    This butyl rubber is also known as a Windshield Kit that was used on older vehicles to hold the windshield in. You can purchase this at most auto parts stores. Just ask for a windshield kit.

      @OtherDalfite 4 года назад

      Agreed. I used to work at advance Auto parts and we sold this stuff as a windshield seal kit

    Can I use Grey Butyl Caulk instead of Butyl Rubber Strips? Reason is, I need it in grey, not black.

    What's better for glass projector headlight, any good led kit or hid?

  • @hrcivic
    @hrcivic 4 года назад +2

    Hi. Great video.. I have a question : do we need to clean the "glass" around from its original glue before assembly the two parts?

    • @RetrofitSource
      @RetrofitSource  4 года назад +2

      This is highly debated. Some people prefer to clean the original glue completely before reassembly, Others simply install fresh butyl over the old stuff. It’s a case by case basis I’d say!

      @hrcivic 4 года назад

      @@RetrofitSource thanks for the answer. I'm thinking about not removing anything and putting the new glue only around the cover above the old glue. The other part of the glue on the headlight i pressed it with a screwdriver.. I hope it will fit to close. Will it close?

    Can you use silicon sealant to glue the headlight/ headlamp ?? Butyl glue is expensive here and i don't need that much

    • @RetrofitSource
      @RetrofitSource  5 лет назад

      We would not suggest it due to the gas it can release, and its not as effective. The butyl is cheap, at $17 for a roll...thats very reasonable to avoid the aggravations of doing it wrong. www.theretrofitsource.com/morimoto-retrorubber-butyl-glue-51999.html

    Sorry did you say 7 minutes long at 270f or 70 minutes at 270f?
    Also, does the adhesive only come in strips or can you use something else like?

    • @pinoy3kenny
      @pinoy3kenny 8 лет назад

      If you opened your own headlights, it'd be 7 minutes long, he mentioned the same amount as when you opened them. So, 7 minutes at 270*f

    Anyone thinking about reusing the old glue don’t do it. Just pay for new glue it’s worth it. I’m sitting here opening my headlight for the third time because I reused the glue and kept getting leaks. Also if you had water in your lights remember to dry out the little piece of foam in there or they’ll fog right up again

    • @RetrofitSource
      @RetrofitSource  5 лет назад

      Good information! Generally speaking, you can re-use the glue, but you do need to add some more to keep things water-tight!

    only one headlight got moisture creeping in. I did a amber delete mod.
    I heard to re-seal it with caulk on top of the black stuff. worked fine on the right headlight.
    but not on the left. I see no openings or anything, yet moisture magically comes into the headlight.
    They’re reflectors and i plan to upgrade to projector if its not a hack job. was told plug and play

    Can a heat gun be used instead of an oven?

    • @TheKingOfHalo
      @TheKingOfHalo 7 лет назад +2

      I used a heat gun to open my fog lights but they're glass so I wasn't worried about melting the lens. A heat gun can melt the plastic lens if you keep it on a certain spot for too long, so make sure to go in a circle pattern and keep the heat gun moving if you use one. I'm retrofitting some mini 7.0's this weekend but I'll be using the oven for my headlights since they're plastic.
