Speaks volumes about how human emotions and storytelling is universal and the limitations of a language barrier can only restrict so much. What I read about Gangubai was she had a strained relationship with beaurocrats, as she stood against corruption and oppression, which eventually landed her fraternity in trouble. After which she reached out to an underworld Don, whom she tied rakhi(sisters tie rakhi on brother's wrist, brothers in lieu promise to safeguard their sisters, is a tradition in India). But Gangubai was never a politician, though she might have contested local elections. All her life she struggled to bring about a change in public belief towards the third world community. She was also progressive to make donations for social cause, an unusual thing herself being a hooker

I wanted this to be more grounded too, less actually. But loving the actor choices like Vijay raaz, Alia bhatt, ajay devgan and the production design is great. I don’t think this is a well put trailer, it’s showing all the over the top parts but I hope the movie has more grounded parts.

Padmaavat was his weakest movie as far as story, plot and acting by the leads is concerned. Deepika was wooden and glassy-eyed and Shahid was stiff. Ranveer had kept the accent from Bajirao while copying Khal Drogo's mannerisms.

You know what! For the first time, I am happy with the trailer because it does not give away the whole point of the film. I would too, love to see her struggles, but that is what you will see in the movie. Loved every bit of this, and I am sure to have a hell of a ride in the theatres!

Damn Alia bhatt is truly a gem her performance is incredible. She would have got much more love and respect if she was not born in a rich celebrity family, feel sorry for that although most of the hate was manufactured hate but still. Sanjay Leela Bhansali movies are always so cinematic and colourful and with poetic dialogues they make the experience magical when watched in the theaters. Jaby thinks someone like gangubai can not be a politician 😂someone tell this man most of the politicians are criminals or mass murderers in India infact a terror accused who is out on bail is a member of parliament in India 😅 why do you think India is a third world country and I would suggest watch the movie first don't directly jump into love angles. also there was a scene in the trailer where they show how she looks helpless when some other lady is dressing her up and positioning her in the street for the job. In India the girls don't do prostitution willingly they are all victims of human trafficking which is still not changed although there could be exceptions. India has always been one of the worst places to live for a woman this film might showcase the tragic story of Gangubai as it is based on real story there is a documentary on her she was tricked and sold at the age of 15 also the people at the age of 15 in India look like 10 year olds of United States the body and mind is not that mature.

The " struggles " she faced : prostitues are looked down apon , the madams abuse them and put them to work for many hrs , they are repeatedly abused and raped , their kids don't get good education ..., all these are depicted in the trailer , she faces all of them with soo much of courage , the fact that she contests and becomes president of kamathipura ( which is still unthinkable in USA as Jaby says ) speaks volumes , she fights for the rights of prostitutes and their children , it reflected in the last sentence , "write that I have not lowered my eyes , but put my head up and asked for my rights "
The characters are based on real life. Gangubai (played by Alia) rose to prominence with support of then dreaded gangster Kareem Lala (played by Ajay Devgn). In real life too Gangubai and Kareem Lala had significant age difference, hence the casting.

I dont know what will happen if jaby will decide to review give reaction alone without any smarter intelligent people around him. he always get it wrongly. here he was not sure whether she is belongs to oppressed section of the society and trying to uplift of that section. The part where she is asked to give fathers name for the children she was trying to admit to the school was where she was being looked down upon and the father's name which she did give 'Dev Anand' was like the god-tier actor of those times.

I was really looking forward to her reaction to the movie for her instinctual, intuitive understanding of the film Also, Jaby, the struggle in the film is violence and women's/children's rights although the trailer focused more on victory and strength - whoever made the trailer probably did that to make the topic more palatable and to entice audiences to watch, rather than showing the heavier, sad, dark stuff (which is also important) as it probably won't make the public at large want to watch, over a comedy or action or something. Because this is basically made by a blockbuster director, it's harder to sensationalise a potentially traumatic topic, so the trailer included the more upbeat moment.

Alia bhatt was really good but she didn't captivate me like it should.There is something missing.The trailer looked too polished.. I wanted it more like ramleela... Where it was stunning but rough. The trailer was stunning but it didn't do anything for me. Alia bhatt was really good but she didn't captivate me like it should.There is something missing.The trailer looked too polished.. I wanted it more like ramleela... Where it was stunning but rough. I like the concept. But I think trailer let me down.
