This song is especially touching since it is supposed a melody that represents the passing away of the physical body. A journey for a person that will be converted to an exomind (robot body), as they fall into a deep sleep only to wake up no longer human. That is why it is called the Deep Stone lullaby.
The moment of death is actually when the song builds and crescendos then goes silent (2:35), before coming back in with a bit more of a synth-y vibe than before, because they're an Exo now.
@@Jman2780 same here but we got to final stand many times just couldn’t deal enough to finish him off. Great experience regardless tho il forever regret not geting it beaten
I have this friend I've known for ten years. She's from Australia and I'm from the Caribbean. We played lots of Destiny 2 together when she got into it around Shadowkeep. It brought us closer together and I can proudly say that as of last year, she flew 20+ hours to come to see me and we got married and we played this at our wedding as she walked down the aisle.
Micheal Salvatori is amazing, and somehow bottled nostalgia into a song. This was amazing to hear for the first time in game too, my first raid clear was deep stone.
Okay here's the list: - Regicide - SIVA Swarm - Aksis boss theme - Dominus Ghaul - The Hunted - Riven of a Thousand Voices - Hidden Truth - Dethroned - The First Disciple - Oneirophobia (FULL Action)
The reason why I don't say "Eyes Up Guardian" or "The First Disciple" is because usually, the official OST cuts out parts from what is heard during the raid. Aksis fight can be heard in its entirety if you just look up "Aksis theme" versus "Eyes up guardian" in which there is a 50% chance it doesn't have the SIVA Density Critical motif and then you'd need to watch a whole second video just to hear it... who wants to do that? For Rhulk, as petty as it is, I don't prefer "The First Disciple" because it cuts out 4 measures right before DPS motif. Those 4 measures are sinister sounding, and I hope more people hear them. Not to mention the looping with the low brass that ties it back to the beginning of the theme. That's why I don't say First Disciple. Do I expect her to listen to these longer versions of the songs? No, but one could only hope 😁
This franchise has so many fantastic tracks. The Awoken, Bow to No One, Queen's Oracle, Eyes Up, Regicide, Riven of a Thousand Voices, and Last Array are all worth checking out.
So the story of this composition is a bit of a sad one too. It follows this race of sentient robots made from the human consciousness, named Exos. Exos were created initially as a way for their creator to essentially live forever but it involved numerous numerous test subjects and failures. The developers said that this piece in particular represents a human falling asleep, dreaming, and waking up as an Exo, with their humanity taken from them.
I honestly don't think I've ever been so invested in a game before due to the depth of the lore. Within the last year of the game we've had so many bomb drops in the story that COMPLETELY changes how we understood the world of the game going back almost 10 years to the original game. Along the lines of like...I dunno...Thanos turning out to be the good guy after all or something at the end of End Game, those kind of shocking twists you didn't see coming. It's just so good. Some of the seasonal stories are boring and some are just...why even bother wasting our time they're so generically written, but the major plot points are...oof. Hard to beat in any other game.
@@Dynasty1818Too bad that the only actual way to get that lore is by reading it in a website and not being and actual in game experience. Tbh it’s a good track but you need to experience it for the first time during the raid to truly appreciate it. After 12 hours of day 1 Atraks this felt so nice to hear for the first time
It was so crazy to me watching the world's first of "deep Stone crypt". Keeping an eye on all of the teams.....all of them in the middle of this competitive event to beat this raid. Seeing them at different times get to this portion of the raid and be immediately taken aback when they heard this for the first time. "Omg are we going on a space walk....? "....hell yeah!" '.....omg...... this is beautiful guys 🥺'
It’s a real testament to this composition that someone with technical knowledge can appreciate it without any knowledge of the game or the significance of the moment that accompanies this music
In the encounter before this plays, there's multiple copies of the boss spread around the room and with the timing of how the mechanics work you have to quickly rush the correct copy and destroy it before he causes a massive explosion that will kill everyone. The trick is that only one person can see which copy is the correct one so you have to coordinate teams within seconds. And that's in between the waves of enemies that you have to fight. It's loud and chaotic, outright frantic at times but when it's over you enter an airlock. When that outer door opens and you make your way out into space the sound drops out, almost silent. That's when this song starts and plays as you're making your way along the outside of a space station above Europa. There's absolutely nothing else like it.
Only if youv tried this encounter on contest will you know how truly chaotic this was. Especially before we had lament and cuirtass thunder crash. Best dps was falling guilitine. Couldn’t one phase this boss either so you had to pass it up down up down then final stand was like 3-4 kills till you could take her down. I was scanner for it and the pressure of final stands was real. We actually used a strat I feel not many did where I’d stay middle to find the clone and call it out unless it was one of the closer ones. This playing after 12 hours felt unreal and like we had truly acceded into a space station
one of the best memories I have is just waiting for my friend in orbit (the load screen of the game), looking at my spaceship and the space behind it, while this melody plays in the background
This song always reminds me of the time I was still living at home, and taking care of my dad who will ill. Playing Destiny Beyond Light late at night when I had free time, the expansion involving a father scenario, winter time - He passed away less than a year later and I can't listen to this song without tearing up
I’d love to see you react to this (or other music) standalone AS WELL AS in context to what’s occurring in the game. I think this is far more impactful in the empty expanse of space with a new, menacing monologue coming at you.
It’s definitely one that you have to experience. You’ve just come out of a boss fight that’s chaotic and frantic. The world opens up and you’re out in space with the planet below traversing a space station. It’s the perfect decompression and allows you to centre before getting back into it. You should certainly play the accompanying video. It’d serve you so much better in terms of context. Do you or have you played Destiny? It’d be great to see your reaction in game
It blows my mind how a well written piece of music can completely immerse you in an experience. Without music like this games and films would feel so hollow like idk it's just wild
This piece will ALWAYS live with me in a special place in my heart and soul. The first time I did The Deep Stone Crypt, it was day one on contest mode. And we had just spent TWELVE, I repeat TWELVE HOURS on Atraks. We were 14 hours in and the way the sounds were muted and the music just dominated our ears with a god damn cathartic and serene space-walk. I reached the end of the walk and was waiting at the door for my allies and the next thing I knew there were tears POURING out of my eyes and I just broke down. I don’t even quite know why. One of my fireteam spoke up after almost 10 minutes of silence and asked if I was crying too. I just remember thinking how much I loved this game and how I’d never trade that moment for a million years. Deep Stone Lullaby is to me, up there as one of the single greatest pieces of music ever written because of THAT. EXACT. MOMENT. Guess that just shows that context and experience are as important as the music itself.

We really just forgot about “Regicide”? That track is such a banger and it goes way too hard, especially when you pair it with the boss fight that it comes from
There's too many to count. First Disciple and Oneirophobia are fantastic raid boss tracks. The first demonstrates the conflict between light and dark really well - the text before the boss fight simply states "DROWN DROWN DROWN" and the music is the dominated by the darkness theme, with the light motif being drowned out at the end of every damage phase. Oneirophobia, in contrast, shows the merging of light and dark, reflecting the traits of the boss we are fighting, as well as various other themes the boss associates to in some way, such as the Cabal Stomp, and the Neomuna theme. Those two are perhaps my favourite tracks in the game so far.
my team spent six hours on the boss right before this part on day one. six. fucking. hours. of bashing our heads against the wall. we finally managed to just squeeze in the kill before we wiped. we were exhausted, had no idea what the rest of the raid was going to be like if atraks was THAT rough. and then we exit the airlock, and this starts playing. not a word was spoken the entire time, even as we failed the jumps and got mowed down by enemies as we made our way across the spacewalk. not a word. to say we needed that break is a gross understatement. deep stone lullaby will forever hold a special place in my heart now.
The best way to describe how that high end keys sound is done is by taking the piano, putting a reverb on it and at the point of attack, turn on freeze creating that sustain you're hearing. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails did something similar for Hurt with strings.

So if I hang out in a random area, such as the spot where this music plays, it can loop indefinitely. Day one of every new raid there is a race to see who can finish it first the raid even has a special contest mode modifier on day one to make it harder this song literally stopped teams in their tracks, teams in the middle of day one race stopped to listen to this song
This song is especially touching since it is supposed a melody that represents the passing away of the physical body. A journey for a person that will be converted to an exomind (robot body), as they fall into a deep sleep only to wake up no longer human.

I think Destiny 2's music peaked here and there's not been anything near this good since.
Day one of every new raid there is a race to see who can finish it first the raid even has a special contest mode modifier on day one to make it harder this song literally stopped teams in their tracks, teams in the middle of day one race stopped to listen to this song
Lol em young music everywhere except Twitch, where she is “goodbye kneecaps” 😂😂
it stuck over there, what can i say lmao
We all mute in discord during this
No matter what group you join random ppl or not you stay off coms during this part of the raid
