a frisson of excitement and wonder in me every time I hear it.
This song is about our guardian stumbling over his/her mortality into becoming more and more dedicated to stop the forces that invaded his/her home during a time of great loss and grief lost without his friend and his power. Than he/she rises in its commanding mortal form And the traveller looks on unbeknownst and says. You are my chosen here is my vision for you. Become legend. It is your destiny. beautiful track

Two things have always been true about Bungie, or at least for Halo and Destiny, idk much about Marathon, great gun play and even better music lol the "Sad City Song" (the beginning) as my friends and I called it back in the day, into the main title score brought back so many feelings of D2 launch.

We all go to different rhythms and melodies until we find a leader who organizes us. I think that is the message they want to give with this theme
