Is it possible to get the clunking in the steering shaft from just braking hard from highway speeds? And I know for a fact it's not my actual brakes of calipers or rods.
My 86 Celebrity CL was very hard to steer suddenly, then mid turn it quit completely. The steering wheel would spin freely with no response from the wheels. Could the steering shaft be broken?
Dear speedkar99: would you please explain why CV(constant velocity) type joint is never used in a steering shaft? Wouldn't it offer better precision and durability over the lowly universal joint? Just wondering...thank you in advance sir!
Hey sir I have a weird squeaky noise coming what I believe is the steering rack, it happens only at certain speeds while driving straight and it also seems like the colder the weather the more it squeakys. Could replacing this part in the video help?
I'm wondering if I can just replace the steering column at that knuckle that is underneath the dash, undo that bolt and Pull out the steering wheel and put the new one in if all that's wrong on mine is the turn signal pieces, Plus the new steering wheel doesn't have cruise control but I want to keep my cruise control
I replaced my power steering pump on my 99 corolla because my steering was so stiff and my steering wheel is still stiff, could replacing this shaft help lighten my steering?!?!
Making it look easy but tight spot, so far this girls escape, had the driver seat removed, and the steering wheel and shaft and dash and the steering shaft won't fit in the knuckle, and is stuck, the replacement part is stuck, won't go

Good information... as I've never seen a worn out steering shaft 👍
Toyotas were notorious for them wearing down or causing noise

Hello I just did my 2006 Malibu steering shaft yesterday

No
😂I wondered whether I could handle the repair myself when my mechanic quoted me $400.
You can
Is it possible to get the clunking in the steering shaft from just braking hard from highway speeds? And I know for a fact it's not my actual brakes of calipers or rods.
Why did you replace it? Was it clicking or making noise?
Excellent video as usual
Another beauty, thanks.
Welcome
Was the intermediate shaft also marked to match up with the slit in the steering column in the same way as done with the rack?
It should be. Or at least make sure the wheels and steering wheel are straight
@@speedkar99 Thank you, captain.
Hi,
When setting the steering wheel straight do you have the keys in the ignition so you don't break the clockspring or is the steering wheel locked ?
My 86 Celebrity CL was very hard to steer suddenly, then mid turn it quit completely. The steering wheel would spin freely with no response from the wheels. Could the steering shaft be broken?
Awesome Video 👌
Thanks!
Excellent video
Dear speedkar99: would you please explain why CV(constant velocity) type joint is never used in a steering shaft? Wouldn't it offer better precision and durability over the lowly universal joint? Just wondering...thank you in advance sir!
Cost.
CV is more expensive and it's extreme articulation isn't required for a steering shaft.
Dear@@speedkar99: That does make a lot of sense, very much appreciated sir!
Hey sir I have a weird squeaky noise coming what I believe is the steering rack, it happens only at certain speeds while driving straight and it also seems like the colder the weather the more it squeakys. Could replacing this part in the video help?
Squeaking while driving straight doesn't sound like a steering issue. Check your sway bar bushings

Yes
The link to file.seekpart.com is not working as of 1/12/2020.
Do potholes affect this ? When I drive over broken road surface, the steering wheel shimmy by itself.
Bump steer
Left and Right, Left and Right, and now the steering is changed!
Lol that's not good for the clock spring
Does this apply to all cars. I actually wanted to reset my e36 BMW steering
Reset electric steering?
Or restore the smoothness in the shaft?
@@speedkar99 I met to say, the driver steering. Mine was turned upside down when I had issue with the shaft right before the rack
thank you!
Will this part work 4 a 09 malibu?😅
Is that a yes 🤔 or is someone woundering the same.
Can you change just the u joint? Not the whole shaft
Can the u joint be replaced instead of the shaft? I have an 04 Acura MDX with heavy knocking when turning left. Thanks ?
i asked the same question when I went to replace the shaft on my sienna. Unfortunately it's all one welded piece, not sure about the MDX.
What if its so seized at the rack that 4 hours of banging the pry bar and hammer, plus penetrant, doesnt work???
What lubricant did you use on the steering column?
😂 “My Wife’s something here” 😂

Omg looking for Mitsubishi only why does iTunes think that when typed in they offer everything else BUT...
Where can I get this spare part in Kenya and what is the cost. Please share your contacts

I replaced my power steering pump on my 99 corolla because my steering was so stiff and my steering wheel is still stiff, could replacing this shaft help lighten my steering?!?!
If it binds or clunks yes. If it's consistently stiff look into bleeding the power steering system.
now you steal something from your wife, next time steal something from your neighbor
You never want to mess with your neighbors
About to do this on a 05 liberty 😢
How often would a steering shaft need to be replaced?
Only if it fails. Several Toyota models fail often though, like the Sienna

Lock it in the straight ahead position. Not sure why he didn’t include that
