    Mine took about 1 and a half hours of beating to get loose. Even though I sprayed it once a few days ago and during the job, I still had to beat on it by holding a 45 degree pry bar to the bottom of the U-joint and hitting the end of the pry bar with a sledge hammer. Did this technique on several different angles for 1 and a half hours and the U-joint slowly slid up off the splines.

    If the bolt is on the opposite side, what’s your advice to get it loose? Upon replacement, does the bolt have to go the same way or can I screw it back like shown in the video

    Is the bolt metric, and what size is it?

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  2 года назад

      This one should be a 12 mm. The most common sizes on this vehicle were 10mm, 12mm, & 14mm in general.

    I have a 2006 nissan murano. I started felling a slight clunk in the steering a month ago when I turned left. Last week the steering started like skipping gears or the splines. I can't find anything loose. Is this going to be a rack and pinion issue?
    Great video, do more.

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  2 года назад

      I wish I still had the car, but it blew a head gasket and the trans was on its way out around 120k miles. It could very well be the steering rack. Though, there are a couple connections on the steering shaft I may not have shown plus the steering wheel itself.

    I cannot get that top part to swing out of the way it's driving me crazy. The bolt and nut is off it's loose it moves back and forth but it will not swing out of the way what should I do

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  2 года назад

      You might haver to push or pull up on it as there is a groove it sets down into. Sometimes, if the bolt was over tightened, it can pinch it in there making it necessary to pry the two tabs further apart that the bolt slips through

    Great video and unfortunately watching it because I have the same problem. An earlier problem was transmission acting up. A$50 transmission rotation sensor made it as new again and I changed the fluid for good measure. Over a year ago and still going strong.

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  2 года назад

      This transmission was going bad.... when cold it would slam from first to second shift..... changed fluid, motor, and transmission mounts helped some. Though it had a lurking problem that reared its ugly head a year after this video with a bad headgasket.

    Hello my good friend, great video. I tried this today, I have a 05 Altima. I got to the part where the spline is to come off the alignment match. I've tried knocking the lower shaft off with a metal mallet and long file. I can't get it off. I've been hitting hard but with out a hosit its hard.
    I've soaked the spline and see oil dripping out the bottom. Been trying for 4 hrs.......
    It looked like yours slid right off.

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  4 года назад

      It is a bear without a lift. I smacked it as hard as I could but you still gotta be careful of the steering rack. Some come easier than others I do know. Sometimes I have had to open up the split after I take the bolt out, but be carefull as there is a plastic locator tab that you dont want to break off if you can help it. Once it comes loose it should work off. Do you have it disconnected inside the car so it can move? and make sure the steering wheen is tied so it does not move, otherwise you will damage your airbag clock spring, column wiring, and wont have a straight wheen when you put it back together.

      @@More350Power Thanks very much for your reply, you're a good guy.
      I followed your video in sequence. I did have the boot cover clamp and the bolt from the top of the lower steering shaft removed. The pinch bolt from the bottom of the lower steering shaft came out with care and i was able to separate the spline "gapping it" with out damaging the alignment match. I'm gonna go to my brother in laws farm and try to get my car up higher on jacks I only had about a 8" space under the car for a foot pound swing. I only had the one side up on a jack, that would make a difference, right?
      Last question, did you take out the 3 bolts on the boot shoe that are under the carpet and on the fire wall to get the old steering shaft out? I know some videos show that. I noted you started to say "there are a few ways......" and then the clip stopped and the next video started.
      Regards;
      Nigel

      @@reel_images I had both sides up in the front of the vehicle. I did not have much swing room, but just enough. I didnt take the bolts out . Once the shaft came loose and pushed up into the drivers compartment, I pulled and wiggled it out from the inside of the car. You can also take it out from outside the car by lifting off the splines then pulling it down out of the car ( if you have the space), and you can take the bolts out to give you more room to get the shaft out. Mine was so badly worn and loose I could make it go any direction I wanted. Thank you for the kind words Nigel, keep me posted on how it goes!

      @@More350Power Thanks very much for all the help, I finally got it off today, the second attempt went better then the first, still took 2.5hrs. We got it up high on jacks and then went under, we had long screw drivers for farm machinery. Still didn't help. Unfortunately with using so much oil it unbind-ed the plastic cap with the locator tap even before we got the lower steering shaft off.
      We used a long farm screw driver to spread open where the spline is. Literally slid off after that. The hassle was now finding where the centre steering was on the spline off the rack. Took 3 tries then got it. Was unfortunate as we had to put everything back together and test drive it each time.
      Again with out you posting this video I couldn't have done it.

    Maybe that's why the Ford Taurus GL steering wheel is badly missalined drove that car around like that for years it really bad driving it around cause you never know what way tires are pointing lmao 😂 😂 😂 us country boys will drive anywhere in anything in any condition as long as it starts and gets us down the road 😂

    • @More350Power

      It is totally possible. Some people go by the theory, drive until you hit something then you know you were going the wrong way lmao...... Though it sounds like you got bad alignment and possibly a worn steering box as I dont think the Taurus had rack and pinion then.... I could be wrong..
